Christina Aguilera - AGUILERA

Beautiful is still a 10 to me. It's so easy to feel cynical about popstar empowerment anthems nowadays and probably for good reason, but Beautiful was before all of that (ahead of its time, one might say). It feels genuine and moving and real.

As for this anniversary edition, the bar is literally on the floor and they couldn't even meet it. Obviously it's great to have I Will Be on streaming but you'd think they would've padded this out with more than just... 2 songs. Dame Lo Que Yo Te Doy, Dirrty solo version, Car Wash, a live performance of Beautiful, a few more remixes, anything more than just 2 songs!

I'm afraid that maybe there is a feeling that it wouldn't be worth the time and money anymore because her profile isn't that big as a musical act anymore.

There are other songs recorded for the album they could've dusted off - Miss Independent, for one. They could've been looking at Taylor's "From the Vault" success to lead the way. But I just feel like no one really wanted to sink money into it. Honestly, as previously discussed, the photoshoot for Stripped is so iconic I would've bought a coffee table book of it.

Although I guess it will get her some extra streams doing nothing would have been better than this

I thought Beautiful was trite and very "obligatory big pop girl inspirational anthem single" even back then, a somewhat popular opinion given the relative insuccess of "Dirrty" and the various parodies made at the time. I also thought the original video was rather corny...

That said, it still is - somewhat contradictorily - a lil behemoth of a song.

There must have been a handful of songs from the vault they could have added to this. It's a shame we don't have more unreleased material from the era.

My relationship with “Beautiful” has always been an odd one. Like @Leopold , I thought it was the “obligatory ballad” and I found it dull (especially after “Dirrty”) and my middle-school ass was already out by then so it was annoying having “Beautiful” come up in discussion and people automatically thinking I loved the song because of that (which happened again once fucking Mean Girls came out).

I’ll never call it a “bad” or “trite” song, it’s lovely. I can’t imagine any other Popstar but Xtina releasing this both at the time and in retrospect (sucks to suck, P!nk). She sells the song with such an earnest delivery that I fully believe her. And in the times I really sit with the song, it gets to me (especially as I get older). Never going to be one of my favorite Xtina songs but I’m so glad it exists.

Ah I do see that the rerelease has the Dolby Atmos flag - will take a listen later. Anyone heard it yet? Any good?

The technology is cool but is still quite hit or miss for me...
