Zzzz. My revenge for y'all tanking Jonathan is getting to eliminate Second 2 None directly afterwards yas. Mura Masa's album, despite an impressive roster of guest spots, continues to leave me completely cold and Second 2 None is no different. The best thing about the album for me was actually the cute promo campaign. He broadcast a live stream on his social media accounts where billboards simultaneously appeared in the home cities of each of the guest stars announcing the album. So in Nantes:
Mura Masa had been chasing after a Chris collaboration for some time when one day shortly before he was due to hand the album in to his record company, she replied to his e-mail saying she was in London and available. Finding her at work in the studio, she had already crafted the skeleton of the song using a looped sample he had sent to her previously. According to an NPR interview with Mura Masa, Chris recorded her vocal for the song in one take, only needing to add additional harmonies on subsequent takes, "the way she elongates syllables, the way she winds down from note to note, it's such a romantic attitude. It's this thing she can't help, which is that she's just so quintessentially French."
Second 2 None was released as a double single along with Blu featuring Damon Albarn. A fun fact: Early sessions for Chris' second album took place with Damon and Mark Ronson and while she was complimentary in an interview with The Guardian about Mark, her silence regarding Damon spoke volumes. All she would divulge was that, "it didn’t really work out."
"Chris and Mura Masa is a match made in heaven." - @Aidan
"Christine emote beautifully!" - @berserkboi
"I’ve never really ~got~ Mura Masa but this is pretty cool." - @constantino
"A very beautiful beat, but I don’t think Christine shines enough on it until the modulated breakdown part. Needs a little more energy." - @Michael17
