Managed to get a hold of the early pilot script.

The pilot script is really strong.

You instantly root for Jake through the pilot and care for the character as opposed to the previous four movies where the lead were either underwritten or merely plot points to push forward the Doll narratives.

The introduction of him having a mental illness is also an interesting twist and hopefully is used in the series to have Jake questioning reality. That element with a killer doll could be milked to good effect.

The supporting characters are a tad thin but benefit from the Classic Horror Trope of being cliches in the genre (Bitchy Queen Bee, Overacheiving Jock, Earnest DoGooder, Jaded School Teacher) so you kinda already fill in the blanks around them. The exception is Jakes father. The dynamic and scenes with them in the pilot can be quite tense yet enthralling.

The early development and scenes between Jake and his love interest Devon are also quite sweet and I can see promising things from the character of Devon.

The set up between Jake and Chucky is also quite a unique development and is not where you would think the series would go.

The script is also quite Queer without being Camp. (For the most part). Chucky is played mostly in a ‘Is the doll really alive’ style for most of the pilot until he reveals himself towards the end and is amusingly #GayRights. Saying that, Jake seems to be the smartest in the series so far both in his discovery and reaction to the ‘Is the Doll alive?’ mystery.

A lot of interesting character dynamics within Jakes universe including with two characters where you can already see how the plot points could unravel into some juicy, tense stuff!

There is also a ‘Mysterious phone call’ between Jake and a ‘young man’ under the pretence that he wants to buy Chucky only to warn him not to trust the doll. Perhaps this is a new character but my gut is telling me it’s Glen.

The only thing setting off alarm bells in the script is the flashbacks to Chuckys childhood giving a slight Rob Zombies ‘Halloween’ tingle *Kill Bill siren activates*

It reads much better than ‘Curse’ and ‘Cult’, (The fact that the scenes from the trailer alone seem to have more of a budget than the entirety of ‘Curse’ and ‘Cult’ combined certainly doesn’t hurt matters) and the comments of them wanting to go back to the feel and vibe of ‘Child Play 2’ seem spot on.

Also The implications from the final few scenes? Yaaas!

Gimme that ‘Heathers’/‘Emily Thorne’ style Queer Horror High School Revenge fantasy Don Daddy!

Is Jesse Wallace’s Horror Queer crown safe or is Jake Wheeler about to upsurge him as the premiere Slasher phaguette?

I never thought they ever recaptured the very first films vibe. The freshness of the premise and the mother finding out he had no batteries scene...

It then just turned into a comedy and more ridiculous with each subsequent release.

He/They
Child's Play (1988) has a great slightly gritty atmosphere to it, especially that first half, and Chris Sarandon (hunk) and Catherine Hicks make a great doll fighting pair.
The second one is alright, Bride Of is superb, and I haven't seen the rest.
I best get up to date before the series as it looks good.

The ‘No Batteries’ gag is one of THE moments in Horror for me. Yes it’s not in the same leagues as ‘Michael Myers getting shot six times and Loomis peering down at nothing but flattened grass’ but it is still a MOMENT!

I rank ‘2’, ‘Bride’ and the Original as the essential trilogy (in that order). The rest of the series is enjoyable and have their moments but they’re not essential.

And even though ‘Seed Of Chucky’ is TRASH, I do love my little gender confused pacifist/Homocidal Queer Legend Glen(da)!

Alleged Episode titles.

The source is Spoilertv.com who I’m pretty sure are quite legit with this kinda stuff.

Not really used that site since my ‘Dollhouse’ days.

I read the pilot script. It sounds like Chucky is going to become a gay ally. The boy is obviously based on creator Don Mancini who's gay. Can't wait to see Alex Vincent and Christine Elise again!! I wish they'd bring back Andy's mother, Catherine Hicks.

Catherine Hicks as far as I know is at least open to the idea. She attended a convention a couple years ago and seemed to have a great time. She was there with Alex Vincent, her husband which she met on the set of the first Child's Play and they've been married for many years. Brad Dourif and Fiona were also at the panel. As was Christine Elise, and of course Don Mancini as well.

So I wouldn't rule out an appearance from Catherine Hicks or at the very least a cameo. She's really embraced the fandom over the years despite not wanting anything do to with it for a long time. That's why she didn't return for the sequel.

I saw an interview with Don a couple of years back and he didn't know why Catherine didn't return but had to basically guess. He said that her husband also worked on the sequel. I can understand her apprehension about doing another one at the time. I do hope she one day returns to the franchise. It would be great to see Andy's mom getting revenge. I wonder what season 2 of the show will be like, if it does indeed get a second season.

I love that Chucky is on Twitter now.
