COMPLETE GARBAGE: The Discography Rate (WINNER!)

Agreed. April Tenth and Beloved Freak have GOT to go. Very very sad about Kick My Ass. This is still a radio staple here in Madison, and it wasn't until recently that I learned that it wasn't actually ever a single, flop fan. The chorus is so cathartic and it features one of Shirley's best ever vocals. Probably my favorite cover of theirs as well.

In totally unrelated news, my rugby team is doing a drag night fundraiser in November. My friend who is a big burly bear is going to do a Garbage song. His drag name? Surly Manson.

Garbage b sides on the radio? I'm quivering at the idea.

You're welcome for giving you a reason to use that awesome gif. I'm sure it won't be the last time we see it in this thread. ICONIC.

Garbage is actually my favorite band of all time. I've seen them countless times and actually got to meet them during the 20 yrs Queer Tour so I'm not worried about my stan card being revoked.

That being said SLB was polarizing among fans and so I'm certainly not alone in giving it the mediocre scores it deserves. You're obviously on the other side of that fence but as far as taste is concerned, that still doesn't justify you giving Sometimes a 10.

This was the ONE video I recorded that came out right, for some reason the acoustics and lighting in that venue didn't overwhelm my digital camera, and I caught Shirley on a tender moment where her voice breaks talking about Vic. Out of all the songs on the 20 Years Queer tour I would have never forgive myself for missing if I hadn't made a show, this was the one.

Recap #5

86. Show Me - 9 - The Bonus tracks from this album were done so wrong! The 1:45 mark, enough said.

86. Untouchable - 8 - The opening sounds like a lost No Doubt/Gwen song or something, I was instantly hooked to this kind of poppy production being on one of their songs, but the stuttered thing going on the chorus fought with me. Eventually I won and decided I could get past it and use this track.

85. Trip My Wire - 6 - I hear the argument for it being on their album with its sound, but it would become one of the small handful of 'meh' tracks that are on that album.

84. Not Your Kind of People - 6 - Yes it's kind of catchy, but it also becomes kind of annoying in a way that "It's a Small World After All" does. A bit of a nursery-rhyme melody but ultimately harmless. I kind of wanted to like it more, but eventually just said "nah." I can imagine the horror though if it were on my favorite video game.

83. Driving Lesson - 4 - Yikes, how was this not one of the first songs out? That breathy "caaaaaar" was an instant hard pass. Should've given this like a 2.

82. Man On a Wire - 5 - Well if we're continuing to cut the worst from this album, I'll allow it. They can keep that guitar riff, it's like nails on a chalk board. The chorus is doing okay and saves it from being a disaster though.

81. Kick My Ass - 5 - One of those "I couldn't tell you one thing about it" five minutes later songs.

80. Til the Day I Die - 6 - Today was a good day, as we lose one of my least favorites on beautifulgarbage. I think that turn-table part that keeps poppin up was what made me resist liking this one more.Otherwise, it's kind of a non-event.

I mean, they're also my favorite band, I've been following them for more than a decade and I have also seen them live more than once and met them but whip out that stan dick, I guess!

I just think they don't have a wholly bad album. Even Bleed Like Me, my personal least favorite, is pretty solid.

The reason that Till The Day I Die sounds quite like a b-side is likely because, along with Silence Is Golden (ick), it was recorded as a new track for the planned-then-shelved b-side album circa 2000. Gaithersburg band became inspired, then ended up recording a whole new studio album instead, which eventually became Beautifulgarbage.

I knew about that B-sides album but didn't know tht those were the tracks that were meant to be on it. Was it just those two tracks that ended up on Beautiful Garbage?

I believe so, although I'm not 100% sure. They're the two Shirley mentioned in her online studio diary she was doing at the time.

Silence is Golden was finished and performed live before the end of the Version 2.0 tour. Til the Day I Die wasnt finished, and was reworked a lot once they decided to dump the B-sides album plans. Silence is Golden mostly stayed the same aside from a few changes in the length, a new bassline in the outro and the final mix.

You're definitely correct, all great albums but you know I tend to grade these rates on a curve since we're only rating them against themselves. Otherwise I'd end up giving them nothing lower than an 8. Good god if I didn't grade on a curve a CRJ rate would be all 10's.

I'm surprised people don't like Bleed Like Me more. It was considered their big comeback and personally is my 3rd fav behind Garbage and Version 2.0.

My personal Garbage albums rank:
1. Version 2.0
2. Garbage
3. Bleed Like Me
4. Not Your Kind Of People
5. BeautifulGarbage
6. Strange Little Birds
