Soooooo, I was gonna post both of the songs at once but I decided that was too much work so you'll get the one with the fewest 10s first...even though it got the most 11s (I went back and forth...a LOT). Fun fact: this got the same number of 11s as the winning song, the joint highest in the rate! Talent! Honestly, this is in my personal top 3 but I'm glad it made the top 5[/6], especially since it was runner-up for my 11 (which is still in!). Even though I can't exactly say this was 'done wrong' a measly 5 is inexcusable @Cassava, so by all means, get her!

This...is just transcendent. I remember hearing it for the first time (after it leaked like a whole month ahead of schedule lolol) and being genuinely emotional seeing how far Lana had come. This is a poised, powerful and flawlessly-executed realisation of Lana's brand, which she had been struggling with slightly in her last couple of projects. Love is hardly a reinvention of 'Lana Del Rey', but she definitely felt renewed and refreshed coming into the Lust For Life era - with the video being a total MOMENT, especially with those stunning vintage cinematic posters they put out...you know...before it leaked ddd. As big a deal as it was at the time, the song leaking early didn't really diminish the impact of the song and the incredible video in any way, I mean...she SMILED!! She'll always have that. We'll always have that.

In an interview with Courtney Love for Dazed magazine, Lana talked about writing the song and said: "I’m glad it’s the first thing out. It doesn’t sound that retro, but I was listening to a lot of Shangri-Las and wanted to go back to a bigger, more mid-tempo, single-y sound. The last 16 months, things were kind of crazy in the US, and in London when I was there. I was just feeling like I wanted a song that made me feel a little more positive when I sang it."

To further emphasise that this was #oneforthefans, she posted this adorable caption on Insta:

I wrote up there, it really does come down to love and the intentions behind the music. That’s why this is the perfect first single, because this one is for you and I luv you.

Cassava (5): 'I just can’t bring myself to care about this song.' Well *I* just can't bring myself to stop the girls from smothering you in your sleep tonight...

Bleedingheart80 (7), within the context of the album, calls it a 'good start. Pretty song and she sounds nice.'

Michael17 (7.5) continues to be a misery guts, I guess some things never do change: Don’t see the love for this one, although it does have redeeming qualities. Has a very luxurious sound, but it just plods on a bit.

For GimmeWork (8), 'the best thing about Love is that it is simultaneously classic Lana sounding but also fresh and exciting.'

mokitsu (9) calls it ‘such a refreshing Lana song. Anthemic as hell, nice production details and just blissful.’

Sfmartin (9): 'This has lost some of its shine. The ‘don’t worry baby’ bits are cute and the melody of the verse / chorus is gorgeous i just wish it was different.' What, WHAT do you wish was different?

According to Bangers&Bops (9), 'this ushered Lana into a new era of sound. “Love," taking place against a sparse drum beat and floaty string production, is perhaps the happiest we have ever seen (or heard) the singer. From the somber reflections of heartbreak that put her on the map, she’s evolved with this hopeful, minimalistic ode to everyone who’s ever been “young and in love.”'

Haps (10) simply put ‘magnificent’...yep, that covers it.

Happiestgirl (10) loves a family-friendly ballad! 'So gorgeous. Love her singing about the kids. She looks so beautiful in the video too.' For the record, she also gave Coachella a 10.

Slice of Life (10) was also left shaken by Lana’s million dollar smile: I still can't believe Lana invented positivity, light and good vibes. Inspirational kween.

Ufint (10) reminisces about the past: What I wouldn’t give to be young and in love again. I teared up listening to it again writing this but it’s exquisite in every imaginable way.

Kalonite (10) is a grower rather than a shower, allegedly: For some reason I wasn't on board with this when it first happened, but I have been thoroughly converted. The video's pretty great as well.

Trouble in Paradise (10) makes a similar point to mine, albeit much more concisely: This is the perfect marriage of “Born to Die” Lana and Everything Post-Born to Die Lana.

Fantasy (10) STANS the queen of New Age: 'Honestly everything about this is perfect - from the lyrics, to the thumping beat, the way she sings ‘young in looove’, the Enya-style middle eight/outro and that anthemic chorus. Such an epic song.' The GAG being that Enya lives in a multi-million-pound castle alone...with her pets and insists is living her best life that way. A true inspiration.

11-giver soratami was left nearly lost for words by this stunnin’ track: I don't even know what to say about this other than it's just perfect in every sense. And it was the perfect start to such a perfect era and album. I couldn't ask for more from one of of my favourite artists ever /polishes stan card.

Sprockrooster continues to show uncharacteristically great taste by giving this his 11: This Goddess serving iconic smiles has me uplifted in my darkest times. It is almost witchcraft? For over 10 years my go to song to cheer me up has been Diana Ross' Chain Reaction as there is so much sparkle in her voice, but I think I found a substitute for that. My depressive and dramatic queen can uplift me like nobody else can. A song.

Fellow 11-giver Kuhleezi decided to use this as the opportunity to gather some poor hater, a kii: 'One of you absolute hoes have dared write a post some time ago calling Love "empty-sounding". Thank my lousy memory, because whoever you are, you wouldn't get away with this kind of disrespect and straight out wrongness if I remembered who exactly you were. How the fuck can you listen to those opening beats and think "urr durr this empty"? This song is spacious, but first and foremost it's warm. It's welcoming, it's encompassing, it's embracing. It's life-giving, and the perfect introduction to a perfect album. Okay maybe not perfect but it's not too far off.' DDD get her!

'Love' is all the much better because it's not about being in love with a physical person, but being in love with love, the abstract concept, that translates into very concrete things like an emotional state of tranquillity but also strive for happiness. And contrary to many people's beliefs, this feeling doesn't leave Lana blind: she can see through all her faults, she recognizes all her insecurities (with the ultimate highlight that is the lyric "doesn't matter if I'm not enough for the future or the things to come 'cause I'm young and in love"), but even then she manages to find a way to be content with what she has.

What I love most about Love is that, without any pandering, without any patronizing, without even trying to be one, it's possibly the generational anthem of the last few years.

Well, I'm really happy it made it this far and that her album was well received here, especially after Honeymoon was apparently done so wrong last time (I'm really glad I wasn't here to witness that).

Still, blaming the first 10 voters for it not making it further. #22!? What's wrong with you people?
Ddddd yeah these hoes kicked Music to Watch Boys To out before the top 30 and Terrence Loves You before top 20. No songs in the top 15. A disaster.

As one of the first 10 voters, I would like to clarify that I gave it a 10 and don't know what happened with the rest.

Also unrelated but I have a sinking feeling "I Know A Place" is gonna take it. It's an obvious 10 and we know the MUNA stans came here in full force. Add in a divided Lorde contingent and the writings on the wall

Lana may be out of the running but she far surpassed her performance in the previous rate which is what I wanted. It would have been nice for her to hang on for just a bit longer but what can you do. She released a wonderful album that was rightfully praised and at the end of the day, that's an accomplishment in itself. It doesn't matter that she wasn't enough to win because it's enough...
