No one guessed it...
But we're just beautiful people
With beautiful problems, yeah
Beautiful problems, God knows we've got them

The DISRESPECT for this gorgeous moment of sisterhood and pretty privilege, y’all really have NO shame whatsoever. This had quite the upward trajectory throughout voting and came extremely close to the top 40 - 0.03 points away, to be exact. This got a decent amount of 8-10 scores, mostly, as many commenters were eager to express, because of Lady Stevie Nicks lending her godly vocals to the track. It did also get a fair few 4-6 scores, which cost it the extra points it needed to sneak into the top 40.
In an interview with MTV, she revealed that Stevie was the first choice for the ‘strong woman’ she wanted for the record. On a total whim, she called her via Rick Knowles and apparently Stevie accepted straight away and hopped on a plane. Queen! During a 2017 interview with Flaunt magazine, Lana also stated that she
“didn’t know what to except or that I could even ask her. When I went through ideas of women that could really add something to the record, she was the one we kept coming back to. ‘Bonafide badass’ is a great phrase for her." She discussed the song again in an interview with KROQ radio back in May she gave the gays even more of what they wanted by confirming that
"she was amazing, she's just everything you hope she's gonna be. She loved the track and she added so much to it".
A lot of your commentary inferred that this was only worthy of high scores because of Stevie, which is only half-right in my opinion. The song is well-written and well-composed, with or without Stevie. HOWEVER, I would argue that Stevie’s part and the way their voices harmonise and soar together in the final chorus is a total #moment and is one of my highlights from Lust For Life. Real talk, my tear ducts welled up the first time I heard “blue is the color of the shirt of the man I love” - WIG!
Cassava (2) is wrong not once, but twice:
Sins for being both depressing and boring.
Trouble in Paradise (5) is testing my patience:
This song would be a lot lower if it wasn’t for Stevie’s feature. That one moment where they’re both humming always make me think of this:
Lower than a five??!!
This may be spellbinding, but the charms are wasted on
mokitsu (6):
Stevie sounds great, and gives the song a few points. Otherwise, pretty boring.
According to
Joe. (6),
‘both voices work well together, and it has an interesting message, but it's a weaker link in comparison to a mostly-perfect album.’
Not quite sure how this happened...
Jackarywoo (7):
I didn't notice the harmonies the first few times I heard this song. Their voices work beautifully together. It’s amazing what you miss when you don’t listen to the song, huh?
Slaybellz (7.5) gets perfection and yet still wants more...'
Not gonna lie I was hoping a Stevie/Lana collab would end up being better than this. It's just okay.' Some people are never satisfied.
Michael17 (7.5) gives commentary way harsh than their score suggests:
Too somber and not even in a good way. Stevie sounds good here, but she doesn’t add as much as I would have expected. Plods on. I don’t like the mumbling, lazy ad-libs throughout the song, either.
Bleedingheart80 (8) at least puts some RESPEK on the good sis Stevie's name: Only giving this an 8 because of Stevie Fucking Nicks.
This comment from
happiestgirl (8) sounds exactly like my friends introducing me to new people:
I love this one but it drags a bit.
For some, like
ufint (8), name power alone is enough to warrant a decent score:
How amazing is it that Stevie Nicks is on this? I really like this song because it’s Lana and Stevie together, and it’s perfectly fine, but it’s not really that exciting.
Soratami (9) manages to stay clear of shady with this comment...only just:
I love Lana for bringing one of the best alt girls from yesteryear into the 2017 rate.
This proved to be a grower for
sfmartin (9):
This took a while to grow on me but I kept coming back to it. The melody is exquisite and Lana's and Stevie's vocals blend beautifully. When Stevie's verse kicks in the song really escalates. The ooohs are very Ride and stunning.
haps (10), like Lana, fangirled a bitsy:
STEVIE NICKS<3
kalonite (10) was whelmed:
Stevie and Lana’s voices meld so nicely on this. The idea of this collaboration had me hyped in advance of the album release, and it delivered. It sure did.
Slice of Life (10) issues a warning:
Stunningly simple and beautiful. Don't yall dare Mother Earth this one, heathens. Well, Mother Earth made the top 40 so you got your wish...ddd.
Sprockrooster (10) surprises me by not hating Fleetwood Mac, because that would be very on brand:
During the first play of the album I had to stop for a moment before listening to this. I had to clear my mind. On paper this was such a majestic collab. A bar set so high I was very afraid it was unreacheable. But after that first play. Wig.
With no 11-givers, I turn to
Bangers&Bops (10) to close us out with a fitting tribute:
The track that every single music blog had been salivating over since the announcement of these two witchy women teaming up does not disappoint. An ethereal anthem to troubled love by the two women in the world most familiar with the topic, "Beautiful People" features Stevie Nicks’ immediately distinguishable voice at its best, playing with Del Rey’s soft whispers and raising them to new emotional heights.
