Kind of a scream that he’s been trending on Twitter these past few days not for his new music but for his awful rendition of the national anthem instead…
I’ve always found the US national anthem to be deeply unflattering for the majority of singers unless you’re an absolute powerhouse like Whitney and can make it work.
A voice like Conan’s was never going to work with this type of song in this setting.
It's not his vocal style. He was flat and pitchy the entire time.
I don't know why non-vocal focused artists even try to sing the National Anthem. That's not a dig at Conan. Being a popstar is seldom about powerful vocals and he is a good vocalist in terms of style and delivery.
Musically, the Anthem is objectively challenging. It has a huge range and uncommon intervals. It's not easy. He had no business giving it a go.
