COVID-19

Really feeling for everyone who is having their A-Levels cancelled; on the one hand, the earlier cancellations might mean we get a better and fairer system, but how is anyone going to have any motivation for the next six months knowing that there will be no exams at the end of it?

Someone suggested that my uncle "would have died anyway", which is exactly the same argument that callous people have used when talking about dying from Covid vs. dying with Covid. I know you're all better than those people. He may have died, he at least might have lived a little longer, and time like that is precious to a family. We are already wracked with guilt as it is because we'll always wonder if he would have received a different standard of care if he had lived in another NHS region. If one good thing can come out of this I hope to see health funding and support standardised across the UK.

Please consider contacting your local MP/representative and asking for help for those who are already at their limit as for them a further lockdown will be devastating.

The news announcement yesterday makes zero impact to my daily life but it has still such an affect on me.

I have been working from home since March and although I don't like it, I got to a point where I'm sort of used to it (have a lovely 'office' set up so it doesn't drive me completely insane). I have no kids. I also live alone so allowed to mix with one household as part of my bubble (my boyfriend) so at least I'm getting the D dd. And I even got to spend Christmas day with my parents. So all things considered, I'm sort of lucky I guess but still...

Hearing the PM make those statements, fucking up so many lives along the way, hearing stories of the pain cause by how this pandemic has been handled (fatalities, economic issues, mental health, education) you can't help but go into quite a dark place.

Not doing lockdown MAY have allowed your Uncle to live slightly longer at the expense of MANY more people potentially dying who otherwise would have lived just fine. It’s a shit scenario. There is no ideal choice. So you go with the one that will save more lives than the other, which right now appears to be lockdown.

I’m sorry for your loss, but you seem to just be strictly Anti-Lockdown regardless
of the very real health risks to the nation not locking down and allowing this virus to run amok would pose. If lockdown is affecting you mentally, perhaps look into services which I’m sure exist for ‘lockdown mental health’ and can help you through this.

Take care.

On a positive note; because all the hospitals and beds are almost full in the Netherlands, there was a fireworks ban. FINALLY!
People still had some fireworks but it was much less and almost no noise during the day. What a blessing for us, pets, children.
And only 1 accident...

I hope the fireworks ban is here to stay for every New Years celebration!

Also working on my new house has been a great time spending way to deal with the current lockdown till January 19th in the Netherlands. Which will probably be extended I think. Does it matter that I cannot test, see, try furniture before ordering? No I don't give a shit - health & lockdown first - I'll get my furniture later!

Tribal I thought you weren't going to post in the thread anymore.

Ban fireworks forever.
I like fireworks.

Seeing a lot of people complain about the latest lockdown on social media. Or at least complain about the fact we’ll have had more than a year of restrictions.

Why is that a surprise to anyone? We’re in a global pandemic.

Just because the Tories made it possible for you to go on holiday to Mykonos or go out for five meals a day in August and only spend £15 doesn’t mean it was ever actually sensible to do so.

A lot of people who were out and about socialising all of December (and the summer) are now complaining about lockdown and are ‘sad’ about it? Actions have consequences.

This is exactly the same for me. I've barely changed the way I live since March since I never trusted the government's easing of lockdown and especially not the 'eat out to help out' scheme. However, since the newspapers started reporting Tier 5 last week it really got to me. I haven't been sleeping well, have been getting headaches and just have so much tension in my body. I'm trying to combat it by taking up running and exercise again.
