Cruel Intentions

So gutted it never took off, all the people that saw the script loved it!

- that's Sebastian's son with his dads jacket on, right?

Same. You can't really go wrong with SMG being awful to people every week, can you? You just know Selma Blair's character would have grown up to be an absolute mess, too. I don't even think she was attached but I'm sure they could have got her on board for an episode here and there.

I have friends who have both seen and worked on the pilot, and all loved it. I was able to read the script once through one of them and it was fan-fucking-tastic. Not a patch on the film, but tons of potential, and reading it imagining Sarah Michelle's return as Kathryn gave me such joy.

Ah, "Cruel Intentions." Memories...

I stupidly thought the TV show would be a dead cert for a one season pick up due to good buzz, Sarah Michelle Gellar being onboard, the movie continuing to get positive coverage after all these years... was genuinely surprised when it ended up dying a slow, drawn out death. Aside from Reece Witherspoon's character being recast, the likes of Selma Blair, Eric Mabius, Joshua Jackson, Sean Patrick Thomas, and the incredible Christine Baranski, could've all potentially guest starred down the line with it being a follow up to the film as opposed to a reboot.

Doesn't seem to happen so much these days, but I live in hope the actual pilot might find its way online someday. Though the script would be nice, too, I guess.

Hold on now, this doesn't feel right...

Of all the amazing things about Cruel Intentions (Ryan Phillippe's ass, Swoozie Kurtz having a breakdown, Selma Blair in general, Reese being wholesome and adorable, SMG channelling Glenn Close and falling a bit short) I'm not sure that the script would be in the Top 10.

Really? It's still one of the most quotable scripts I've ever come across. The pilot had the same twists, camp, and snark that made the film so fun - but certainly relied a bit too much on recreating the moments & lines that made the film so popular.

That said, the 'Manchester Prep' pilot (aka Cruel Intentions 2) was a complete disaster, so I wouldn't be surprised if this didn't up translating well at all.

There's a Facebook account that has uploaded the NBC pilot that never got picked up.

But because they decided to do it as a 'Facebook Live' video, the quality sucks.
EDIT: They've added a WeTransfer link to the full thing in the comments.

Here's some clips for those who can't be bothered with the full thing:

Dddd normally I would never bother with trash reboots especially since Cruel Intentions is one of my favourite movies but this looks so bad that it looks good.

Also is the quote near the end of the first clip a reference to Taylor Swift ?? "There's a special place in hell for women who don't help other women".

I died. People always compare her to Regina George but Kathryn Merteuil works too.

I loved this! Not sure how long they could drag it out but a little mini series would have been perfect.

Im just happy to know Kathyrn landed on her feet.

Ah, finally! I saw a link to a short clip literally just now, and hoped it was a sign the whole thing would surface eventually. Quite looking forward to watching this, I can't lie. I think this had potential as a series.

Thanks @lushLuck!

I just finished watching it and it was surprisingly good??? The pacing in the first 7min were awful though. It felt completely rushed and cheesy, but as soon as we got the story moving it actually started getting good. And aside from the guy who plays Sebastian's son and the actress playing Reese's character the casting was great. Those two were the weak links and should have been re-casted.

I'm really surprised this wasn't picked up. With a few tweaks this could have fit nicely on The CW's roster. They have way worse on that network.
