Cruel Intentions

He/Him
Unfortunately SMG doesn't seem that interested in acting these days, she is pretty busy with her FoodStirs business. Considering how she didn't win all the awards ever for her role as Buffy where she was so good , I don't blame her too much...

I just finished watching it and it was surprisingly good??? The pacing in the first 7min were awful though. It felt completely rushed and cheesy, but as soon as we got the story moving it actually started getting good. And aside from the guy who plays Sebastian's son and the actress playing Reese's character the casting was great. Those two were the weak links and should have been re-casted.

I'm really surprised this wasn't picked up. With a few tweaks this could have fit nicely on The CW's roster. They have way worse on that network.
I really enjoyed it as well. Cheesy, trashy fun that I agree would've fit perfectly on The CW. Did it compare to the film? Not in the slightest, but there was definitely something worth keeping here. Considering how tragic every show on NBC has been in the last few seasons, they could've really used this.

I honestly don't think FoodStirs is her first choice; she's taken work when it's come available to her. Actors can't really afford to get bitter over stuff like not winning awards, even when the work is as great as she was in Buffy. It seemed like she really wanted Cruel Intentions to work.

Thank heavens this leaked.

A round of applause for queen SMG. Great to see Kathryn back to her old ways.

The casting was pretty good. New Annette worked rather well. We can only dream of the possibily that Reese would've ever returned.

I'm sure Selma Blair would've come back as Cecile had the show been picked up.

Let's talk about the music. I love how they updated the score from the movie. I always thought it sounded sexy and it suits the show perfectly.

Also very nice that they included some of the key songs from the soundtrack. Didn't expect to hear "You Could Make A Killing".

If This Is Us hadn't been in the picture this seriously could have aired instead. I also agree that it would have fit perfectly on The CW.

Alas, what could have been.

The pilot was perfecty judged. It felt like both a revisit and a genuine continuation of the film. Sarah is excellent in it, and you canreally tell that shes enjoying stepping into Kathryn's shoes again. I'm both happy that I watched it and sad that this is all we're getting.

I feel like had they went for a 'name' for Annette this may have had more of a chance to be perfectly honest. It needed a bit more star power in the supporting cast.
Haven't watched it yet but I remember thinking back when it was being made: if Annette's role had simply been a little cameo in the first episode, I reckon Reece would've done it. She's friendly with Sarah Michelle Gellar (the two, along with Selma Blair, went to see the unofficial musical parody) and she clearly doesn't have issues doing TV ("Big Little Lies"). But as soon as it was announced that Annette would be a recurring character that was clearly out. They did right by getting SMG to reprise her role, so I think they should've tried to avoid recasting anyone from the movie.

I'm sure had the series been picked up the likes of Blair, Eric Mabius, Joshua Jackson, etc. could've been persuaded to appear. And Christine Baranski, of course. I can only imagine what Bunny and Cecile's relationship would be like after all these years.

"Keep your legs together, this isn't Jamaica!"

Watched it, loved it. Not the same quality as the original, of course, but I dare say it was a cut above other shows of its ilk that are around right now.

Completely agree. There were just enough callbacks and easter eggs to the movie without it feeling too forced. Love that they used a remix of the movie's score throughout, and homaged the Bittersweet Symphony scene.

The opening act was definitely rushed but once Bash got to the city and the actual Cruel Intentions stuff began it settled into a fine groove. Though pilots these days in general tend to feel rushed. It's like they want to introduce the full cast and supporting characters and establish 12 storylines in 45 minutes. I know people these days are all about instant grat but it's too much. I miss the days when feature length/two-part pilots were more common. Feels less slapdash.

I agree, transitioning into things like FoodStirs and her cookbook is good money while the acting roles may not be as readily available. Get money SMG.

I am so LATE but I saw a 10 minute clip of the pilot and now I want to see the rest - NO WHERE to be found on the net. It was an amazing MESS.
