he/him
Well, at least I'm finally not losing a 10.

.

I know but I love them so unless it's a certain song in the rate then I'll be upset, okay?

Sigh. I never win these arguments, do I?

#60. Girlicious - Baby Doll - 6.320

GirliciousBabyDoll.png

Highest: 10 x 3 (@LPMA, @ohdenny, @slaybellz)
Lowest: 0 x 1 (@Shockbox) 2 x 2 (@phily693, @londonrain) 3 x 1 (@Reboot)

Song Charted: #55 Canada

Release/Video: Natalie confirmed the single via web video and it was released to iTunes Canada. it charted at #75 when the album first dropped, but re-entered due to the single release. The song was first performed on "Live @ Much" (@iheartpoptarts please educate us) and their video was first shown on Much Music after a behind the scenes episode of 'OnSet". It even got to #4 on the Much Music video countdown. I don't know why, considering its just some random dancing by a green Cadillac with various cheap green screens behind them. Not Robin Antin's finest work. As you can tell, the song was only impactful in Canada due to this release strategy.

(9) - Funny story, but I first noticed this song from one the remixes and then forgot about it. This was back in my early pop awakening years and when I came back to the group it became in instant favorite from my memories with that remix. I don't know, I guess I have a weakness for the kind of sassy attitude they deliver throughout. Nichole's prechorus "you good right now, but you can do better" is a particular highlight. Plus, she was the instant eye candy for me; weird braids and all. This works for @GhettoPrincess, because she's all about Natalie. I understand there are parts of this song that will be repetitive in the wrongs ways and I respect that. Not everyone is ready for this kind of pop banger.

sUntJtv.png

Oh Nicola, poor poor Nicola. You've got a big storm comin' your way.

(3) - This does absolutely nothing for me. Like, it makes me feel nothing. Just nothing. The same goes for the rest of their songs.

Z9GCZhl.png

Excuse me Baby Spice, but it's 100% a basic bop. That's always been your kind.

(5) - It’s not really my kind of 2008, now is it?

ZpwLyMe.png

Hey, I'm not judging your attraction to Busta Rhymes.

(5) - No to the white girl with braids.

eGYKjLS.png

Oh no you don't, I've already said they deliver swag in the song. Just look up a few lines. I already called it, I did!

(6) - Girls having total swag and personality in the video. Something the song lacks.

thSrEb0.png

Ask Mollie anything about Girlicious, they're kind of like her little sisters ya know, she's very protective of them. I love how she thinks the remix she is referring to is better for any reason other than Natalie getting Tiffanie's lines. I see you.

(6) - I love them but not this song. I think it’s cos I prefer the performance remix they did when Tiffanie was kicked out. It incorporates a dance remix of the song about halfway through and it bops so much better. I do love “ring on my finger, yeah!” though. I wish they went with Liar Liar as a single instead. Also worth checking out from the 2nd album is What My Mama Don’t Know and Game Over.

Also "Game Over" is that bawp, tell em!

Rd7LLKD.png

Mutya has already moved on to 100% stream-only lifestyle.

(7) - Not happy that there's a Girlicious song I like that I hadn't heard before and will probably never hear again. Does nobody care enough to put them on Spotify.

Yeah I hated that too and had to hunt down mp3s. Then again, I only love about a half dozens songs, mostly from Rebuilt, so it wasn't a ton of work.

Oavaix3.png

Heidi exposes the real reason I love the song. (The album cover I chose also did that)

(7) - “you know you wanna see me undressing” - anthem for the #straightladsofpopjustsice

EeTO3OB.png

You've got to love how Melanie is north of 40 and she's still getting her life to basic bops. Life goals, etc.

(10) - This song still goes off.

MuchMusic getting the recognition they deserve! I also mentioned them on another one of their songs.

And I honestly don't know what ya'll are hearing because this song is a certified bop. I'm bopping right now.

#59. Dream - This Is Me - 6.337

500x500.jpg

Highest: 10 x 2 (@LPMA, @Remorque)
Lowest: 1 x 1 (@GhettoPrincess) 2 x 1 (@phily693) 3 x 3 (@Aester, @eyeline, @Filler)

Song Charted: #39 USA

Written By: Steve Kipner, David Frank, and Pamela Sheyne. This trio is responsible for "Genie In A Bottle".

Band Era:
1998-2003. They announced they would be making a comeback in 2015, but then called it off in 2016.

Members: Holly Blake-Arnstein, Diana Ortiz, Ashley Poole, Melissa Schuman (1998-2002), Alex Chester (1998-1999), Kasey Sheridan (2002-2003).

Albums: It Was All A Dream (2001)

Creation: Talent scout Judith Fontaine found Holly, Melissa, Ashley, and Alex in California. The girls decided to leave Fontaine and instead went to P Diddy, where they were signed by Bad Boy Records. Fontaine would later sue the record label and the girls, but lost the case. During this time, Alex left the group and was replaced by Diana.

Peak: "He Loves U Not" was their mega hit, but "This Is Me" did well too, the video even got to #1 on TRL. They toured with Destiny's Child, Eve, and Nelly. They had dolls made of them, appeared on MTV Cribs, and were on several other TV shows.

Downfall: They were supposed to have 3rd and 4th singles from It Was All A Dream, but it never happened. Some of the blame was put on the terrorists attacks at the time in 2001. Little was heard about the group until the announcement of Melissa's departure to pursue acting in 2002. They added Kasey and recorded songs for a new album, returned with a sexier image, and song called "Crazy" that flopped horrendously. At this point, the second single and album were scrapped.

(8) - I probably overscored it a tad, because it feels like a 7 in reality. However, I use this and I had it stuck in my head during the voting period, so an 8 it got. It felt like a bit of discovery because I don't remember it nearly as well as "he Loves U not" despite having a huge impact on TRL apparently. Some may call the chorus a bit flat but I choose find it smooth as fuck as the words easily snake their way into my brain.

nYt8Mgg.png

And what does Michelle do? Refute my opinion of course.

(2) - It’s such a flat chorus.

Rd7LLKD.png

Oh poor Mutya, just type "Dream (girl band)" in google and you'll no trouble at all, dear.

(3) - Oh, a proclamation of identity from a group called fucking "Dream", which is about up there with "Frank" as the most ungoogleable name in the rate.

thSrEb0.png

Are you sure you're still talking about the song or the bad ME:A reviews?

(5) - This is dull and the vocal effects makes it worse.

Oavaix3.png

Well I tried to google a bad fashion choice for you Heidi, but I couldn't find any. I'll give away to your expertise.

(8) - Watching the video, I can't believe any of those looks were ever fashionable.

Z9GCZhl.png

Emma loves the song, but it's more in the mood to educate us all.

(8.5) - This might be a good time to post my fave Dream song from way back when! (Something something obvious crush anthem, what do you expect…)

Bop, indeed.

Uh84Bdc.png

Frankie ended up with same symptoms as me, but they were far more severe.

(10) - Another favourite off their album and I was so glad to have this as their follow-up single. That pre-chorus and chorus are such earworms and I used to fucking LIVE for Ashley’s “Don’t see things that don’t exiiiiiiiist!”. What the hell, I’m still living for it!

Baby Doll is excellent. I gave it a 9 because I didn't really know it before the rate, but I'm cursing myself for that now.

These results are... a roller coaster.

@DJHazey I know you got my score right in the listings but next to my Mollie King you've said I've given it a 5 and I'm afraid that's giving that song too much credit.

Also YES @ Baby Doll being the first Girlicious song out. I'm fine with that.

That's what I meant.

But more importantly, where was the love for using one of your favorite Darla gifs to lead in Girlicious and then pointing out your love for Natalie?

Sorry I was catching up in a rush, you now have a like and a lot of personal love for highlighting two of my favourite things.
