DA BAWPS R HERE DOE! - Flops, Drops, & Random Bops: A Girl Groups Rate (WINNER <3)

I'm just commenting on the fact that you've made it clear you don't like a popular song in the rate. It doesn't have anything to do with the results.

But if it doesn't do well in the results, how popular of a song can it be, hmmmm?

I've decided, it's over, we're all going to die of ukeleles. Or whatever that is.

This next song was actually in last place at one point early, which didn't surprise me. So you can see what kind of journey it went on.

(8) - Okay so I don't know anything about this group, except they are from Sweden and the member's names are: Katarina Sundqvist, Zandra Pettersson, Cecilia Lind, and Angelica Sanchez. @iheartpoptarts played this on plug.DJ and I remembered it from my days on bubblegumdancer's forum, but that's it. This wouldn't normally be a problem, but there is literally nothing on google about them beyond discogs and Swedish-wiki page with like two sentences. As for the song, it's quintessential bubblegum dance with that "da-da-da" hook. That's exactly why I discovered it on that forum, because that's what we all lived for. Popsie sounds like so many of the random discoveries we made all the time back then. The song title was built to have the puns come out, so let's see if anyone did.

thSrEb0.png

I don't know Mollie, how many vocalists in the rate are winning any awards?

(4) - The girls are the problem here…. there’s a potentially salvageable song here but the vocalists are not up to scratch.

sUntJtv.png

Just a bit too aggressive for poor Nicola.

(5) - A BIT over the top.

Rd7LLKD.png

Mutya has an answer for song's title.

(6) - Not with the Paradiso Girls in the same rate, no

bhcn77T.png

Well now, I didn't Kelly was that kinky.

(7) - Love how much bite and attitude this has.

ZpwLyMe.png

Posh is too vanilla for this.

(7) - A bit “much” vocally but great production.

eGYKjLS.png

Suddenly the room was filled awkward silence.

(8) - I like it rough.

Oavaix3.png

Heidi hadn't gotten to Stockholm Syndrome and Serebro yet.

(8) - Energetic and a little edgier than a lot of the European acts in this rate.

Z9GCZhl.png

It's tough life having a 120GB iPod where you've only heard like 33% of it, Emma.

(8) - I used to get it mixed up with this in my head. Long story short, I went online and discovered wayyyyyy too many international pop groups at the same time!

Yas, random rocker girls! Count me in.

yxHFGCR.png

Mel B is the queen of youtube comments and correcting grammar. A scary combination.

(8.5) - How could I possibly write commentary that would top this YouTube comment: “awesome music ever‼︎”

Awwww. Poor bubblegumdancer faves and my beloved plug.dj playlists!

120GB iPod

I'm impressed that you somehow know/remember this?!

And I'm surprised you never got into Vanilla Ninja, they seem like your kind of group! Though I guess your pop awakening came a bit later...

This is super cute too, guys, by the way!

The reason this song is even in the rate, is probably my fault because it could've easily been another one. Woops!

#57. (tie) Dumblonde - White Lightning - 6.350

maxresdefault.jpg

Highest: 10 x 1 (@Elysium)
Lowest: 1 x 1 (@Shockbox) 2 x 1 (@Aester)

Band Era: 2015-present

Members: Aubrey O'Day, Shannon Bex -- (formerly of Danity Kane)

Albums:
dumblonde (2015)

Creation: On 8-4-14, in a Los Angeles recording studio, fellow Danity Kane member Dawn Richard allegedly punched Aubrey. After days of speculation, Aubrey and Shannon announced the second disbandment of DK. That's about when Aubrey and Shannon decided to make an alternative dance album on their own.

(5) - Just not my cup of tea. Really nothing from this duo. Which is why everything below occurred:

Why This?: Well, I don't pretend to know anything about this duo, so when I picked a couple of songs, I originally had this and Dreamsicle. However, @GhettoPrincess (one of my rate advisors) told me that I should replace one of the two songs with "Remember Me". I kept White Lightning because it looks like it was listed as the lead single. Also, I swear I posted a song list somewhere before the rate, so somebody could've told me to switch Dreamsicle and White Lightning. All in all, it's my bad!

Z9GCZhl.png

I've never known baby Spice to feel guilty about wanting to simplify a pop song, but here we are.

(4) - I’m not sure I can get on board with the production choices here. Is it bad that I think I’d prefer it more basic? Hopefully not in this rate!

KPHueHK.png

Keisha alludes to the mistake made by having this in the rate over Dreamsicle.

(4) - This feels like it should be building to something epic and then it... doesn't. At least Remember Me has a beat.

Rd7LLKD.png

Whatever happened in that recording studio on that day, I wouldn't be shocked if Mutya was rooting on her girl Dawn.

(5) - Remember 'Automatic' by Dawn Richard? That was a tune.

bhcn77T.png

Kelly is ambivalent.

(5) - Tries to be interesting, but doesn’t really go anywhere.

bVvzt2y.png

And here we go. Nadine is the first one who will be calling for my head.

(5) - This is fine, but Dreamsicle is the only thing they've done that I really, really love.

Uh84Bdc.png

I love how Frankie is trying to tell us a pop song doesn't need a chorus.

(6.5) - I don’t need choruses in my life as some of the best songs of all time don’t have them, but this sure is a song that could use one. The verses are lovely, the bridge builds up quite nicely, but then the song just kinda descends into noise for me… Having said that, I didn’t outright hate this though.

nYt8Mgg.png

Michelle seems to be on the same wavelength.

(7) - The production is lovely and really holds this together. I wish the chorus or hook wasn’t so stuttered as that’s grating on an otherwise ethereal song.

Oavaix3.png

Heidi is going against the grain though.

(7) - Much better, but even Dumblonde's best moments don't move me that much.

thSrEb0.png

Yes, but Mollie you could've saved me by saying something more specific than "replace either one with Remember Me".

(7) - The song is entrancing but is not something I really listen to all that much. It reminds me of a tour intro rather than a separate song. The verses are really strong though.

ZpwLyMe.png

This probably played into the dirty trick in the last Cher rate elimination.

(8) - Ugh I wish we were rating “Dreamsicle” because that came on while I was listening to this group and it sounds much more fun and cute than both of the songs on this list. Come on Hazey! Anyway, the drop in this song is surprisingly nice, so props.

The fan-demanded version. "Dreamsicle"

I'm not a big fan of Dreamsicle personally but it looks like it'd win a Dumblonde rate based on all those reactions.

Also good riddance to Popsie.

Surprise! Let's kick another one out while we're here.

Just to show you that the UK aren't completely getting off the hook.

#56. Electrovamp - I Don't Like The Vibe In The V.I.P. - 6.383

CS1816156-02A-BIG.jpg

Highest: 10 x 1 (@slaybellz)
Lowest: 0 (@Shockbox) 1 (@londonrain) 2 (@Robsolete)

Band Era: 2005-present

Members: Tammy-Jay and Kally Davies. (sisters)

Career: This Welsh duo were originally known as Kute and signed to Island Records. They opened for Girls Aloud during the What Will The Neighbours Say? tour. They were nominated for Best New Artist in 2008 at Italy's TRL Awards. Legends, clearly. These days, the girls release their music independently.

X1aCrEp.png

(8) - I discovered this song when I was going through a phase where I craved this "drunk disco" style of pop. So songs like this, Dolly Rockers, and even messes like Millionaires caught my interest. I still have no idea what the "peaches and cream" line is saying because it sounds disturbing. But everything else, with their iconic accents, still goes awf. This is especially brilliant during the second verse, highlighted by the genius rhyming skills behind "caughty caughty". When will your favs make a bridge out of "buy one and get one free"? Yeah, thought so. This might have been a 10 back 2008, but these days I use it sparingly.

sUntJtv.png

Nicola does remember the What Will The Neigbours Say? tour too fondly it seems.

(6) - Slightly headache inducing, but not terrible.

eGYKjLS.png

Diana was covering her eyes.

(6) - WOOW at that video. Boobs and a blowjob? But the song is quite alright.

Uh84Bdc.png

Frankie has the nerve to go after one of the greatest periods in pop music.

(6.5) - It was very popular at the time to put vocals over a trance song and that’s exactly what this one sounds like. The girls sound like featured artists and it just kinda fails to connect with me… I was still dancing though, so I’ll give them that.

Z9GCZhl.png

It's like Baby Spice got the answers for the test beforehand.

(7) - One of those songs where you know it’s a mess but you always bop along anyway. I’m sure everyone here can relate, right?

LMZSagk.png

And suddenly Yolandah forgot how to have fun.

(7) - ddddd the production goes awf a bit but rhyming naughty with … caughty??? Nah.

bhcn77T.png

Remember when I just said there's a part of the song that sounds disturbing to me? Kelly knows what I'm talking about.

(7) - Is she actually singing ‘I’ll shit my peaches and cream’? Iconic. This is fairly cheaply-made, but kinda ahead of its time with the deliberately trashy, stripped-back club sounds halfway between Hadouken and PC Music.

All I can think of now is that disgusting Shakira gif everyone posts.

ZpwLyMe.png

Posh and I are accent-appreciation besties, but I don't know what they're talking about otherwise.

(7.5) - I enjoy their accents! That tied with the video is giving me Skins flashbacks.

nYt8Mgg.png

Another comparison, another name I don't want to lookup.

(7.5) - It’s a bit budget Bodyrox and Luciana, but that doesn’t mean it’s bad. Far from it in fact. I love how the video is so trashy in a 2007 way too.

Rd7LLKD.png

Well whoever they are, Mutya was bopping along too.

(9) - Remember when Bodyrox were an influential pop act? I miss those times.

Oavaix3.png

I know that Heidi has thing for those Romanian basic bops, so this is no surprise.

(9) - full of energy and really fun

yxHFGCR.png

Mel's scale is a bit different. You see, the messier things get the higher the score goes.

(9) - TRASH! I love it. But it’s not as good as Yeah Yeah which this blatantly steals (/samples?)

EeTO3OB.png

I wonder what Melanie was doing with the peaches and cream back in the day.

702446

(10) - This was me and my friends anthem at the height of our Skins obsession, UK parties just seemed so wild to us. The song still bops to this day.

I...made a mistake with Instinctual. Let's just say today I would've scored it higher than the song we just lost.

That's the trouble with rate discoveries.
