DA BAWPS R HERE DOE! - Flops, Drops, & Random Bops: A Girl Groups Rate (WINNER <3)

Don't come for Remember Me.

tumblr_inline_mm3t4vT94U1qz4rgp.gif

Hehe, it's all good, I'm sure I got a song or two that you dislike onto the list, too!

Thank god that awful Electrovamp song is out. I can't believe I was generous enough to give it a 2 tbh, it's definitely a zero.

What I'd most like to know is HOW the fuck it beat genuine bops like Playas Gon' Play and Babydoll though? What the fuck were y'all smoking?

Surprise! Let's kick another one out while we're here.

Just to show you that the UK aren't completely getting off the hook.

#56. Electrovamp - I Don't Like The Vibe In The V.I.P. - 6.383

Highest: 10 x 1 (@slaybellz)
Lowest: 0 (@Shockbox) 1 (@londonrain) 2 (@Robsolete)

Band Era: 2005-present

Members: Tammy-Jay and Kally Davies. (sisters)

Career: This Welsh duo were originally known as Kute and signed to Island Records. They opened for Girls Aloud during the What Will The Neighbours Say? tour. They were nominated for Best New Artist in 2008 at Italy's TRL Awards. Legends, clearly. These days, the girls release their music independently.

(8) - I discovered this song when I was going through a phase where I craved this "drunk disco" style of pop. So songs like this, Dolly Rockers, and even messes like Millionaires caught my interest. I still have no idea what the "peaches and cream" line is saying because it sounds disturbing. But everything else, with their iconic accents, still goes awf. This is especially brilliant during the second verse, highlighted by the genius rhyming skills behind "caughty caughty". When will your favs make a bridge out of "buy one and get one free"? Yeah, thought so. This might have been a 10 back 2008, but these days I use it sparingly.

Nicola does remember the What Will The Neigbours Say? tour too fondly it seems.

(6) - Slightly headache inducing, but not terrible.

eGYKjLS.png

Diana was covering her eyes.

(6) - WOOW at that video. Boobs and a blowjob? But the song is quite alright.

Uh84Bdc.png

Frankie has the nerve to go after one of the greatest periods in pop music.

(6.5) - It was very popular at the time to put vocals over a trance song and that’s exactly what this one sounds like. The girls sound like featured artists and it just kinda fails to connect with me… I was still dancing though, so I’ll give them that.

Z9GCZhl.png

It's like Baby Spice got the answers for the test beforehand.

(7) - One of those songs where you know it’s a mess but you always bop along anyway. I’m sure everyone here can relate, right?

LMZSagk.png

And suddenly Yolandah forgot how to have fun.

(7) - ddddd the production goes awf a bit but rhyming naughty with … caughty??? Nah.

bhcn77T.png

Remember when I just said there's a part of the song that sounds disturbing to me? Kelly knows what I'm talking about.

(7) - Is she actually singing ‘I’ll shit my peaches and cream’? Iconic. This is fairly cheaply-made, but kinda ahead of its time with the deliberately trashy, stripped-back club sounds halfway between Hadouken and PC Music.

All I can think of now is that disgusting Shakira gif everyone posts.

ZpwLyMe.png

Posh and I are accent-appreciation besties, but I don't know what they're talking about otherwise.

(7.5) - I enjoy their accents! That tied with the video is giving me Skins flashbacks.

nYt8Mgg.png

Another comparison, another name I don't want to lookup.

(7.5) - It’s a bit budget Bodyrox and Luciana, but that doesn’t mean it’s bad. Far from it in fact. I love how the video is so trashy in a 2007 way too.

Rd7LLKD.png

Well whoever they are, Mutya was bopping along too.

(9) - Remember when Bodyrox were an influential pop act? I miss those times.

Oavaix3.png

I know that Heidi has thing for those Romanian basic bops, so this is no surprise.

(9) - full of energy and really fun

yxHFGCR.png

Mel's scale is a bit different. You see, the messier things get the higher the score goes.

(9) - TRASH! I love it. But it’s not as good as Yeah Yeah which this blatantly steals (/samples?)

EeTO3OB.png

I wonder what Melanie was doing with the peaches and cream back in the day.

702446

(10) - This was me and my friends anthem at the height of our Skins obsession, UK parties just seemed so wild to us. The song still bops to this day.

I knew this wouldn't last long but i'm still mad!

Yes at all the Skins, Bodyrox, Luciana, Hadouken references. Good fucking times!

When will your favs make a bridge out of "buy one and get one free"?
I know right? Iconic.

I don't usually see these two put a 10 on a song together, but here we are.

#55. Girlicious - Over You - 6.427

n2-jpg.1223352

Highest: 10 x 2 (@GhettoPrincess, @iheartpoptarts)
Lowest: 2 (@Shockbox) 3 x 2 (@Reboot, @JapaneseJesus)

Song Charted:
#52 Canada (Queens of Canada)

Writer: August Rigo (didn't write any other PJ favs really, except "Gotta Be You" by 1D).

Radio:
First song to by listed on the "Canadian National Airplay List".

Release: No physical release, just digital. Video was scrapped when they decided to push "Maniac". It was the first single from Rebuilt and therefore the first song without Tiffanie.

X1aCrEp.png

(8) - I only gave the song an 8 because it's top-heavy towards that head-rush of a chorus. The rest of the song is honestly just there, but I use it strictly to hear "don't call me anymore.." start in. I love how each line trails off like that, because it's so catchy to me.

Oavaix3.png

It would seem like I have competition when it comes to Nichole.

(5) - I'm over this song, but will never be over my crush on Nichole from Girlicious.

bVvzt2y.png

This comment tells us alot of about how the remaining songs were judged by Nadine.

(6) - Not... great. Girlicious as a whole get a "you tried" from me.

Rd7LLKD.png

Mutya wants answers.

(7) - Hang on, how have we had 5 Girlicious songs and not their indisputable magnum opus 'Stupid Shit'?

Well funny thing actually, I originally had all 7 singles and decided that "Stupid Shit" and "Hate Love" are shit.

nYt8Mgg.png

Michelle forgot the only song from that soundtrack I pay attention to is "Fashion".

(8) - There’s something very RedOne/Kat DeLuna about this. It sounds like that song from Confessions of a Shopaholic. Great chorus though.

Z9GCZhl.png

Finally somebody is throwing me praise for the time I put in narrowing down a song list.

(10) - Either the Girlicious ratio of dance bops to pop/R&B is much better than I originally thought, or you did an amazing job of selecting songs. Probably both, I’m guessing!

Basically I'd take any of the singles you like here and look into "Game Over" and "Face the Light".

thSrEb0.png

When it comes to Girlicious, you just let Mollie stan for her life and get out of the way.

(10) - I always think song is so underrated, probably because it didn’t get the music video treatment despite it being a single and was overshadowed by Maniac. I love it though and it’s one of my favourite Girlicious songs….. okay so that’s a long list but still it’s high on the list & a bop. I love Natalie’s vocals on it and then Chrystina scalps me with her ad-libs. “Better find someone new cos I’m over you” you tell them girls.

he/him
I'm just happy I was able to make new fans out of multiple people with this rate. I've been playing this song for people left and right for a while now and having somebody get literally melted by the craziness upon the first listen just never ever gets old.

Heyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

#54. Stockholm Syndrome - Karma - 6.450

Stockholm-Syndrome-Karma-2013-1500x1500.png

Highest: 10 x 4 (@Sprockrooster, @Reboot, @Elysium, DJHazey)
Lowest: 0 (@londonrain) 2 (@tylerc904) 2.5 (@If You Go) 3 x 2 (@slaybellz, @Robsolete)

To all the low scorers: When the bouncer kicks you out, the boss finds your website search history, the boys/girls find out how small you really are, and you can no longer find your brand new car. Don't blame me!

X1aCrEp.png

(10) - This is easily in my Top 10 for this rate and probably pushing for Top 5 teebs. I love how it always teases a new listener with its easy-going start when you compare it to the onslaught on the horizon. "You mother fucker, she will bust the windows out of your car..." sets you up, "YOU KNOW THAT BITCH CALLED KARMA WE WERE TALKING ABOUT..." knocks you down, and the electro breakdown never lets you get back up. Dance-pop blitz at its finest. I don't think anyone in their right mind was prepared for the lyrics awaiting them in the second verse, so savage! I often dream about the day I'll be able to find a song that comes close to doing what Karma does. It's good for the fucking soul!

KPHueHK.png

Keisha is having Sweet 7 flashbacks, but doesn't realize this is light years ahead of that.

(0) - NO NO NO NO NO!

bVvzt2y.png

Nadine, you seem unsure of yourself. Let me know what you think after a few more plays.

(2) - What the actual fuck.... these lyrics... I hate it I think.

nYt8Mgg.png

An actual stockholm syndrome situation might be underway with Michelle.

(6) - It sounds familiar like it samples something when it’s not going batshit crazy.

Z9GCZhl.png

Baby Spice plays it off like she's been loving that part for years, but I told her what they were saying like two weeks ago.

(6) - The “You motherfucker…” bit makes this song.

Okay, you always knew about the mother fucker part, but now you know the words after it.

Rd7LLKD.png

Sometimes going inside the mind of Mutya can be scary. Like, what?

(6) - Hmm. The "sluttiness" lyric does make that potentially unsisterly middle 8 of 'Pretty Girl' seem a bit suspect in hindsight. Still I rated that one first and I'm not about to backspace my enthusiasm.

Oavaix3.png

What Heidi really means is that it makes you want to hit re-peat-peat-peat-peat-peat-peat.

(7) - Keeps you wanting to dance.

bhcn77T.png

I don't think I like Kelly's attitude much and what this potentially means for Neon Jungle's finest.

(7.5) - This song is the same as ‘Trouble’ by Neon Jungle, but slightly better.

yxHFGCR.png

Just enough scary in this one for Mel B.

(8) - Completely ridiculous but I’m not mad at it. Dying at someone commenting “they must have one big headache hahaha”.

sUntJtv.png

If this is true Nicola, can you record me an album of them? That would be fun.

(10) - I’m a sucker for angry girl group songs.

eGYKjLS.png

If Diana had known about the injustices surrounding this act, she would've said "come see about me" to the executives involved. The results would not have been pretty for them.

(10) - There really should have been an album. What a mess for this not picking up.

Okay I haven't lost something I like in a while so I'm scared for my Karma~

Over You out before before the top 50? Damn you.

Stupid Shit would've been an early elimination I'm sure and Hate Love for sampling Umbrella would probably go earlyish too.

(didn't write any other PJ favs really, except "Gotta Be You" by 1D)

I approve of your revisionist history... I wish this was a PJ fave!

Basically I'd take any of the singles you like here and look into "Game Over" and "Face the Light".

Thanks for the recommendations! It shouldn't surprise you that they conveniently happen to be on my iPod already!

As for 'Karma', well, your other PJSC songs are better! *wink*
