Too Young should've been the highest placement for Queensberry. Get it right people!

Anyways I'm doing two eliminations tomorrow since it's @DJHazey's birthday.

The Ghetto Princess herself Mollie will be either crying or celebrating....

Well those Queensberry eliminations hurt a little, even though I'm sure my rating for Too Young stemmed from a feeling of nostalgia (not surprising in this rate I guess) - seeing it go so early does make me a little sad, the original member cast deserved better tbh.

Oh almost forgot to add this, Happy Birthday DJHazey!!

#44. Frank - I'm Not Shy - 6.667

Highest:
10 x 6 (@DJHazey, @CorgiCorgiCorgi, @Remorque, @unnameable, @sfmartin, @JapaneseJesus)

Lowest:
0 (@Animalia) 2 x 2 (@Elysium, @slaybellz) 3 (@londonrain)

Song Charted: #40 UK (2006)

Frank's one and only single charted at a disappointing #40. The girls were formed for the TV show Totally Frank and a lot of confusion was met with the band just being called Frank. The album was luckily already scheduled for release the week after the single and flopped too despite having that Xenomania magic. The girls were dropped not long after and split. Lauren (not to be confused with the GRL member) went on to be a part of the Paradiso Girls before the final line-up was decided. The song was originally recorded by Mania and was used in the TV show Tittybangbang.

LMZSagk.png

Turns out choosing messy group members means messy opinions.

(0) - Excuse me I was promised bops not pop-rock-country hybrid nonsense that sounds like it was recorded after a generous dose of tranquillisers.

KPHueHK.png

Keisha is wanting something more boppable.

(3) - This is a song badly in need of a remix to soup it up a bit.

Z9GCZhl.png

All I Ever Do is good Baby Space but Never Left A Girl just beats it.

(4) - Oh, hey, you’ve got a YouTube channel! So far, so good. Only WMG has blocked the Creamy song on copyright grounds but of course my old iPod has it anyway. In more relevant comments, my old iPod also has the Frank album, and ‘All I Ever Do’ is totally the best song on it. This is, well, not. I wish they’d made it to Saturday night so I could throw in a Whigfield reference…

yxHFGCR.png

I'm not quite sure what Scary Spice meant here.

(5) - COME ON FRANK! YOU KNOW I LOVE SURPRISES!

0KZSIZ9.png

Considering Normani's scores so far I'd take this as a good one.

(6) - I saw them live and their music really came alive in that setting but it all sounds a bit subdued on CD. Had potential.

nYt8Mgg.png

Michelle really went that way!? I mean those album tracks are a bit pants in comparison.

(6) - There’s a good song in there somewhere. I like it but don’t love it. A very good Sound of the Underground album track.

sUntJtv.png

All I can hear is wah wah WAH!

(6.5) - The cringy ‘If up’s a one way drop then don't look down’ (?) really ruins it for me.

bhcn77T.png

Yes Kelly, good taste girl.

(7) - This was a new one to me, but I loved the indie sound and the lead singer’s deep voice. More please.

i05I7ow.png

Siobhan needs to listen to the album for sure.

(8) - I'd never heard this before but I'm liking it!

thSrEb0.png

Mollie suggests listening to the album.... and discover the true gems.

(8) - I adore Frank but I actually think this is one of the weakest songs on the album. Never Left A Girl remains the best one of course. I love the chorus with the backing vocals. “Cos it fits like a glove, yes it does, I’m in love” is the kind of tongue in cheek lyric I love in pop music.

bVvzt2y.png

We were lucky to get the album considering it sold even less than certain Tesco exclusives.

(8) - I prefer this to Mania’s rendition. I don’t know if it screams first single, but at least we got the album!

Rd7LLKD.png

Only a legend.

(8) - I sometimes foist mock Only Connect-style quizzes on my parents. The other day, I played a music question where the connection was simply "Franks" – this song, followed by 'Sweet Transvestite' (Frank N Furter), 'Thinkin Bout You' (Frank Ocean), and 'My Way' (Frank Sinatra). A few seconds into my playing them a clip of this, my mum piped up "oh, is this 'I'm Not Shy' by Frank?". This immediately gave her away having Shazamed it, and I had to confiscate her phone. Thank you for being so obscure you effectively function as a trap for quiz cheaters, Frank.

ZpwLyMe.png

You know I'll love you if you bring gaming into your commentary.

(8.5) - I was ready to torpedo this but I’m kinda mad that I got into it by the second chorus and it’s actually very memorable. Why does she skip Thursday… guess she’s busy that day. The style of singing reminds me of like, the female cabaret performer in GTA IV. I feel like Hazey will know what I mean. Also I see that this video is uploaded on his youtube page. Iconic.

eGYKjLS.png

Yes Diana getting with that laidback vibe.

(9) - Nice laidback tune, with a chorus that pops.

Oavaix3.png

High five to Heidi who gave them an extra sale along with myself.

(10) - I was one of the 900 people who actually bought this album on its initial release. Shame on you, non-Xenomania-worshipping hordes of Britain.

Uh84Bdc.png

Frankie has questionable vocals but flawless taste.

(10) - I fucking love Frank. Devil’s Got Your Gold is such a fantastic album. Xenomania at their peak for me. If there was any justice in the world these girls would have made it much further, but I’ve always had the feeling they were put together just for Xenomania to get their songs out there… Alas, it didn’t take.

ODnsxhL.png

Another album (and Never Left A Girl) stan here.

(10) - Devil’s Got Your Gold is such a good album! It was almost impossible to track down, but I listen to it all the time. Never Let A Girl would’ve been my 11. That being said, I’m Not Shy is one of the better tracks on a consistently-great, sadly forgotten album.

X1aCrEp.png

Flawless taste as per usual.

(10) - Instantly captivated by this group's sound. They're like a mix of Red Flag, Girls Aloud, and some of my favorite Sugababes tracks all in one. I won't lie this 10 is probably due to me just discovering the whole album right before the rate and wanting to show my appreciation for it, but it's damn near a 10 anyway.

I never really got the love for Frank. (As in, I understand why they're loved, but I'm not feeling their music.)

#43. Parade - Louder - 6.767

Highest: 10 x 3 (@GhettoPrincess, @JapaneseJesus, @londonrain)

Lowest: 1 x 2 (@Animalia, @Filler) 2 (@phily693)

Parade_louder.jpg

Song Charted: #10 UK (2011)

Parade's debut single from their one and only self-titled album charted in the top 10 in the UK. It was also used in Rimmel make-up adverts. The song itself was produced by The Fairground who also worked with Alesha Dixon on The Entertainer album. It features vocals from all the girls except Lauren. They went on to release Perfume and the album before working on more material without a label & touring with The Wanted before splitting up. Luckily the new material was leaked online.

LMZSagk.png

Ally obviously has been hammering her head instead of tyres these days.

(1) - dddddd everything about this is embarrassing and I can't stop laughing at them putting "brilliant" in inverted commas in their new single advert.

Rd7LLKD.png

Mutya goes on one of her Snapchat rants.

(1) - Jessie J can only look on with envy at the space this hogs in the Venn diagram intersection of blandness and obnoxiousness. Worst song in the rate. At least 'Perfume' has comedy value.

nYt8Mgg.png

Michelle clearly doesn't know their target audience.

(2) - It’s so beige and flat considering the title. It’s offensively dull, I blame the production, it’s beyond tired. Who even was their target audience? Older women? Teenage girls? Gays? It’s just a disaster.

Z9GCZhl.png

Baby Spice this was a top 10! This is probably the only reason we got that album sitting on your iPod.

(5.5) - Their album is sitting somewhere on my old iPod and I’ve never really gotten around to it and I kind of see why. The chorus does have that one cute part, but as a debut single, this has flop pop group written all over it.

0KZSIZ9.png

Normani wants to punch them.

(6) - There was something about this group that really bothered me. I can't put my finger on what it was, I just found them annoying in their music videos.

Uh84Bdc.png

Frankie's left wanting more.

(6.5) - Personally I failed to connect with these girls at the time of their release and although I listened to this a fair few times, it never really did anything for me… It wants to be fun and funky and loud, but in the end you realize you’ve just listened to something a little lifeless, really… There’s definitely something missing during that chorus for me.

yxHFGCR.png

Scary Spice is preparing for the pop girls edition of Untucked.

(7.5) - The comments for this are like an episode of Drag Race Untucked. “So are we just gonna ignore that girl's highlight and contour tragedy?”

X1aCrEp.png

Kim's vocals might sound like shit but at least she was bopping along to this.

(8) - I had never heard of this group before, but this ends up being a low-key rate discovery for me...unlike that awful Perfume mess. The chorus is a hook and a half and the bass works wonders throughout as well.

ZpwLyMe.png

Posh Spice wants some more zigahzigAH during the chorus please.

(8) - Oh, this is absolutely adorable! Chorus is a let down compared to the verses though.

bVvzt2y.png

Nadine's now responsible for a world in which a terrifying Pixie Lott version exists.

(8) - Of course this is a faceless jam (who was it rejected by? I think I remember a story about this being a cast off of someone like Pixie Lott), but it still knocks. The album had some great hidden gems like Knock On My Door and Yes U Are.

Oavaix3.png

Heidi might get some haters considering the Neon Jungle song is still in the rate.

(9) - Much better than Neon Jungles song of the same name

thSrEb0.png

Mollie just gives you lots of excuses to check out other Parade bops.

(10) - I was obsessed with this tune. That chorus is pop perfection. Emily’s eye-roll during the final chorus always make me giggle. Great music video. Also check out Pretty Ugly from their album and these unreleased songs - Lose It, Light Me Up and Throw It Up In The Air. The last one would be one of my fave songs from them.

KPHueHK.png

Keisha was stanning for them.

(10) - I remember watching them open for Alexandra Burke and this was so slick I promptly bought the CD single. Shame their careers didn't go anywhere.

Aw, that's the first of my 10s to go. Louder worked (and I agree with Heidi - it's better than the Neon Jungle song).

Their live set was pretty impressive, actually. The album was a slight letdown in comparison.

Let the birthday festivities continue…

#42. Serebro - My Money - 6.783

jmYCmzw.png

Highest: 10 x 4 (@iheartpoptarts, @WhenTheSunGoesDown, @Animalia, @Elysium)

Lowest: 0 (@londonrain) 2 (@tylerc904) 3 x 2 (@If You Go, @Conan)

Once upon a January, things were a bit boring in the music world and nobody was making pop bangers. Then I came across this during a Spotify updating spree and proceeded to play it nonstop for, like, a week. So I forced it on my bop-loving friends, and the rest is history.

‘My Money’ conquered the PJ Charts (except for maybe four songs, but whatevs), replaced some other Serebro single in this rate (I think it was ‘Mi Mi Mi’), and amazed and horrified the plug.dj regulars in equal numbers (poor whoever was plugging at work).

It’s ridiculous, all right, but I wouldn’t have it any other way!

Z9GCZhl.png

(10) - We needed this. We really, really needed this. And its PJ Chart success still makes my life. Let me high five you [@DJHazey], and @WhenTheSunGoesDown too!

KPHueHK.png

Well, not everyone needed it!

(0) - About three songs in one, and none of them are any good.

LMZSagk.png

Personally, I think my initial reaction was more along these lines...

(10) - WHY IS THIS SO STUPIDLY AMAZING

sUntJtv.png

I’ll just let the legendary Ms. Ross help you out below!

(4) - This was going to get a decent score until that drop ruined everything. Certainly not their best.

eGYKjLS.png

Team #NoDubDrop for me, too!

(8) - Team #NoDubDrop. I didnot know this version was floating around, so yes at the host bringing it to my knowing.

0KZSIZ9.png

Do you live in Italy by any chance? Apparently not, but I’m happy to report that it was a hit somewhere!

(5) - I've never heard of this group before but was this a hit. It sounds familiar.

Oavaix3.png

…Or maybe there’s some other song out there that sounds exactly the same! Ooh, can I have it?

(8) - derivative AF but good

bhcn77T.png

To depict him dancing like a moron would be my best guess!

(6.5) - Why is Trump in the video?

yxHFGCR.png

My Spice Girl sister has the right idea. You know you’ve bopped to this a lot when you’ve actually managed to decipher the words!

(10) - That dubstep breakdown needs to stay in 2013 where it belongs. Fortunately the single version doesn’t have that blemish and I’ve completely overplayed My Money since Hazey sent it to me a few weeks ago. It has a super loud beat, the catchiest chorus and they sing about sending people close-ups of butts! What more could I possibly want?

ZpwLyMe.png

Too bad I can’t say that for all of them!

(6) - Very intriguing video but the song is a bit annoying

Rd7LLKD.png

Serebro does ballads?!?!?!?!?!?! Oh, I don’t even want to know.

(9) - Hey! They have a 4th banger in their discography! Last time I checked them out on Spotify it was just Song #1, Mama Lover, and then a load of crushingly disappointing ballad shit. Good for Serebro. Great use of the word "bonkers". Unexpectedly brilliant dubstep bit too, best this side of 'Hold It Against Me' I reckon. Ah this is cracking. Oh the 4th song is "What's Your Problem?" if you're wondering. This is better though. Well done Serebro.

nYt8Mgg.png

I just wanna go bonkers go bonkers go bonkers go bonkers! Yeah, that’s my fave lyric, too.

(9) - It’s absolutely bonkers in such a good way. I thought this was a few years old until I saw the Trump impersonator. Get that relevancy coin girls! It’s a very catchy song too.

X1aCrEp.png

And finally, here’s a little birthday surprise for our beloved host, without whom PJ wouldn’t be nearly as fun or as bubblegum…

(9) - Well, this is embarrassing because I could've sworn I gave it a 10. I will admit that if I had given it perfect marks, it would be on the lower end of them. What hooked me about the song is obviously just how fun it is from start-to-finish (once you find the dubstep-less version). The pitch that Olga sings at always wins me over, it's very playful. I love the accents, it's all very seductive. Olga is so stunningly attractive, I can just get lost watching her in any video. (more on that when Mama Lover gets eliminated) Thank you for bringing this song into my life when the PJ Bubblegum Club needed an amazing basic bop more than ever.

Happy birthday from Olga and all of us! Hope you get everything you want!

THANK YOU SO MUCH @GhettoPrincess and @iheartpoptarts as you have both handled these eliminations flawlessly. I just got home from seeing Power Rangers which was even more amazing than I expected. Becky G is a queen, Elizabeth banks is a queen, etc. Had some Olive Garden and since they're running their take one meal home deal, I get to have it again tomorrow. Now I'm installing the new Mass Effect video game I got, as we speak.

I loved all of your lead-ins and shade and of course love Olga's Happy Birthday wishes. xoxo

Let me get the first page updated with the results and we'll continue with me (who has to try to live up to these two) tomorrow.

Happy birthday @DJHazey !

I didn't vote, but I'm just popping in to scroll through the leaderboard - for the most part seeing a bunch of songs I don't know already eliminated, and a bunch more songs I don't know still in play. I'm saddened by the premature loss of Queensberry (they were, at times, Quite Good) and Frank (but not surprised, since "I'm Not Shy" is kind of crap), shocked that only 50% of Clea is out so far, and pleasantly surprised that the Clique Girlz (er, Destinee and Paris) and Play are still in (though I surmise not for much longer). And half-suspecting that the rate host went on a surreptitious PR campaign to ensure that Aly & AJ make top 10 (which they should). Anyway, keep up the strong work!

Now might be a good time to mention that you've been doing an incredible job of this from the start! Love the style and format of it all, and the pacing is on point. Don't sell yourself short, because I think I can speak for everybody when I say we're having so much fun here!

Glad you had an amazing one! xx

Glad you had a great birthday and will agree with @iheartpoptarts that you've been doing a fab job so far. The amount of time putting everyone's little icons in is hard work I tell you but it makes the rate so fun. I'd say I'm looking forward to the next results but I'm always scared it'll be a fave of mine so erm.... we'll see!
