Today we are eliminating songs that have been a pleasant surprise for fans. I think they've been thrilled to see them get this far.
This first song to get more than one 11.

This is the most recent act to be 100% 'bubblegum dance' as far as what the subgenre is truly all about. They claim to be from a "dollhouse in Dollyville" and are inspired by 60s fashion and Victorian style. The group always has a Molly, a Holly, and a Polly. They've had two Mollys and three Pollys. Their song "Hello Hi" almost made it to the final of the 2015 Melodifestivalen for Sweden. The same thing happened in 2016 with the song "Rollercoaster".
...Ouch. Well, possibly, maybe, we'll see. If it turns out you gave it less than a 9, then I'm not so sure you deserve 'Cherry Gum'! Can I have it?
(9) - I know that anything less than a 10 is going to feel like an attack, but as you said yourself...as long as it's not below a 9. I don't even remember how I discovered this group, but it was actually before I saw everyone raving about them them on bubblegumdancer.com. I immediately entered them in PJSC and grabbed a Top 10. I knew it was one of
@iheartpoptarts's favorite entries from me, but little did I know it would get an 11 in this rate full of basic bops. It's more of a comparative thing for me, because I have too many other songs with more of an impact on me getting 10s and this is just a slight tic below that. In another kind of rate this could definitely get a 10. If this is what bubblegum dance in the modern day sounds like, I'm thrilled. They definitely take their cues from the Swedish groups before them like Smile.DK and it literally creates an anthem out of the very name of the genre itself. If you heard this, loved it, have never experienced this kind of music before, and are interested in expanding that love...just PM anyone from the PJ bubblegum club (
@iheartpoptarts,
@WhenTheSunGoesDown, or me) and we'll happily give you direction. Speaking for myself, I have hundreds of bubblegum acts you've probably never heard of sitting in my library waiting for discovery.
I know Nadine, but this is what makes it 'bubblegum dance'. It has to have a childish 'barbie girl' aspect to the music/style.
(6) - Interesting. "pop my cherry (gum)" is questionable for a group styled like 12 year olds.
Lofty comparisons from Mutya.
(6) - You're just begging to disappoint with a name like that. Is it as good as "Chewing Gum" by Annie? Is it as good as "Cherry Lips" by Garbage? No. Nothing is. Sorry
Actually there are a few other Annie songs that win, but not Chewing Gum.
Frankie is not here for bubblegum dance.
(7) - I really hate these bands that have some kind of schtick like this… Sweet and sugary and everything about them is so over the top. Those wigs… Sis. Having said that the song doesn’t irk me in any kind of way, but it ain’t nothing special either.
Mollie, no no no no, it does nothing but explode!
(7) - I don’t like the looks but the verses are good, it’s a shame the chorus doesn’t quite explode into pop glory like it should but it’s a decent song.
Siobhan remembers being scalped in that PJSC.
(8) - so catchy!
Heidi just might be intrigued, or appalled, I'm not really sure.
(8) - What kind of Euro-kawaii-trash is this?
Kelly is finding out how bubblegum dance has a kinkiness buried beneath the childish exterior. Again, just think of "Barbie Girl" and you'll know what the genre is all about.
(8) - This is great, subtly sexual and dark beneath the candy-sweet, made for children veneer.
If I remember correct, they are older than you think Michelle. Don't let the costumes fool you.
(8.5) - The LazyTown realness in the video, combined with the utter filth of the lyrics… I feel wrong watching the video, are these girls ever older than 16/18? Is it bad that I bopped quite hard to this though?
Mandatory LazyTown moment or
@iheartpoptarts will never let me hear the end of it!
Diana is living with regret.
(9) - I should have given it much more points at the PJ contest, cause it much more long lasting impact than any of the other songs I voted for.
Mel points out how they've just as many lineup changes as your fav.
(10) - Dolly Style is BEYOND tragic but they bring the basic bops! I wish they’d made Rollercoaster a single so I could give that a 10 too.
Never in a million years did I think Ally would be all about this, but it makes me ready to enter future bubblegum finds in a PJSC. But then again, I should've seen this coming:
(10) - I've been addicted to this ever since hearing it in the PJSC. It's so obnoxiously, sickly sweet it's almost gross (and the video is definitely hugely questionable) but I just can't help myself.
Posh, just know that Baby Spice is going to heart you forever for this.
(11) - What kind of sugary Nintendo-esque bubblegum goodness. I honestly have to give the highest score possible just for “you will hear me when I cum, when I pop my cherry gum.” Wow. Kyary Pamyu Pamyu and Cupcakke their impacts. I feel like I don’t want to listen to the rest of the songs in this rate because this is the one.
This isn't the first time Baby Spice has tried her hardest to make me blush.
(11) - This is why I heart you… don’t tell me you didn’t see it coming! It’s everything I love that the pop world doesn’t deliver nearly enough of anymore, and I’m still holding out hope that we’ll get a full-fledged bubblegum dance revival one of these days. Besides. This way it almost feels like I’m giving you my 11, too.
Awww, thank so much. The biggest reason I enter PJSC is broaden people's taste with a fun, less-serious, and often times upbeat side of pop. I'm also trying to find new discoveries for the people who I know already love it, like you. Mission accomplished.
