DA BAWPS R HERE DOE! - Flops, Drops, & Random Bops: A Girl Groups Rate (WINNER <3)

I know my 11 will be safe for a long while, but there's one act that I have a soft spot for that I'm surprised hasn't had a song leave yet...

Finally that "Cherry Gum" song is out. I was getting more and more worried every time there was an elimination and it wasn't that song.
EeTO3OB.png

Oh honey, you could've rated whatever version you wanted to. I did mention this, right?

(7.5) - The "This/Is Remix" of this is the superior version of this song, a hard 10 while the original is a soft 7.5

I know but I couldn't bear to do it knowing people we're judging the original and it was probably gonna flop out early. It actually did better that I expected. Oh well.

Here it is anyways. This was the perfect pre-gaming jam in high school.

The best part is the "who wants to get drunk I do I do, who wants to get drunk I do I do" then you have Lil Jon yelling in the background "i'm already drunk!" Amazing.

The first song to break the 7.0 threshold.

#35. Girlicious - 2 In The Morning - 7.000

Girlicious+-+2+In+The+Morning+Lyrics.jpg

Highest: 10 x 4 (@GhettoPrincess, @LPMA, @Elysium, @unnameable)

Lowest: 3 (@Shockbox)

Song Charted: #35 Canada

It's the third yet most successfully charting song from Rebuilt and of course samples ATC's legendary song "Around the World (La La La La La)".

(8) - There isn't much for me to say about this. I use for how much it goes awf at "IT'S 2 IN THE MORNING!..." as well as the fact that anybody sampling ATC is a genius. beFour's "Magic Melody" is another example of how ATC's legacy will always live on and for my money will never be topped in the sampling department. Basically I just wanted to have an excuse to post a beFour song, sue me.

LMZSagk.png

I'll let this go if you let beFour have a pass. (Highly unlikely)

(4) - Excuse me who gave you the right to sample ATC? You are not worthy.

Rd7LLKD.png

Mutya finds a creative way to shade the song.

(4) - Is this like beer goggles for rate scores? A 2 in the morning, but a 4 at night.

EeTO3OB.png

Melanie glares at whoever gave the green-light to ATC's inclusion.

(4.5) - That sample was really poorly utilized.

KPHueHK.png

Keisha thinks she can do a better job of being Captain Obvious over the guy in the commercial.

(5) - I preferred this when it was called Around The World. The sample is so heavy here that it might as well be a cover - none of the new material adds much.

bVvzt2y.png

Nadine found it at the bottom of her library and gave it play #2.

(7.5) - I always forget about this bop. It's one of the only two Girlicious songs I actually know. Living for the ATC bit, credited or nawt.

eGYKjLS.png

Diana is being low-key scalped.

(8) - That rap-part in the middle-8 is on fire and with the chorus following this becomes a jam.

yxHFGCR.png

I wonder what Mel will give the beFour song for a score, based on this scale.

(8.5) - Sampling ATC is an easy way to get an 8.5 from me!

nYt8Mgg.png

Michelle has an even stronger ATC-bonus strategy.

(9) - Love the sample use!

ZpwLyMe.png

The sample was enough to make Posh feel comfortable.

(9) - I knew I was gonna give this a good score as soon as I heard the familiar jingle in the background. Great use of that sample.

Oavaix3.png

If you take the sample away, Heidi reckons you won't have much left but bops anyway.

(10) - colossal fun, although a little basic at times with the “All around the world/ magic melody” sampling.

Z9GCZhl.png

dddd, let's see what I can do Baby Spice.

(10) - Can we turn this post into an ATC stan fest? Pretty please?

If you only know "Around the World", these are the other essentials as far as I'm concerned:

@iheartpoptarts's 11.

Mine.

The best reason to play Touch the Sky.

Good enough?

Mollie is here to serve the hot tea.

(10) - I love that it samples ATC’s Around the World (La La La La La). I think this song is also the reason why they broke up as Nichole & Natalie had a fight over who sang what apparently when doing a live show…. oops. Natalie’s rap is the shining moment and I always live for Chrystina’s ad-libs.

So as I stated last night there is a tie at #35.

What I didn't say is that both songs are from the same region.

In fact, they're from the same band.

#36. Girlicious - Like Me - 6.800

gIrlicious3-1.png

Highest: 10 x 6 (@GhettoPrincess, @LPMA, @ohdenny, @eyeline, @Remorque, @slaybellz)

Lowest: 2 (@Shockbox) 3 (@Reboot)

Song Charted: #4 Canada // #2 U.S. Bubbling Under

This is the band's debut single, which was actually released days before the group was formed on the season finale of Pussycat Dolls Presents: Girlicious. What made this a mess is that fans were able to find out out who won the night before the finale aired. The music video won the 2009 Much Music Video Award for "Most Watched Video on Much Music". The song was released simultaneously with "Stupid Shit".

X1aCrEp.png

(5) - More Baby Doll, less of this please. In fact, I went through their albums recently and only found a couple of album tracks to my liking. Like Me just falls into a bunch samey sounding tracks that make Baby Doll feel like a masterpiece in comparison. I'm sorry, but this is just noise.

0KZSIZ9.png

Wait until Normani sees that they won awards for video views.

(2) - How does this have over 7 million YT views?!

LMZSagk.png

Ally thinks the video just furthers the disaster.

(3.5) - Oh my god this video is embarrassingly, terribly tacky and the song isn't much better.

Z9GCZhl.png

Baby Spice blames it for causing her to become a late-blooming fan.

(4) - I blame this song for making me think I liked Girlicious a lot less than I actually do, because I had them pegged as more of a pop/R&B PCD clone and here they are with all these dance bops!

Rd7LLKD.png

The song asked and Mutya obliged.

(6) - Well, if you insist.

Oavaix3.png

Heidi gives it a halfhearted thumbs up.

(6) - does the job, but nothing special.

nYt8Mgg.png

There was no nostalgia this time around for Michelle.

(7) - This has not aged well at all. I used to get my life to this but it’s so cheap.

eGYKjLS.png

Diana isn't here for the hate.

(8) - That is how you make an entrance in a music video.

EeTO3OB.png

Melanie makes me wonder why I didn't call it the North American section.

(10) - The fact that this group was only really popular in Canada still makes me laugh. These girls need to thank MuchMusic's excessive reruns of Pussycat Dolls Presents and constant playing of this video for whatever little success they had.

Uh84Bdc.png

Frankie wanted them to open for the Sats from the sounds of it.

(10) - I don’t fucking care what anyone says… The fact this wasn’t number one for five weeks is a fucking shame. I’m loving the fact every girl that could (kinda) sing got to shine a little bit (poor Natalie theaux… she talks nice on this too) and it’s utterly fantastic to hear in da cleurb.

thSrEb0.png

Frollie is at it again.

(10) - What a bop! I think I have slightly alternate version which makes the song come to life even more than the music video edit. The girls all kill their vocal parts on this. That chorus is the highlight though. Natalie steals the music video spotlight.

After writing the lead-in I noticed that @iheartpoptarts's commentary wasn't matching up to the 10 I gave them in the spreadsheet.

So instead of a 7.000, Like Me is 6.800 and 2 In The Morning actually wins out.

I decided I'd leave it the way it is at the top, just to fuck with people!

Oh my god, YES. The ATC/beFour tribute was entirely necessary after the bubblegum heartbreak that was Dolly Style's elimination. And it looks like we've got more ATC fans around here than I thought!

And YES. Look what I did, such justice.
