Darren Hayes - Homosexual

I spent a little time yesterday looking up Darren's performances on The Masked Singer , and then ended up on a bit of a Darren crawl through the internet, especially with that interview he's just done in which he says he did The Masked Singer as a distraction from his divorce. So sad.

Anyway I had a night to myself last night as my partner was out and I impromptu popped on a Darren DVD- The A Big Night In With one. It's not my fav (hello The Time Machine Tour!) but it was so enjoyable. I said something similar on here after seeing him on his last tour earlier this year, but watching that DVD last night just brought back so many memories and reminded me just how much Darren's music has meant to me- and still does. There aren't many albums that have ever had strangleholds on me in the way that Affirmation, The Tension and the Spark and This Delicate Thing We've Made have done. All 3 are quite possibly in my top 10 albums of all time.

Anyway, the flood of memories from watching the DVD have sent me off on a Darren marathon today at work (was the only one in the office, I've literally listened to him alllll day). What a back catalogue! And although it's fair to say I don't love Homosexual as a whole, I really do think A Little Death is becoming one of my favourite of all his songs. And that is really saying something! And it hit me today listening to A Little Death that actually I think it's probably about the break up with Richard. How to make my favourite song from the album hit even harder! This section:

As time goes by the feelings fade
But they never really went away
Somewhere in another universe
Maybe you and I are on that hill
Scanning skies with telescopes
L.A. lights laid out below us
Future lives stretched out before us
A little death you didn't notice

The melody, the lyrics, the feeling, the beauty... Magic. And heartbreaking.

He/him
So, as we all suspected, Darren was unveiled as the Grim Reaper! I wonder if he’ll use this boost to coincide with any new material or re-releases?
He played some cool demos a couple of months back on insta live. I'd much prefer new project rather than a re release. Perhaps an Aussie tour might be a good idea ?

I'm totally ready for another uk tour. This time with a lot more of his solo stuff. I appreciate the Savage Garden songs where to bring people in and I'm down for the big hits to stay but so many of his own gems left off.
