Darren Hayes

This Delicate Thing is a classic album but I just can't get excited about the new material. I downloaded my preorder of Black Out The Sun this morning. Played it twice and don't feel the need to play it again - this is not at all how I expected to feel about this. Not sure what's missing this time round but it's just not happening for me. Have pre-ordered the album all the same of course.

I like Black Out The Sun much more than a lot of the tracks on Delicate. And Hurt sounds amazing.

I think there's been a significant step up in quality this time around. Having heard the album at the fan playback, it felt much better than Delicate. I don't think I'll have any songs from it unticked in iTunes which would be a big deal - Delicate I loved about half, liked about another 20% and didn't like the last 30%.

Also, there aren't any songs as good as 'Bloodstained Heart' on Delicate, and only a few that come up to 'Talk Talk Talk' and 'Black Out The Sun' standard.

I don't have high hopes at all for this album's commercial success in the UK (i.e. there will be none unless a miracle happens) but I think/hope it could do well in Australia, with a proper record company behind it and 'Bloodstained Heart' as the second single.

I liked Talk Talk Talk but I soon got bored of it and nothing I've heard since has interested me.

I got bored of Talk too but I imagine it will work better as an album track as a piece of a whole. I think 'Bloodstained Heart' and 'Black Out The Sun' are two of the strongest songs he has ever recorded, during or post Savage Garden

The album has been pushed back to 24th Oct. Apparently a delay on producing the booklet.

Damn! I can barely wait as it is. This is going to be my album of 2011. I just know it.

After the most ridiculously long build up are they seriously putting it back a week because of a delay with the booklet? That's absurd!!

Looking forward to this album, his last two have been really enjoyable. Was reading that he wrote a set of songs for Dannii Minogue not too long ago, wonder if she ever got them.

Gutted, I'd been looking forward to this shipping next week. Actually even counting down the days.

Same, I'm not going to be a dick about it and vent at great length on the internet because it's Darren, but this is so fucking annoying. I'm aware this makes me strange but I had booked a day off work to listen to it.

More annoyingly, now I have to come back from his concert and just sit there thinking 'goodness, it'd sure be great if there was some way to hear those songs again...'

My interview with him is almost ready for my blog and Hurt is a big topic. That song is a mindfuck but it's also one of the finest on the record.

That and Nearly Love are the happiest unhappy songs ever.
