Darren Hayes

Justin Bieber fans do that as a sign of affection. Darren fans are actually really lovely. I hadn't really spoken to any of them since the last tour but met so many people at the gig the other day. Someone I'd only just met gave me a glass of wine and a bit of her KFC. If she had a penis, I would have married her.

I got to meet Darren after the gig as well. Lovely, lovely man. As soon as he saw me, he grabbed the shiny purple tie I was wearing. Knew he'd appreciate it!

I noticed that he was miming a few songs, 'Hot tub blues' was understandable and even 'Pop!ular' I guess... but I couldn't understand why he was miming 'The sirens call'.

He definately was not miming at any point, that's just how fantastic a performer he is!
It's spelt definitely and he definitely was miming. He's my favourite artist and I've seen him in concert about 15 times. Believe me. I know when he's miming. I don't know how anyone could think 'Hot tub blues' was live when his voice was clearly altered on it.

I can categorically and with 100% confidence tell you Darren did not mime at any point during the show.

I don't need to get into any type of competition about how many performances someone has seen compared to someone else or a spelling competition, shame you felt the need to.

Well I can categorically and with 110% confidence tell you Darren mimed 'Hot tub blues', 'Pop!ular' and 'The sirens call'. The fact you think 'Hot tub blues' especially was live is laughable.

Its a huge compliment to Darren and says everything about his vocals that anyone would think he mimed. I'll leave it at that.

Darren is an incredible vocalist. There's no denying that. But trust me, he mimed. I was in the middle of the front row. He was literally a few inches away from me. Think I could tell when he was singing live and when he wasn't.

'Secret Codes & Battleships' is amazing! I've always been a fan of Darren, but on this album he takes things to a completely new level. I like all of the songs (haven't experienced that on his previous albums).

When I heard 'Black Out The Sun' for the first time, I was a bit disappointed. Now I realize the song is epic! It sends shivers down my spine every time I listen to it. Song of the year for me!

And I hope Dannii Minogue will record the songs Darren has written for her. I'm sure Minogue + Hayes will be pop perfection!

He didn't mime anything. Trust me. ;)

I just saw his performance on The X-Factor (Australian version). I've never heard anything he's released bar 'Pop!ular' (amazing), but he's always been one of those "I would like and should explore" artists that I've just never gotten around to checking out.

I very much enjoyed the song he performed and I actually got goosebumps (?!). I love the artwork for his latest record and I'm a sucker for deluxe packaging (I'm a sucker for any music physically packaged, in reality) so if there's a deluxe edition, I'll probably just go and buy it.

Well done Darren Hayes.

You might actually explode when you see the deluxe packaging. It's stunningly gorgeous. Be quick though cos when it sells out, they're not producing more.

He did. Trust me.

Anyway, I got the album yesterday and I think I enjoyed every song (I got the deluxe version and the extra songs aren't quite as good as the first 12 on the album but they're still good). I also remembered he'd performed Don't Give Up and Stupid Mistake the other night too... I'd forgotten until I heard them again.

Any indication of how well this is selling?

I've listened to it several times now and absolutely love it. Can't wait for the deluxe package, but I'm pleased I have time to get used to the album proper before the extra tracks arrive.

Just sat down and had a proper listen to the bonus tracks. Some good stuff in there, but nothing great. Could this be the first DH album campaign where the album proper is so unrelentingly fantastic that no B-sides/bonus tracks could reasonably be said to be better? I SAY YES.

To be honest, putting my 'cynical pop listener' hat back on, they feel like half an album where 'Talk Talk Talk' was chosen as the lead single early on, and then it was sort of felt that the rest of the album should be like that but less good. I am very happy that one, we got these songs even though he decided against doing that, and two, that he decided against doing that.

Grrrh amazon is so slow. Still waiting for my copy of the new album I pre-ordered months ago!.

I don't want to play this to death until I have the CD with CD booklet in my hands but the few times I have played this album it still isn't a patch on "This Delicate.." or "The Tension and The Spark". Also Darren used to be very generous with B-sides but no B-side for either "Bloodstained Heart" or "Black Out The Sun" which is a shame.

This thread is pretty quiet considering his album is out this week. Really surpised that Darren is not featured on the front page here considering a few years back he was a guest writer and I thought Darren was an artist that Mr Popjustice himself used to like.

I already think it's his best album - no filler at all. It's more cohesive than the over long "TDTTWM'. 'TT&S' was great in places and the debut was really only about the singles.... and he out 'aaahh-aaahhs' Chris Martin on Blood Stained Heart!

So my copy of the Ridiculous Edition just arrived. Utterly beautiful. Absolutely love it. When you see the artwork blown up, it becomes obvious that it's not 'blown up' at all, it's the size it is meant to be seen at. Lovely lovely lovely.

There is a line from 'Bloodstained Heart' written along the spine of the outer sleeve, which just happens to be pretty much my favourite line from the album:

In the gutter
we are starless
and blind to dreams
but we can dream each other
to a new day
where the good guys
always win
and heaven still means something

Which gives you an indication of how big the spine is!

I absolutely plan to display it as soon as I can find a suitable shelf. So glad that an artist I love finally did this sort of packaging, and did it for an album I adore, and, on top of that, one with brilliant artwork.

Those of you with the Collectors edition - please tell us what the two extra tracks are like - 'Wrecking ball' and the demo song (I forgot the name).
