Darren Hayes

I received the vinyl today and promptly invited myself for dinner at my mum's since she has a vinyl player.

So after having completely ignored it last year, PJ has now suddenly decided that the album is good.
Don't even get me started.

I want to hug him after reading that interview. He really deserves a lot more credit then he gets.

What's the problem Darren? The album passed me by, I admitted it - I admitted to the artist - I've done my best to explain why, I've moved on, here we are.

And yes you're right, he deserves a lot more credit than he gets.

Daz*. I just don't always agree with what does and doesn't get covered on the front page anymore but I'm not getting into it in great detail. The interview was a good read though.

The album is a grower though. I mean I bought it day of release but I wasn't that in to it at first and over weeks and weeks of play, I begin to really like certain tracks, then fast forward a few months and now I love it, the whole album, every song is great it really is an album with no filler.

One thing that Darren said in the album playback was it's the kind of album where your favourites change every day - and that has been true for his other albums but with this 'Bloodstained heart' has been my favourite from day one. Still think this is one of the best albums of the last year and it really should have done a lot better than it did.

That interview is a great read. The album still hasn't clicked with me properly, I guess I'll just have to keep listening to Tension and (half of) Delicate.

Bloodstained Heart has been my favourite all along too.

I'd say my second favourite changes every day - my favourite will probably always be Bloodstained Heart.
My second favourite changes occasionally I guess. I used to be obsessed with Black out the sun but lately I can't really listen to it. I probably overplayed it too much when it came out. Really loving 'Don't give up' at the moment - I'd say it's the best contender for another single.

I love Ending Before I Begin. Frustratingly though I can't listen to I Need You as upon digging out my old record player, it appears to be broken. So annoying to know that I own a new song of his physically but have no means of being able to hear it. And he won't make an mp3 of it so I'm pretty screwed.

There are places which will convert vinyl to CD for you for a small sum. This is what I have done.

It's irrelevant who covers the album when because it still needs promotion. If everybody did a post or article at the same time, it would be kind of pointless. Everyone would forget in a week!

Hmmm. I have a record player but it won't connect to my speakers. I think I'm just gonna turn up unannounced at a friends house and play it on theirs.

well the interview has just inspired me to buy album and check it out, i enjoy his honesty why cant all artists be like this

He's filming a new music video next week. I heard rumours that 'The sirens call' was the next single but nothing's been confirmed yet. Anyone know anything?

So is there going to be a proper tour? The album has underperformed but he's still a big live draw, isn't he?

I guess what he needs to do next is release another The Tension And The Spark, i.e. something completely different from everything he's known for. Secret Codes And Battleships has its share of brilliant moments and I quite appreciate how Spartan some of the arrangements sound, but it's nothing we haven't heard before from Darren post-The Tension And The Spark (with his third album being his crowning moment, in my opinion).

The album remains one of my favourites from last year and I play it regularly. The interview was a great read - I'm glad Darren seems at least satisfied with how things are going. I think it's a brilliant record.

I'm not sure another video would be for Siren's Call since they've done that fan picture / video thing for that. As for the tour - yes, I think if he choses the appropriate size of venue and setting, then he'll be able to go on a successful tour still. I still hope that someday he'll play (smaller) music festivals since that's a good way to get your music 'out there'.

I love the interview - I would have asked some of the same questions, and as always his answers are great. He seems to have accepted Delicate Thing's faults (for all the good things it brought).

My favorite right now is Cruel Cruel World. Especially the final half.

He's said there will be an announcement in the next few weeks but he's touring the UK in September. I don't really think he could ever make another 'Tension and the spark' - as he says in the interview, he's already made it. I'm quite happy with him making more poppy stuff. I love his experimental stuff and Tension remains one of my favourite albums of all time, but there's something about how strong and cohesive secret codes is which makes me favour it a bit.

This album hasn't clicked with me in the same was as 'The Tension..' did, then again, that album is one of my favorite of all time so I see it in a different light.

I saw Darren live a couple of months ago and he was absolutely incredible. I would definitely see him live again. I just wish he had performed more 'Tension' songs, but I understand why he didn't.
