I love Outside. My top two Bowie are Low and Aladdin Sane - probably related to the fact they were the first two I got as a teenager - but I think cemented the fact that I really like him when he’s experimental, atmospheric, and / or using lots of piano, and Outside is basically all of those things and so probably rounds out my top 3. It just sounds like a nightmare in music form. Every now and then I explore a bit more of his discography - I would say that even in his imperial run I don’t love that many of his albums from start to finish even if there are loads of tracks I return to a lot. Loving the Alien, Absolute Beginners and Criminal World are three of my fave slightly lesser known Bowie songs.
I'll rewrite this 30 seconds after posting, but, in no particular order: Top 5 songs: Five Years, Blackstar, Queen Bitch, Starman, Young Americans Albums are in order! 1) Low 2) Ziggy 3)Blackstar 4) Aladdin Sane 5) The Next Day
After living with the man's music for the last 7 months (on rotation literally all of it, not just now and then) I think I can finally make a top 10 of his albums... Diamond Dogs Low Outside Heathen Station To Station The Next Day Hunky Dory Scary Monsters Blackstar Heroes
Always have time to rank Bowie. Songs 1. Sound And Vision (one of my favorite songs ever) 2. Golden Years 3. Ashes To Ashes 4. Heroes 5. Rebel Rebel 6. Modern Love 7. Always Crashing The Same Car 8. Diamond Dogs 9. TVC15 10. Lazarus Albums 1. Low 2. Station To Station 3. Scary Monsters 4. Young Americans 5. Hunky Dory
Mine ch-ch-ch-changes all the time (sorry)....but would currently be: 1. Black Tie White Noise 2. Heathen 3. Never Let Me Down 4. The Next Day 5. 1. Outside
I had such an immersive experience of his work last year I genuinely felt like I was mourning him again. Such a legend, such an icon and a true artist in every sense of the word and there will never be another. Happy Birthday David Jones.
This whole album is immaculate. That dirgey, slightly jazzy brass and off kilter rhythms that run throughout feels both celebratory and mournful at the same time in a way that only miss David could balance perfectly.
Has anyone (else) been buying the Brilliant Live Adventures CDs? The last one has just been announced. I bought it for completism but haven't even opened the previous two yet.
Another Bowie boxset on the way. Not that exciting really. Mostly mopping up the loose ends that didn't appear on the Five Years and Conversation Piece boxsets. The only interesting thing about the 90s Box Set will be probably the unreleased Toy album IF they’re not going to wait for the last box set for it since it was going to be released in 2001. Can’t wait for the new boxset, I hope it’s the same size of the Conversation Piece boxset. There is not much stuff from that album, the Great stuff will be in the Hunky Dory Box Set.
Most of Toy was made available as B-Sides/extra tracks during the Heathen and Nothing Has Changed periods, but would be nice to have it together with the unreleased recordings as full album.
Yes I have the Heathen singles and limited edition 2 cds (and Nothing Has Changed) but I believe some tracks are still unvailable. I hope it’s not a box set exclusive though because I don’t buy those box sets since I already have everything (even If the remasters are better).
The 90s set could go various ways. Sound + Vision (live) Tin Machine (studio, live) Leon Toy could be included....or.... just the studio albums and maybe a mid-90s solo live disc as well.
Sound And Vision is possibile, others concerts after the 6 just released I doubt it Tim Machine I believe they are out of the picture.
