Demi Lovato - “Still Alive” + HOLY FVCK

he/him
I know I’m an emo girl at heart but I’m kinda shocked at how much better this works as a “rock” song. The vocals sound less screechy when they’re being drowned out by a guitar.

Can't wait to listen to the rock version of Heart Attack - I think it was one the first songs of Demi's that proper clicked for me so yay.

Also, sorry if this has already been covered but is Demi using both She/Her and They/Them pronouns? - I'm seeing some posts saying 'she' and others saying 'they' so I just wanted to make sure.

I believe it's she/they as their current preference. So either or!

It's really good for an additional version. I think they could've kept the pre-chorus stripped for more effect (ala the original) but this is a really good reclaiming of the original for her.

It made me go back through the 'Demi' album, and there's some solid cuts.

The Rock Version of Heart Attack knocks. I don't know why now (maybe Still Alive spurred it) but I decided to revisit Dancing With the Devil and Confident recently and both are a lot stronger than I gave them credit for.

I remember feeling very indifferent to the former, and hating the latter. I have been sleeping on Old Ways and Yes, and Father is quite affecting? Cool for the Summer and Mr. Hughes remain the massive bops I always knew they were and I recall enjoying Lionheart at the time. Miss Livvi Franc snapped on Old Ways, per usual.

Dancing... is very long but there are some real gems scattered throughout. Melon Cake, Lonely People, My Girlfriends are My Boyfriends, The Kind Of Lover I Am, and Met Him Last Night are lowkey anthems. It has a few too many ballads (Anyone in particular is brutal to get through), but I was bopping most the time!

Demi, Tell Me You Love Me, and Holy Fvck are still where it's at but I also have a special place for Unbroken in my heart. Thinking this all over made me realize maybe their discography is a lot stronger than I gave it credit for. I guess I write it off because usually I'm just annoyed by the non-musical shenanigans.

Here We Go Again still hits the spot for me. Falling Over Me is one of the most beautiful things she's ever done if you ask me, there's something so captivating and charming about it.
