They really spoilt us with this era, 5 singles all with proper music videos!
Countless remixes, although not all great but still.
I’m praying the tour makes it to Oz, that will be the cherry on top for me.
Depeche Mode - Spirit 12" Singles collection. Out: Sept 20
Spirit | The 12" Singles, a collector's edition deluxe box set, contains seven 12" vinyl discs including custom replicas of the original three double 12" singles from Spirit (Depeche Mode's 14th studio album): Where's the Revolution (originally released 3 February 2017, in advance of the album), Going Backwards (released 23 June 2017), and Cover Me (released 6 October 2017).
As a bonus for Depeche Mode fans, Spirit | The 12" Singles premieres a special seventh disc: the first-ever 12" vinyl pressing of the band's legendary Highline Sessions, recorded live in New York City on 3 August 2016. The most complete recording of Depeche Mode's Highline Sessions ever released in any format, this five-song 12" vinyl single includes DM's galvanizing cover of David Bowie's "Heroes" (celebrating the anthem's 2017 40th anniversary) and two previously unreleased performances of songs from Spirit: So Much Love and Poison Heart.
Depeche Mode's Spirit | The 12" Singles comes in a numbered limited edition housed in a deluxe slipcase including seven 12" 180g vinyl discs, riveting artwork recontextualizing original album covers, a replica poster and download card.
Depeche Mode recorded their Spirit album from April through August 2016 at Sound Design in Santa Barbara, California and Jungle City in New York, working for the first time with producer James Ford. Released through Columbia/Mute on 17 March 2017, Spirit was the last Depeche Mode studio album to feature founding member and keyboardist Andy Fletcher before his passing on 26 May 2022.
Sony Music Entertainment released the first two box sets in the Depeche Mode 12" singles series--Speak & Spell | The Singles and A Broken Frame | The Singles--in August 2018 with the second batch--Construction Time Again | The 12" Singles and Some Great Reward | The 12" Singles--arriving in December 2018. SME released Depeche Mode's Black Celebration | The 12" Singles and Music For The Masses | The 12" Singles on 31 May 2019. 2020 saw the release of Violator | The 12" Singles in July and Songs Of Faith And Devotion | The 12" Singles in October. The ninth collection in the series, Ultra | The 12" Singles was released on 27 September 2021 with the tenth volume, Exciter | The 12" Singles, arriving on 10 June 2022. The 11th volume in the series, Playing The Angel | The 12" Singles, was released in November 2022. 2023 saw the release of Sounds Of The Universe | The 12" Singles in August with Delta Machine | The 12" Singles following in September.
Each box set in the series contains the singles from an individual Depeche Mode album pressed on audiophile-quality 12" vinyl. The artwork for the exterior of each of the box sets draws on iconography inspired by the original releases, while the vinyl sleeves themselves feature the original single artwork.
Spirit | The 12" Singles is chronologically the 14th volume in SME's Depeche Mode 12" Singles Series and the first to include a bonus 12" vinyl disc premiering previously unreleased tracks.

Nice selection of mixes and all that but I do wish we got CDs for these mix collections. Especially so for those albums where CD singles didn’t really get a proper release
I managed to get this on Amazon for £120 yesterday, it's now unavailable on there now, hopefully this will be honoured, I wasn't excited about this release because I have all the 12" singles from this era, but the Highline Sessions will be a real treat, shame they didn't include bonus discs with other album eras that could've done with some extra meat like Delta Machine, Sounds of the Universe and those first 3 box sets.
I am just going to leave this here, I cannot make up my mind if this is pure genius or really bad, it just sort of works, two of my favourite songs mashed together
I remember getting in to DM in 1991, after Violator, and feeling I was too late to the party, and was just getting in to them as their career could be coming to an end (they had been going for over 10 years by then). The 90s stuff all still feels fairly recent to me, so seems insane that its 35 years ago.
Guess it's the same with all those bands from that era, like Duran, who you thought might be drawing to close in the early 90s but are still going strong (with their ups and downs) all these decades later.

Violator was my first DM album that I was new to me at release - I knew of and enjoyed earlier singles, but Personal Jesus and the ETS had be perched waiting for release day.
I’d just started the avid fandom getting 101, Singles and then Music for the Masses, Violator then cemented it. And I think back now and realise how fortunate I was that World Violation tour was my first DM live experience
You lucky thing! watching the live footage of 101, I would have loved to have seen DM in late 1980 early 1990. So many of those great 80s singles they just completely ignore 'Live' now. I don't think i saw then like until 1986-98 singles tour.
I love DM, but i wish they still embraced the slight dance element that so many of their pre SOFAD songs had.

Yes, it was quite the sea change when I saw them on Devotional tour! It’s a bit hazy but at the WV gig they longer 12” versions of the bigger hits, and very much more in the dance mix style. And my memory might be causing me tricks but I thought they also did the Route 66/BTW version.
That's what my issue is with their discography in the last 20 years.
I wish they took things more in the direction of stuff like It's No Good and I Feel Loved.

I'm glad I'm not alone. I love SOFAD and there is great stuff on each of their subsequence albums since then, but its all quite similar or sticks to the same style. Its as if they are worried about any song sounding too pop or commercial for them.. I guess Dave prefers the dark bluesy sound they have, which suits his voice, so they stick with it.
I am glad there was slight movement song wise on Memento Mori probably more due to Martin co-writing with Richard Butler. But I also have to be honest on the last few albums some of Dave's written tracks have been stronger than Martins. For instance I think both Before We Drown and Cover Me are superb.

Thu 10 April 2025 15:30, UK Depeche Mode have shared details of their new live concert movie, M, which was captured on their Memento Mori tour. M has been described as an “expressive and dynamic cinematic” experience rather than a traditional concert film. Similarly to everything else that Depeche Mode have created over the course of their career, they have approached M from a unique angle.
The film features interstitials and archival footage from the band’s Mexico City shows with award-winning director Fernando Frias on filmmaking duties.
A press release for M explains: “The feature-length film, conceptualized and directed by award-winning filmmaker Fernando Frias, takes audiences on a profound musical journey, using nearly 200,000 Mexican fans’ fervent connection with the band as a window into the band’s timeless global influence, and a powerful tribute to the unbreakable connection between music, tradition and the human spirit.”
Frias previously won Mexico’s Airel Academy Awards with I’m No Longer Here, which won in ten different categories, including ‘Best Picture’ and ‘Best Direction’. In 2021, Mexico also selected the movie for the ‘Best International Feature’ category at the Academy Awards.
There is no specific release date attached to M but it has been confirmed to arrive in cinemas later this year. Memento Mori was released in 2023, which led to a world tour consisting of 112 dates that saw them perform in front of three million fans across the globe.
