Dermot

I don't particularly mind Dermot's presenting style - I think he's a funny guy and I loved him on BBLB - but he just drives me mental with the whole 'I'll be the one to stand up to the judges!' thing. No! That's not your place, and you don't do it in a particularly polite way. It's always stupid nitpicking and dismissing Louis as "being grumpy". Fuck off.

I've said it for years this show could do with Alan Carr as host. He's funny, firednly with the common people, quick witted enough to banter with the judges and not apt to take it all too serious as dermot is.

He would be great and he'd take the piss out of some contestants too, haha.

I'd be scared what Alan Carr + DIva Fever would =

Dermot just seems like his heart's not in it this year. he's good at giving bear hugs, but his questioning after the performances/'evictions' is dishwater dull.

I think Konnie's doing a good job on Xtra Factor. It's plainly obvious that she got the job because Simon fancies her though, he cant keep his eyes/hands off her. Funnily enough, Charlie Brooker is remarkably quite on the theme of X factor this year...

I don't mind Dermot really and think he's quite a likable presenter however in the live shows he is really quite useless and can't take charge at all. He doesn't have the authority to shut the audience up or stop the judges comments bits from turning in nonsensical bickering messes.

While Kate wasn't partcularly a great presenter I thought she was good at getting things moving and she didn't have much patience for rowdy audiences and would get bossy with the judges when it was all becoming a bit of a mess. Also she actually engaged with the judges and their comments. She was better at keeping the show focused, she just wasn't really Mrs Saturday night.

he/him
He's not bad but we could definitely have someone better.

It would be nice to have a Davina character, someone who genuinely cares for/loves the show. Even Ryan Seacrest seems more enthusiastic about everything than Dermot.

I honestly find Dermot refreshing compared to the Lord of Frosted Tips Ryan Seacrest. Maybe Ryan has the upper hand over Dermot in that he has the ability to keep a show moving, but the number of asinine comments he makes along the way is outrageous and at one point during this year's Idol he practically forced a contestant to tell a story about their dead friend! Seriously!

To be honest I've always found him to be a very good presenter. Far more interesting than most other presenters who are a bit cold, lifeless and scripted. The same applies to Konnie Huq on the Xtra Factor, in that she comes across a bit unplanned, useless and out of her depth but I really like her, and most of all she's just fun. I guess I'm just bored of lifeless presenters.

This probably makes me a sad human being but I was really jealous of Joe when Dermot picked him up on the results show. That would probably be fun!

I think Dermot is a good host. His sense of detachment isn't really that pronounced, he just isn't your typical "Mr Saturday Night Telly" and I think it works. Far better than Kate Thornton who used to host the bloody thing as if she were a war correspondent. The only aspect that he seems uncomfortable with is the constant announcements of ad breaks / competitions / phone vote instructions. You can actually see his eyes glaze over and feel a little bit of him die inside. His interest and empathy towards the contestants seems genuine and any moments of insolence towards the judges are usually a direct result of their failure to engage with him or his questions during the live shows. I really don't know they continue to make it so difficult. It makes for awkward viewing and gives weight to the theory that most of their responses could be pre-scripted. For all her (many) faults, Sharon has been the only judge who has ever managed to do this successfully.

I hate hate hate him. He's so false. And I don't see why he always has to defend the acts and question negative comments. The judges are the ones who are there to judge, not him. Even when only one judge gives a negative comment, ie. Dannii with Cher, he still acts like they are being awful. Twat.
