Desperate Housewives

While I would watch seasons upon seasons of Desperate Housewives, I think Eva is right - what else is there to say about these characters. And the show ended in such a bittersweet note with them splitting apart, it would be hard to come up with a story that would bring them back to the lane.

They'd run out of things to say well before the end. The Tom/Lynette split alone was evidence enough of that, never mind the godawful storyline about killing Gabrielle's stepdad that played out like a six-year-old had written it. Not to mention that out of the four leading ladies, only Eva was bringing anything like her best work in those last couple of seasons - everyone else was well into 'punching the clock' territory by then.

Let it lie.

I don't think a reboot is ever off the cards for any show that is as loved and storied as Desperate Housewives. I'd love to see it return, ideally as a limited series, if the writers feel they have a good concept.

We have to remember that the television landscape has changed drastically since this left the air. If they can settle on a good central storyline plus one individual personal story for each of the main 4, that will fill a 6 - 10 episode miniseries easily. Gone are 20+ episode seasons.

It's interesting, it really could go either way:

- A reboot on ABC: 18 - 20 episodes with a whole new cast, some connections to the old show, cameos from the OG cast, etc.

- A limited-series revival on Disney+: 6 - 10 episodes with the original cast, reuniting them over some new mystery.

I actually don't know what the odds are here. Part of me thinks that Disney would like the idea of getting a whole new series out of it, which can run for another 5+ seasons and keep making them money on both ABC/Disney+. But a revival with the originals is a lot flashier, and they could see it as their way to get a buzzy streaming series that isn't about superheroes and/or space.
