Desperate Housewives

Just about finished my rewatch, the difference in quality so far with season 8 is glaringly noticeable - by far the worst season.

The murder cover up story is going on too long, Susan’s sudden art career is so boring it’s painful, Carlos checking in to rehab out the blue, everyone suddenly hating Bree for no real reason, Lynette suddenly wanting Tom back despite her being the one who left him last season, the random loan shark stuff… the list of plots with poor writing could go on.

Thank god for Gaby!

They had to write on the go, it's not like today's Streaming shows where they have the full outline/plot details for the 10-episodes seasons with every detailed checked. Someone said here that if a reboot is made for a streaming platform it would be more polished, something like Big Little Lies.

I just finished season 7 on my rewatch and:

- I love how Paul Young bought seven houses on the lane for this plan (which I maintain was a pretty original plot point), gets shot and then not another word is said about it. What happened to those properties? He went to jail not soon after.

- Felicia Tillman is such a cartoonish villain and I just love for it.

- Lynette was insufferable this season, and I like her less and less after each rewatch. The scene in which zaddy Tom presents the whole family with first class tickets to a Hawaiian resort and she's just like "but I always plan the vacations!" had me wanting to choke her. Tom can be childish but the way she constantly manipulates him is icky.

- In contrast Gaby (or Eva) has grown on me. She gets the best jokes and does well in dramatic scenes even when the storylines are weak (baby swap).

- Bless Vanessa Williams but Renee is just a poor man's Edie.

A 50's/60's prequel series could potentially be awesome. I also suspect if it were to ever happen it would go to a streamer like MAX* so it could be even racier than network tv would allow.

*Or Hulu, I guess, if Disney has ownership in the title.
