Can you pay your bills? Do you only ring his celly when you're feeling lonely? Do you waaAAannt a foot ruUub, waAAaant a mAAAaaaNnicure? Wait. * Welcome, Children of Destiny, to Destiny's Child: The Discography Rate! Yes, Popjustice. Let me Cater 2 U, 'cause if you've been waiting for the discography rate of one of history's biggest-selling, most iconic groups of all time, then this is your day (okay, I did not think I'd have made three references to that song by 50 words in). I was truly surprised that one of music's greatest trios (well, after a certain point, but more on that later) had yet to be gifted with a classic PJ discography rate amongst those of us with taste. Thus, it inspired me from the heart (I've committed to this), and I have to say, it is a true honour to be at the helm of the rate of one of the most influential and defining groups to have existed in my lifetime. But more on that later too - I've gotta get my slippers, my dinner, my dessert and so much more, and get this thing going! * Choosing the best selection of songs for this rate was quite tricky, in that whilst I obviously want it to be fairly comprehensive, I had to draw a line somewhere. So, I made a few calls: - Only tracks where DC are the main artist have been included. - Only tracks with the presence of more than one member have been included - Beyoncé solo tracks from these albums have not been included. - Prominent soundtrack songs, originals, singles, and extras have been included. Let me know, however, if there are songs that you would like to be added to/taken off the list – I’ll be more than happy to make amends! I'm setting the closing date for votes at Friday September 14th, 11:59pm BST. Then, I’ll probably take the weekend to get everything in order, ready to kick things off at the top of the following week. In case anyone isn’t aware, here are the fairly standard ground rules for rates: 1. Rate all of these songs from 0 – 10. Naturally, when rating a discography this dense, decimals will be allowed to make fine distinctions - keep them sensible. 2. As always, the trusted 11 will come in very handy here to push your absolute favourite track beyond to clinch the title. 11s can really have a huge impact, so use your singular 11 wisely! 3. Not that I think this situation will arise, but troll ballots won’t be accepted, and will be discarded faster than Farrah Franklin was from the DC 2.0 line-up. 4. Commentary is encouraged, particularly for the more… prominent songs. You know the ones. I’m planning on keeping at least the first 1/2 of this rate pretty lean, so if you don’t comment on outros, and buried album tracks from 1998, I’m really not going to be distraught in the slightest. There's a fair amount we can get through pretty quickly here. 5. If you could please submit your scores in the order that’s listed, that would be absolutely ideal. It will save me a lot of hassle in the remaining hour of the voting period when I’ll inevitably receive 70% of all submissions coming into my inbox at once. * And that’s the main stuff covered! Heathy, thriving discussion is encouraged, and please, vote consistently in the way that makes sense to you – not just the way you see things may or may not be heading from comments littered throughout the thread. Take time with this! Destiny's Child has a rich catalogue. Listen once, listen twice, and above all, have fun!
