Did you ever get insulted by a record store employee for your taste?

I bought Telephone as a physical CD today on impulse and got a 'You're late'. I got really angry but just said 'Okay'.

You should have said, "oh...I didn't know we had a date?"

Both of those comebacks are amazing. I wish I thought of something similar at the time.

Or "I know, for a very important date." and then hop off like a rabbit.

I never think of good responses to people 'til ages after either.

I remember buying Mandy Smith's 'Mandy' on cassette in 89/90 in Tower records in Picadilly circus and heard the guy go out the back of the store to get the cassette 'someone's actually buying that fucking Mandy smith album!'. If I hadn't wanted it SO bad I would have legged it out. Turns out I was right and he was a twat!

I worked for HMV for a few years and to be honest I hardly took any notice of what people bought. It became a bit like someone buying baked beans and milk to a supermarket checkout worker.

I was buying Kylie's 'X' album in HMV and took it up to the counter (I'm not bashful at all, I've went to the shops to buy my flatmates tampons and thrush cream when the rivers are particularly heavy flowing that month). The guy behind the counter looked at it and asked 'oh is this a present?' and I just said 'no it's for myself'... he looked at me quite astonished and asked the silly question 'what are you buying this for?' I turned around and said 'because I feel buying a Kylie album really affirms my homosexuality, and makes me feel like I am.' I was expecting him to give a retort back, but he became so embarrassed that he stopped looking at me and bagged my purchase. Then I saw his manager come over, as I was leaving, to tell him off. I felt a little guilty... but nobody challenges me on my purchases! I used to sell porn magazines at W.H Smith years ago without batting an eyelid and all the old buggers used to wait on me starting because I was the only male that worked the tills at any point in the week (the same happened with gay magazines) a Kylie album is nothing!

I don't think the guy in HMV much cared for my Black Eyed Peas and Alicia Keys purchase yesterday. He couldn't even bring himself to hand them over....just left them on the counter (for me to reach for and pick up myself).

EG.

At the time I worked at a record store, my colleagues looked at me like I put on Lolly when I played Alicia Keys, Black Eyed Peas.. or anyone who had a hit single.

God I remember when I worked in HMV the week Kylie's 'fever' was out I suggested they play it, what with her having a number one single and highly likely number one album too and was met with vacant expressions all round. Like why we would want to play a record that may actually SELL a large number of copies?

Uuurrrgggh *Is fuming*

I was buying Justin Bieber's "My World 2.0" album yesterday, and the cahsier woman (who I mentioned before in this thread when I bought Sugababes' "Wear My Kiss") was like "I do not get why everyone love HER so much??"

I was like "Cos he's cute and can sing? Unlike those vulgar cunts you may listen to."

She was SO taken aback and I left the CD there and bought it in Tesco afterwards.

I was happy with my comeback and that I left it to buy somewhere else!!!! She NEEDS a slap on the face to be honest. Not a nice person.

Though I don't like Justin at all I'm still shocked how things like this keep happening!
I hope you didn't have to pay much more for it at Tesco.. though they deserved it if they didn't act so rude!

Nah, I think it was around €12 in that shop and €9.95 in Tesco, I was deffo saving money haha! Indeed, it was really annoying

The other day I bought the following in HMV:

All The Lovers (single)
Alejandro (single)
Kick-Ass (graphic novel)
The Warriors (DVD)
The Best of Michael Jackson & the Jackson 5 (album)

and the girl on the till commended me for my varied tastes.
