When this was Frozen 1 concept art

Would have been a better movie than what we got…
Can you elaborate in that? Are you referring to the gophers? The human models seem to look just as they always do.
It’s hard to put into words but the design language in the footage/concept art seems more pushed. The design shapes that are used lean more towards the Turning Red design aesthetic than typical Pixar look of Inside Out/Incredibles. The main character has some very specific design choices that don’t often show up on Pixar characters. Makes me wonder if it’s because the guy who created Cartoon Network’s We Bare Bears is directing it.
It is, but it is literally the Sleeping Beauty background art style, isn't it?
This is always my issue with feature concept art at Disney. It’s pretty but it’s really not doing much for the film. It’s an artist trying their best Mary Blair/Eyvind Earle impression. Their inspiration seems to always get trapped by what came before at Disney and not something new.

And then the end result is a bland nothing that doesn’t resemble the concept art anyway! It’s so weird.

With a lack of focus on creativity and instead releasing things they are confident will work and make money, I don’t see live action movies coming for animated films they see as a failure in the first place.

Let’s hope that the original stuff we get is good and does well to hopefully bring original ideas back to the forefront.

I want more 2D animation but I fear Wish flopping so badly, it killed any chances of us getting a new original story or a sequel to Princess & the Frog.

Compared to many recent Disney movies, The Princess and The Frog looks lush and warm. Although story comes first, I wish 2D animation would translate into more success. Miyazaki's 'The Boy and The Heron' did well critically and financially, but it's definitely more of a rarity.

I wonder if Disney has rules how their animated movies need to look: characters with big eyes, warm colours, soft corners,... . Throughout the decades, the movies have changed stylistically. Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, The Aristocats, The Black Cauldron, The Lion King, Treasure Planet, Frozen,... . But these last 20 years I feel like there hasn't been much of a change

They are used to sell toys. Which I believe still make them the most money. Which is why we will never see them take a giant risk, visually at least.

The Snow White trailer seems to have a very bright and warm color pallet, animals that aren't photorealistic, and the sets have an old Hollywood fakeness to them. Yeah, the Dawrfs look silly, but aside from that it seems Disney took the feedback from their past couple of movies to heart and brightened things up. Overall from a visual standpoint it looks much better than The Little Mermaid.
