Dog Days Are Over: The Florence + the Machine Discography Rate (And the winner is...)

Okay, I'm going away for a few days and I have a plane to catch very early tomorrow morning, so I hope you all don't mind if I unceremoniously boot this so that I can leave in a good mood.

Only If For a Night
Shake It Out

How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful
Queen of Peace
Delilah
Third Eye
St. Jude

Have a good week!

Blinding shouldn't have even made Top 30 tbh. I have no qualms about rating Sweet Nothing higher but both are rightly out now so bury that horse in the ground.

Don't know what y'all were doing the absolute most about, that's a stellar top 19.

Yeah 20 seems about right for Sweet Nothing in the grand scheme of things. I've said it before, but Florence has such a strong yet divisive back catalogue that I think anything would feel like a loss. This top 19 is beautiful (although I'd swap Ship to Wreck with Various Storms and Saints) and I'm excited to see how it plays out!

I don't want these in the top 10:

Rabbit Heart
Howl
You Got The Love
No Light, No Light
Ship To Wreck
Delilah

I'd expect at least half of those to make it but this rate is so unpredictable that who knows.

Here's what I'd salvage at this point.

Top 10:

Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)
Cosmic Love

Only If For a Night
Shake It Out
What the Water Gave Me
Never Let Me Go

How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful
Queen of Peace
Third Eye
St. Jude

I can already see Only If For a Night not breaking the top 10 and my inevitable breakdown, given the premature exits of Mother and Blinding.

I don't think it'll ever hit me that Blinding missed out on a top 20 spot in a Florence rate. One of her most criminally underrated.

I don’t know. Her discography is so uniformly strong – and with few songs that stand out as markedly better (or worse) than the others – that I think this situation was inevitable. I’d wager that the range of scoring for a good half the songs was between 8 and 10 for a lot of people. That makes the actual positions a lot less dramatic than they might seem; I mean, the differences in the averages between each song are infinitesimal.

If anything, this is maybe more expositive of the numerical averages-based rates system more so than the artist or the voters here.
