Drag Race Down Under (S4)

The franchise is doing fine if not great. Last US season was brilliant, Spain, UK, Canada, France, Philippines, all amazing. Fatigue is in the eye of the beholder or whatever.

I'm enjoying each season of Down Under more than the last, so it's not a matter of fatigue. It's just that it still feels like it's not quite reaching the potential it has?

Why does it need Courtney to host it? It won’t make the show any better because the host is the least of the show’s issues.

Barring a bigger budget (and soundstages/sets), I'm not sure what the "most" of the show's issues are, if not the fact that American hosts (either Ru or Michelle) just don't get the local humour, and no matter how much they try to pretend/edit it like they do, it's...noticeable.

Hell, I'd rather Rhys host. And I don't even think Michelle's doing a bad job or anything, it's just...I really think the non-local host are holding this program back in a way they don't on the UK franchise.

But that's just, like, my opinion.

I love Courtney but - notwithstanding any of the WOW/Ru bad blood - I don't think she's warm enough to be a host. Even as an interviewer on the ABC or whatever I find her extremely likeable (and relatable...), but not super empathetic.

I mean… Max’s look was very much giving Charra Tea. It was fine but nothing particularly interesting.

I’m more surprised that they put Brenda in the bottom two. Michelle’s concept of what constitutes a good ”family resemblance” (outside of just being clones) remains a mystery to me. Brenda felt like she had a lot of potential to be a genuinely interesting finalist.

Nikita Iman top me challenge.

I didn’t even watch last season of Down Under because I had all but given up on this franchise so color me pleasantly surprised by this season overall. I’m not really missing Ru at all and the queens are overall entertaining. I’m liking it!

At last Vybe got a win! Thrilled for her!

An actually pretty good makeover challenge, all told. There have been worse.

I did have to laugh when they had to have queens and the their makeover partners standing in the back because the stage is tiny.

The queens runways are all so much more elevated this year. Were they given budgets?

Loved the slapping skit and reading of Michelle. She takes it in good spirit.

Max’s runway was just superb, felt like a wrong bottom 2 for me.

The maxi challenge was a chore to get through.

Well, after talking all that shit last week, I have to admit: actually really enjoyed Michelle in this episode a lot. She did have great rapport with the girls during the mini, and the judges. Still not sure she should be hosting a foreign franchise, but she and Rhys had so much fun it was palpable.

Even Isis seemed to loosen up a bit?

Acting challenges are always miserable but the Top 2 had me literally loling.

Amazing lip sync song, and while I’m not mad at who went home (because I think it was her time), she absolutely won that lip-sync.
