Drag Race Italia

She/Her/Queen
The song's translation is correct! It's the opening theme of the Italian dub of Cat's Eye, a staple of the rich anime offer on Italian commercial television, and the lyrics refer to the anime's plot, so they make sense in that context. Maybe it was clear from the episode but Cristina D'Avena owes her huge fame and icon status to the countless cartoon theme songs she sang.

As for the drama, it was implied earlier in the episode that Enorma likes to pick fights with other queens and had bad blood with Farida in the past, so the Untucked fight played with that narrative. The queens got mad because Enorma told Divinity to "eat up" her opponent in front of the other girls potentially in the bottom. That's why Ivana and Luquisha said her words were disrespectful and in bad taste. But everyone kept going about Enorma being a loudmouth and an attention whore, so there was probably more to their annoyance that what was shown.

Not sure how spoiler-friendly this thread is supposed to be but at least one of your wishes will come true! Not really a spoiler because the show has already self-spoiled it on Instagram but Tiziano Ferro will make a special appearance. Other big names will cameo or guest-judge as well, although they're legendary locally and unknown to the international audience. That's the trouble, many LGBTQ+ celebrities\allies\reference points who are beloved and cherished here are nobodies abroad while there are big names known internationally who we may see as has-beens, right-wingers, just not that iconic\too iconic for a gig on Discovery+ or a bad fit for a queer show. I'm glad the show has an unmistakable homegrown flavour though. I'm already shaking thinking of what the queens came up with for Snatch Game.
Thanks for the explanation of the theme song. I didn’t know it was so famous to dub cartoon theme songs in Italian? I never knew this at all. How strange and cute!

I still think them going after Enorma just because she told another queen to SLAY her lip sync or eat up her opponent is not that big of a deal? It’s just her instilling some confidence in the girl that’s it. But yeah there’s probably more to the beef the girls had with Enorma that we didn’t see on screen.

For those of you who speak (or understand) italian, we had a room yesterday on Clubhouse with guest Ava Hangar, Priscilla and Tommaso, you can re-listen to it here:

Can you ask Tommaso why he felt it was okay to use the N word on live national TV? And showed no remorse about it.

The clip going around is a sneaky edit of him saying something like "I'm appalled people still use n**** in 2020", and he's actually been more vocal on some race issues than the average Italian influencer/citizen. While we can agree the word shouldn't be used no matter the circumstance and that Zorzi is a moron, using slurs for "reporting" purposes is still seen as acceptable in Italy, not only in informal speech but also on TV, in newspapers, in books and so on. Solutions like "n-word" or "f-word" are seen by many as excessive and a bit... Anglo-American (as proven by the fact it's more common for people who try to avoid the word in all contexts to say "n-word" directly in English rather than the corresponding Italian "parola con la N").

I will enjoy watching this when it's no longer part three of a ~4 hour stretch but am still enjoying this. It was good to hear some proper critiques this week.

I know she's a divisive figure in the house, but Enorma makes for captivating TV and it doesn't read as especially put on. There's also something almost therapeutic about her being so confident and self-assured in a cast which is carrying so much baggage. Would love to hear more Italian perspectives on the dynamic and energy here. As a first gen migrant, it's bittersweet how familiar their conflict feels.

Love your podcast @Leogin even if it pushes my Italian to its limits.

I been screaming at the Enorma drama since the first episode and now it looks like it’s going full force into the third.

Are the girls acting? Cause is it really that SERIOUS?!

The second episode was not as brilliant as the first (mostly the edit, everything bar rehearsals was unbelievably slow), so far I'm liking the series more than I expected but I think going forward the way is more episodes but shorter (1 hour would be perfect).

I have to say I was quite disappointed by Ava's performance this week. Going into the season she looked like the queen with the absurdist humour that I like, but her ad was a bit cringe. On the opposite side of the spectrum the younger queens are all exceeding expectations. They have the best looks by far (Farida is the new Violet naur its chew), and they've also proved they're not afraid of getting goofy (I loved Divinity's lip sync and Elektra's ad was very solid).

I'm very interested in what Enorma's villain edit will bring her, 1/3 into the season I think this is going to be our Top 4.

Thank you!
It's not a real podcast, it's more some sort of live audio show I guess. Yesterday we had our second episode discussion with Le Riche and the head of Drag Race Italia Dimitri Cocciuti. Ava Hangar came back and we had also a special appearance from Divinity and special guest judge of episode 2 Fabio Mollo.

I enjoyed the second episode but as @Kuhleezi said it was too slow. Elecktra was my top choice of the week

It was great to hear Priscilla / Mariano speak so candidly about the recording process and having to maintain a professional distance between themselves and the Queens. Their humility and genuine affection for the Queens is evident, which I think comes across well when delivering critiques. After Fred, she might be my new fave host.

Mariano is so kind and so humble, everyone involved in the project is giving 100% to promote it and you can tell that they want this to succeed so much.

Another interesting point is that the fact that there will be only 6 episode is because of WoW contract, it seems like the first season has to be a short one 6/8 episode max.

She/Her/Queen
There will be only 6 episodes and they’ve only eliminated one person so far?

That episode felt like it never wanted to end. It’s like someone forgot to edit the show? Did the Tiziano introduction again during judging need to be that long? And then showing everybody’s critic?

And what’s with the “Attention!” box popping up before and after the drama. I’m confused. So Enorma’s blow up happened after the end of the show or during untucked?

Was the truck driver comment that serious for Ava when she continually served butch queen realness and has that same face on during lip sync, runway etc.?

Why am I watching this?
