Early 2000s Rock Chicks Rate - [WINNER + Voter Averages]

Discussion in 'Charts, rates etc' started by slaybellz, Mar 1, 2021.

  1. I consider P!nk to be a bit older than those 4. Vanessa, Michelle, Avril and Stacie were all around the same age.

P!nk is only one year older than Michelle Branch. Maybe you feel this way because P!nk’s first album was R&B.
  3. Michelle is 37, P!nk is 41. And mostly because in the beginning she sang with Xtina, which was from the 1999-2000s generation. Even when P!nk is more rock, but somehow I can't connect her with the other 4. But yeah, in general from the 2000s she's probably the biggest exponent of female pop rock, with Avril.

  4. Stacie Iconrrico having 2 songs in the Rock Chicks rate that aren't at all rocky and getting them both into the top 12.

    That's talent.

    Kelly Clarkson - Breakaway

    Score: 9.064

    My Score: 8
    Highest: 11 x 2 (@BubblegumBoy, @AlmostFamous) 10 x 17 (@Sprockrooster, @Phonetics Girl, @theincredibleflipper, @soratami, @livefrommelbs, @DJHazey, @Daniel_O, @fatyoshi, @Blond, @pop3blow2, @ohnostalgia, @Slice of Life, @aux, @phily693, @Memoria, @Guy, @Music Is Death)
    Lowest: 4.5 x 1 (@Verandi) 6 x 1 (@saviodxl) 6.5 x 1 (@Ana Raquel)

Breakaway was the first single from Kelly's second album of the same name. It was released in 2004 and charted at #6 in the US.

The song was written by Avril Lavigne and was originally intended for her debut album. But after not making the album, the song was passed onto Kelly to be recorded for The Princess Diaries 2 soundtrack. However, the song's success prompted its inclusion on her second album where she decided to name the album after the song.

@berserkboi (7) - Sadly this was never a fave from Kelly, it’s just nice! In a discography like hers, nice just isn’t enough!

@Memoria (10) - The only thing wrong this this song is that Kelly herself doesn't like it.

@Sprockrooster (10) - A life anthem to be honest. Avril and Kelly did that. There are actual big moments in life – living on my own – choosing my college – living together with my now boyfriend and I can’t help but feel listening to this very track. Kelly has no idea how influential this track probably is.

@DJHazey (10) - Alot of these early Kelly hits haven’t stood the test of time as well I’d like or certainly the rest of these voters will like, but this one literally doesn’t age, spoiler, weather, or deteriorate in any manner.

@BubblegumBoy (11) - I’ve always been a Kelly fan. I think this was one of the songs that really got me into her. It was released at a time where I was first developing my pop tastes and it’s been a defining song in my life. I’ll always have special memories attached to this song.

  6. Top 10

    Avril Lavigne - Complicated
Avril Lavigne - I'm With You
Avril Lavigne - My Happy Ending
    Alanis Morissette - Hands Clean

    Michelle Branch - Everywhere
Michelle Branch - All You Wanted
Kelly Clarkson - Since U Been Gone
Kelly Clarkson - Behind These Hazel Eyes
    Hilary Duff - Come Clean
Stacie Orrico - (There's Gotta Be) More To Life

And with that every artist left has lost at least one song!
What are people's ideal Top 10 order?

  7. Breakaway is a wonderful song, that I strongly relate to. Honestly every single second of the lyrics hits like a truck. I truly feel like I could have written the first verse word for word dddd. And now that I suddenly have the chance to move to LA in the nearish future, the song hits even more. I'm certain the song will soundtrack my life for a while, especially if I finally make it out of this damn town.

Honestly? The top 10 is pretty perfect, though there are a few songs I would have liked to see in it. Hoping for this for top 5:

    Top 5

Avril Lavigne - I'm With You
Avril Lavigne - My Happy Ending

    Michelle Branch - Everywhere
Kelly Clarkson - Since U Been Gone
Kelly Clarkson - Behind These Hazel Eyes
But honestly, as long as my 11 is in there, and it has at least one song by Kelly, Michelle and Avril, I'll be very very happy.
  8. Based on my scores when voting, I'd like:

    10. Avril Lavigne - Complicated
    7. Avril Lavigne - I'm With You
    4. Avril Lavigne - My Happy Ending
    1. Alanis Morissette - Hands Clean

    2. Michelle Branch - Everywhere
    8. Michelle Branch - All You Wanted
    3. Kelly Clarkson - Since U Been Gone
    5. Kelly Clarkson - Behind These Hazel Eyes
    9. Hilary Duff - Come Clean
    6. Stacie Orrico - (There's Gotta Be) More To Life

Seems pretty right to me even now!
  9. They’re all 9s and above for me so as long as my 11 isn’t the next to leave, it’s plain sailing from here

I love some Kelly bangers, but Breakaway is not of them!

I wouldn't mind if the top 5 is only Avril + Michelle filled, but I guess we'll see 5 artists in there! Let's see...
  12. Haha I wish I would have thought of this gif for this elimination.

  14. 1. I'm With You
    2. Behind These Hazel Eyes
    3. (There's Gotta Be) More To Life

These are sure to make an appearance on my list when Ultimate 2000s Justice happens, I haven't forgotten!
  15. Finally. Even if the production was good, I just can't with the X Factor winner-esque lyrics, sorry y'all! The way I just skip to track 2 when I listen to the album nn.

As for the ideal Top 5, in no order:

Avril Lavigne - I'm With You
    Alanis Morissette - Hands Clean

    Michelle Branch - Everywhere
Kelly Clarkson - Behind These Hazel Eyes
    Hilary Duff - Come Clean

So one track for each artist, that would be ideal, but I just know that Since U Been Gone and Complicated will be the Top2 so I will deal.

  16. I don't know I just still enjoy "Breakaway" so much more today than I do the other two Kelly songs here. A Top 10 order that will never happen:

    10. Since U Been Gone
    9. Behind These Hazel Eyes
    8. Complicated
    7. My Happy Ending
    6. I'm With You
    5. Come Clean
    4. Everywhere
    3. Hands Clean
    2. There's Gotta Be More to Life
    1. All You Wanted
Memoria, LKane and slaybellz like this.
  17. Wait you just gained so many points with me. I know it's not gonna happen but I would LOVE to see it.

Hmmmm I'm not sure. Yes both are iconic but I feel like everyone recognizes that I'm With You and Behind These Hazel Eyes are the better songs - and dare I say, at least in Avril's case, more iconic? Of course, there's the possibility of balladphobia so who knows.

Also, would love it if Hands Clean did make the top 5 to make up for my dumbass not giving it just a little more time and not giving it a 10. It's fucking amazing.

Hands Clean survived!!!! Thanks to all of you with taste.
  19. I just hope my 6 and 7 leaves. The rest of the top is super solid.

  20. I love me some Avril but she is so awkward dd

That infamous interview aside, this Japanese segment with ex AKB idol Tomomi often sends me.

Tomo: I’ve been listening to your music since high school, I love you!

    Avril: ...arigato.

    Avril: -listens to her music-
