Early 2000s Rock Chicks Rate

he/him
I'm baffled at those three being the first to go when the Canadian list has actual bad songs (near the bottom of it) and I scored them accordingly. Especially the Skye cull but unlike her masterpiece "Unpredictable" I see that some of you are as predictable as you always will be.

- The artist with the biggest gap between their top song and bottom song is Canadian

Ok this had better be Skye Sweetnam.

So far I lost one 5 and two 7s. Billy S. and Number One aren't anything groundbreaking, but they're cute, I really don't get why some people have so many issues with Skye Sweetnam, like she's that different from a bunch of the other artists here.

Anyway, these were my negative scores here so I'm hoping some/all of them get eliminated soon (I know one of them won't but let me dream):

Fefe Dobson - Everything
Alexz Johnson - Let Me Fall
Amanda Marshall - Double Agent
Amanda Marshall - Sunday Morning After
Bif Naked - I Love Myself Today
Lindsay Lohan - Confessions of a Broken Heart (Daughter to Father)

@slaybellz you forgot my commentary about Billy S.

New page with some French Pop Rock amazingness for you!
I think Carla is more folk than pop-rock, not enough pipes.

More "French Pop Rock amazingness" !

Diadems - Encore (2003)

Emma Daumas - Tu Seras (2004)

Sita - Ce Qui Nous Rend Fous (2004)

Don't forget about French Canada!
Andrée Watters - Si Exceptionnel (2003) ‎

Ariane Moffatt - Le Cœur Dans La Tête (2005)

I gotta check all those Fefe Dobson's songwriting credits.

I love what you had to say about Skye, so I'm going to let the fact that you're calling for Confessions pass, for now. So let's not make it a habit.

Bif Naked - I Love Myself Today

20/24

Score: 6.674

My Score: 7.5
Highest: 10 x 2 (@Phonetics Girl, @Music Is Death)
Lowest: 1 x 1 (@Daniel_O) 2 x 2 (@Blond, @londonrain)

I Love Myself Today was released in 2001 and was the lead single to Bif's 4th album Purge. Although she started out in the 90s, this song was my introduction to her. It's just one of those songs and videos I remember constantly seeing on TV, with a chorus that was always stuck in my head.

Bif Naked was actually born in New Delhi, India, to teenage parents attending private school. She was subsequently adopted by American missionaries, and spent part of her early childhood in the US, where her father was a professor at the University of Kentucky. Her family eventually settled in Winnipeg, Canada, which is where she grew up and started out her career, so we claim her. Between 1996 and 2016, Bif was among the top 150 selling Canadian artists in Canada.

@DJHazey (6.75) - I know I’ve heard of this band before, which is confirmed by hearing this raucous chorus just once. In some ways it’s cute and in other ways it’s kind of lame. Wouldn’t request it, wouldn’t leave either, but I won’t be sad when it kicks the can.

@unnameable (7.5) - I prefer “Lucky”.

@livefrommelbs (7.5) - Let Down is the one for me when it comes to Bif, but I don't hate this.

@berserkboi (8.5) - This should be a Berserky repellent but Bif carries this with such gusto - I have no qualms here!

@Sprockrooster (9.5) - This will be stuck(.mp3) in my head all day and I do not mind.

@Memoria (9) - This is truly a blast from the past. Emphasis on the "blast". A self-empowering banger from long before I even knew what that meant.

I can't properly convey how much I love you posting the Andrée Watters song! I remember it getting some airtime on radio that year, and it took me a decade to find it... only for me to forget about it again nn.

Unrelated, but Emma Daumas was one of my very first concerts. It's quite random as it happened in my hometown which is anything but the place to be events wise nn. Maybe it was at the time though, as other Star Academy alumnis came to play there as well. Anyway, I'm not sure if I managed to hear her album since, but I remember the album tracks popping off live as well.

The nostalgia these cuts bring me...

This is bound to be another rate of my suffering, huh...

I'm into I Love Myself today for the attitude but the one song from Purge I'm really obsessed with is Dawn, which appeared in the dubiously ironic sequel of American Psycho with Mila Kunis.

My other two faves are, unsurprisingly, more ballad-y:

Alexz Johnson - Let Me Fall

Score: 6.785

My Score: 7
Highest: 10 x 2 (@Slice of Life, @Music Is Death)
Lowest: 3 x 1 (@Blond) 4 x 3 (@soratami, @2014, @londonrain)

Let Me Fall is from the soundtrack of the first season of Canadian hit tv show Instant Star starring singer-songwriter and actress Alexz Johnson. Instant Star was about a teen girl who wins an X Factor / American Idol type talent show and her journey as a recording artist from that point on. Balancing growing up and the ins and outs of the music industry.

They would "write" and perform the songs in the episodes and they would all eventually end up on the soundtracks. I was obsessed with this show as a teen ya'll. Like i'm talking, would DVR all the episodes just so I could rewatch them over and over again. It's how I became an Alexz Johnson stan and honestly if she was more popular I would do an Instant Star / Alexz Johnson rate in a heartbeat. But we'll talk about her solo career in her next elimination.

I always knew 24 Hours would make the list but I had a hard time choosing what her 2nd song would be. Still don't know if I made the right choice. I think the soundtracks for the seasons that followed are much better but released after 2005. Anyway, if your into soapy teen dramas from the 00s definitely check it out, all 4 seasons have been uploaded for free on YouTube.

@DJHazey (5.25) - I was going to say this is even worse than 24 Hours because it’s more boring, but it eventually settles into basically the same category.

@livefrommelbs (7.5) - I don't dislike Alexz's songs in the rate at all, but they're not quite as impactful as some of the other gals.

@berserkboi (8.5) - Another lovely discovery - I think?

@Sprockrooster (9) - If this was on Under My Skin I would have believed you too. Amazing.
