Lindsay Lohan - First

20/24

Score: 7.217

My Score: 7.5
Highest: 10 x 4 (@DJHazey, @Milotic, @unnameable, @Music Is Death)
Lowest: 2 x 1 (@berserkboi)

First was the third and final single from Lindsay's debut album Speak. It was released in 2005 to promote her Disney film Herbie: Fully Loaded, and also appeared on its soundtrack. The single failed to chart in the US, however, it was successful in many other countries.

I always thought this song was about her alleged feud with Hilary Duff over Aaron Carter but when I did some research to back up this claim I found literally nothing about it. So I guess not!

@berserkboi (2) - Look at that Skye Sweetnam! You are getting some company in the Negative Vortex!

@Pineapple (6) - Really not my favourite from Lindsay’s debut, but it’s okay. ‘Over’ is so much better.

@livefrommelbs (7.5) - This being here when 'Over' isn't is a bit of an OUTCRY, teebs. I've never liked this one as much as most of the rest of the album.

@saviodxl (8) - I always thought this became a single just to promote the movie it is part of and it works fine for a Disney artist attempt at doing pop rock. But at the same time I live for the guitar riffs in the first seconds of the song and in the post-chorus, and also for Lindsay blond version.

@Memoria (9) - Definitely not my favourite from this album but it's still a bop.

@unnameable (10) - Fantastic opener to a good album.

@DJHazey (10) - If I could give another 11 it’d be for this, if only for the fact that I feel the need eternally apologize to Lindsay for sleeping on her music, like forever. Seriously, I’m like one of the Disney-Pop OGs around here, but it took until the Lindsay/Ashlee rate on this forum for me to dive into her albums. I came out the other side as a changed music listener -- This. Woman. Slays. ‘First’ in particular slaps. In fact, I don’t think I ever recovered my wig since the day I initially played it for that rate.

@Sprockrooster (9) - Her belting in the outro is a match with those roaring guitars is something I am here for! The way she was destroyed in Disney princesses rate was so hurtful I could not bring myself adding her to the zeroes poprock rate. A regret in hindsight. She should have been vindicated. Maybe this rate will do so. I surely hope so.

First and Over are cute but Rumors is the one! We were robbed of her faux-Dirrty album teebs.

I always thought this song was about her alleged feud with Hilary Duff over Aaron Carter but when I did some research to back up this claim I found literally nothing about it. So I guess not!
This is a kii because Hilary lowkey described Aaron as a stalker a couple of years ago nn

Looking at the top 40, it's such a solid list I can't complain too much. The one thing I'd like is for one or two of Queen Avril's songs to depart, but seeing as
a)this rate pretty much owes its existence to her impact on early 2000s culture
b) The Avril songs I don't enjoy are probably going to be given 10s and 11s by people who were helped through rough emotional patches by that one Avril song that expressed their angst .
c) not many people wanting to tank Avril
I think she may be safe for a bit yet. But will she get enough points to win?

Jennifer Love Hewitt - BareNaked

8bit-USAFlag.png

19/24

Score: 7.381

My Score: 8.5
Highest: 10 x 6 (@berserkboi, @saviodxl, @unnameable, @Slice of Life, @Robsolete, @Music Is Death)
Lowest: 3 x 1 (@Blond) 4 x 1 (@Guy) 4.5 x 1 (@Sprockrooster)

BareNaked is the lead single to Jennifer's fourth and final album of the same name (co-written and produced by Meredith Brooks, cool!) It was released in 2002 and charted at #124 in the US.

Although, most people probably know Jennifer Love Hewitt for her acting career, music was actually her first love. At the age of 10, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue a music career, but instead rose to prominence as an actress in commercials and on the 80s children's tv series Kids Incorporated (alongside co-stars such as Fergie and Martika). Since then she's released four studio albums and some singles here and there for soundtracks of movies and shows she appeared in like How Do I Deal from I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, which was released in 1998 (to answer your question @livefrommelbs dd).

@Memoria (6) - I have no memory of Jennifer Love Hewitt ever having a music career. But hearing this, I wouldn't be surprised if I did actually know about it, but just forgot.

@Sprockrooster (4.5) - She sounds bored?

@livefrommelbs (8) - Where's 'How Do I Deal'?! Anyway, this is a cutie.

@DJHazey (6.5) - I feel bad giving my Mom’s favorite actress such mediocre scores, don’t tell her! I vaguely remember seeing this on TRL some time after loving her in I Know What You Did Last Summer (and stanning her) with my first reaction being LOL. I don’t know if I’ve ever taken it seriously since, I can’t help it. (By the way my Mom stans her because of Ghost Whisperer and Hallmark movies, so yeah your prototypical Mom)

@unnameable (10) - Oh sweet PJ00s entry of mine that flopped. I love JLH’s music.

@berserkboi (10) - I know this is technically weaker than my other 10s but I stanned so hard at the time, Barenaked must get its full score!

@saviodxl (10) - Jlove deserved better! But I guess when she emerged the pop-rock girls market was already saturated.

@Epic Chocolat (8.5) - How many times am I gonna have the chance to rate this bop? The time is now, carpe diem! With the songwriting help of a 90s rock chick, Meredith Brooks, Love was "the moment" however fleeting this moment was.
