Early 2000s Rock Chicks Rate

Are You Happy Now...not in the top 10? WHAT?! It's Michelle's second best song here! (Though of course, splitting hairs, all 10s, etc.) I don't understand how anyone couldn't be taken in by the massice production and stormer of a chorus. The bridge is absolute perfection, and her vocals are top notch too. Her perfromance is just so perfect. The anger she infuses nearly every breath she takes and word she speaks I just...amazing. Y'all are WRONG for this.
I love Dont Let Me Get Me, but I'm not surprised nor upset it missed the top 10. It is another classic and a 10 for me, and I love it, but I do feel like it'd miss out on my personal top 10 of this rate so again...just some really stiff competition. There have been times when I related just a little too much to the lyrics, and the song can't play without me completely jamming to the production though.
Breathe is of course wonderful, but is a song I already said I'd be okay with missing the top 10, so I'm okay with this placement, though it really should be at least top 15. I think it's pretty much perfect, which just goes to show how tough the competition is here. Again, the chorus is perfection, and the song itself truly is very soothing. The more I listen to it, the more upset I get about it not being placed a little higher at least ddd.
Honestly surprised Nobody's Home missed the top 10? I thought it was one of her most beloved songs on here. I'm not entirely mad about it though, it would miss out on mine, mostly cause of the lack of that nostalgia her other songs her hold for me. It is an amazing song though. There's nothing about it that can be faulted.

Gonna take a moment to do some promo! Rate adjacent icons Aly & AJ released their first full album since 2007 today, and it is perfection! There are some pop-rock moments to be found, so if you haven't yet, I definitely think you should give it a listen.

And an album I literally just listened to, by an artist I just found out existed! Posting it here because if you're a fan of the women and songs in this rate, I think you'll really like this. The artist is super young (18 I believe) but the writing is fairly strong in places, and her voice and tone are great. Would definitely recommend it to @Phonetics Girl @pop3blow2 @DJHazey @ohnostalgia and @livefrommelbs

It’s funny to me that @DJHazey thinks of Nobody’s Home as more of a hidden gem, when the single was all over Canadian radio and Much Music (as you can tell by the chart data @slaybellz posted). Did it not do as well in the US?

I’m desperately hoping that Hands Clean reaches top ten and that some of you researched what Alanis is writing about. It’s hard to tell with the music video, but Hands Clean is a really important track with lyrics that went over my head when I was younger. Now that I’m older and understand the full context, it’s devastating.

Yeah Nobody's Home was actually her highest charting song of the era in Canada, but it only charted at #41 in the US.

The music video played so much on MuchMusic that I have that image of her in that awful wig forever wedged in my brain, to the point where any time I see another white girl in a bad black wig I think of that video dd. Hence the gif I chose.

Agreed - the narrative behind the song is so powerful.

Yes dd. Did it confuse you? If so? Mission accomplished.
Yes it did dddd. I was like "Oh, Kristen Stewart in Runaways" (I think? I haven't actually seen it despite being a huge fan of hers unironically) but then I remembered the video, and was like "wait what?" Even though she doesn't really look like Avril I was very confused, and actually decided it was gif from the video but I'm just a dumbass so...it's fine.

Haha! That's funny. I actually think they do look a bit alike.
