Natalie Imbruglia is a singer-songwriter and actress from Australia, most notably known for her 90s world smash, Torn (which I just learned is a cover???)

Wrong Impression was the second single from Natalie's second studio album White Lilies Island. It was released in 2002 and charted at #33 in Australia.

Fun fact: White Lilies Island was the first album to include copy protection software on compact disc pressings, though the software was later removed due to consumer and industrial outcry surrounding unintended technical faults.

@Sprockrooster (7) - Outside of Torn I have to say I do not see the mass appeal some people have for Natalie. This did not exactly persuade me.

@unnameable (8) - My big sister loved “White Lilies Island” and played it on repeat, so I’ve heard this song enough. I like the song though.

@Memoria (8) - It's always hard not to make comparisons to the brilliance of Torn, but this song is better than I remembered it. It seems I had...the wrong impression (last shit joke I promise).

@DJHazey (8.25) - I remember how I had her debut album way back and decided to hear all of her other albums, but surprisingly none of it really stuck. I was alot more picky with my pop choices back then too, so I definitely think whenever her discography rate hits, I’ll try again. Songs like this one make that idea seem more positive by the second.

@Epic Chocolat (9.1) - Always a pleasure to hear this song again.

@berserkboi (9.5) - Beautiful but That Day or Beauty On The Fire would have been straight up 11s instead.

@livefrommelbs (9.5) - God, Natalie has SUCH a pretty voice. I really enjoyed re-listening to this for the first time in years.

And with that we lose our last Extra and last song under a 9 point average. Not bad for a section with only 5 songs!

I’m desperately hoping that Hands Clean reaches top ten and that some of you researched what Alanis is writing about. It’s hard to tell with the music video, but Hands Clean is a really important track with lyrics that went over my head when I was younger. Now that I’m older and understand the full context, it’s devastating.
Also, this is 100% tea. Hands Clean is a masterclass in songwriting. Some of the best lyrics ever written, in fact.

Anyone who has given it less than a 10 should honestly retire from voting in rates.

I’m extremely shocked at Nobody’s Home going before the Top 10, it’s so dark and goes so hard in the chorus, it’s integral to the entire album/era. The outro of “she’s lost inside” is classic Avril and my favourite part.

I was reminiscing with my sister about how much of a Missundaztood fan she was and how she thought she was edgy or being rebellious for liking something like that. Then I stanned Breakaway and Under My Skin a few years later and thought the same thing and that I was so cool for liking a rockier sound. Clearly taste runs in the family. As does delusion and lack of self-awareness apparently.

P!nk - Just Like A Pill

8/24

Score: 9.001

My Score: 8.5
Highest: 10 x 22 (@Sprockrooster, @theincredibleflipper, @soratami, @livefrommelbs, @yeRleDanaL, @berserkboi, @2014, @Daniel_O, @saviodxl, @fatyoshi, @BubblegumBoy, @unnameable, @Blond, @Hurricane Drunk, @Pineapple, @ohnostalgia, @Robsolete, @AlmostFamous, @phily693, @Memoria, @Guy, @Music Is Death)

Just Like A Pill was the third single from P!nk's second studio album M!ssundaztood. It was released in 2002 and charted at #8 in the US. It also performed well internationally, reaching #1 in the UK and Scotland, as well as Top 10 in twelve other countries.

@DJHazey (7.75) - I was never so big on P!nk, like at anytime. Alot of her big singles either passed me by, I’d be just aware of them in passing, or I’d eventually like one of their remixes during my formative dance-loving years. I’m not even that huge on the Cascada cover of this song, which actually says alot because it’s basically the same song over Eurodance instrumentals. That being said, I could never deny this was a catchy little tune.

@Pineapple (10) - Not a huge fan of P!nk but she got it right with this.

@unnameable (10) - Most “love as a drug” metaphor songs are cliched and boring. This one isn’t, it packs a punch and has clever lyrical twists.

@Memoria (10) - Pre-2005 this would've been in my top 10 all-time favourite songs. Even now I can still remember the clean version played on music channels where they changed "bitch" to "switch", and how she couldn't stay on their life support because "[repeated itch line]". Genius.

@Sprockrooster (10) - The way this triumph managed to win the P!nk discography rate had me shook. Who Knew is an obvious winner as it did marvellously before in versus rate, but it actually only shows the strength of the discography from P!nk. Just Like A Pill despite being a shock winner then is still a fantastic deserved accomplishment. For my poprockrate I added I’m Not Dead with the wildcard being ‘Last To Know’ and it is sad to see it not here, but I did wonder what would have happened if I added Just Like A Pill then cause it might have won. But then Who Knew would have not been a double rate winner. Maybe this rate can make Just Like A Pill a double rate winner. Definitely here for it!

@livefrommelbs (10) - Easily one of P!nk's best. Miss slaybellz really hit it out of the park with the two P!nk choices for this rate. That chorus is undeniable.

@berserkboi (10) - Perfect song really?
