Breakaway was the first single from Kelly's second album of the same name. It was released in 2004 and charted at #6 in the US.

The song was written by Avril Lavigne and was originally intended for her debut album. But after not making the album, the song was passed onto Kelly to be recorded for The Princess Diaries 2 soundtrack. However, the song's success prompted its inclusion on her second album where she decided to name the album after the song.

@Memoria (10) - The only thing wrong this this song is that Kelly herself doesn't like it.

@Sprockrooster (10) - A life anthem to be honest. Avril and Kelly did that. There are actual big moments in life – living on my own – choosing my college – living together with my now boyfriend and I can’t help but feel listening to this very track. Kelly has no idea how influential this track probably is.

@DJHazey (10) - Alot of these early Kelly hits haven’t stood the test of time as well I’d like or certainly the rest of these voters will like, but this one literally doesn’t age, spoiler, weather, or deteriorate in any manner.

@livefrommelbs (10) - I LOVE THIS SONG AND I WILL NEVER STOP LOVING THIS SONG

@BubblegumBoy (11) - I’ve always been a Kelly fan. I think this was one of the songs that really got me into her. It was released at a time where I was first developing my pop tastes and it’s been a defining song in my life. I’ll always have special memories attached to this song.

Breakaway is a wonderful song, that I strongly relate to. Honestly every single second of the lyrics hits like a truck. I truly feel like I could have written the first verse word for word dddd. And now that I suddenly have the chance to move to LA in the nearish future, the song hits even more. I'm certain the song will soundtrack my life for a while, especially if I finally make it out of this damn town.

Honestly? The top 10 is pretty perfect, though there are a few songs I would have liked to see in it. Hoping for this for top 5:

Hmmmm I'm not sure. Yes both are iconic but I feel like everyone recognizes that I'm With You and Behind These Hazel Eyes are the better songs - and dare I say, at least in Avril's case, more iconic? Of course, there's the possibility of balladphobia so who knows.

Also, would love it if Hands Clean did make the top 5 to make up for my dumbass not giving it just a little more time and not giving it a 10. It's fucking amazing.
