All You Wanted was the second single from Michelle's major-label debut album The Spirit Room. It was released in 2001 and charted at #6 in the US, surpassing the peak of her debut single Everywhere on the Billboard Hot 100. However, it did not match the success of Everywhere internationally, underperforming in Europe and stalling inside the Top 30 in Australia.

The video was also nominated for Best Female Video and Best Pop Video at the 2002 MTV VMAs. Losing out to Pink's Get The Party Started and No Doubt's Hey Baby respectively.

@Sprockrooster (9) - The way this not only managed a 9,0+ average in the zeroes poprockrate I hosted, but also a top 10 placement. I have to say I was quite shook. Definitely a force to be reckoned with and a song proving strong longevity. She clearly was not a one hit wonder for us PJ – despite the general public thinking so.

@berserkboi (9) - Beautiful track!

@unnameable (10) - Pure angsty perfection.

@livefrommelbs (10) - Probably my fave Michelle track. The chorus is just magical.

@Memoria (11) - After much deliberation, I had to give this song my 11. It has everything I love about this era - it's got great vocals, a somehow moody-yet-uplifting vibe, all the guitars, a huge middle 8 and most importantly, a big fat anthemic chorus.

@DJHazey (11) - Sometimes I’m going to give an underdog a chance or a song that I feel like I haven’t given as much attention to when choosing my 11. That time is not today. This is a masterpiece, people. Everyone needs to know this. Feel it. Believe it. Pray about it. It’s God tier. I hear God. It alleviated headaches, heartaches, hell even toothaches. It ended droughts, prevented natural disasters, negotiated for world peace, promoted clear skin, and illuminated the light at the end of all tunnels. It solved the pandemic, I’m pretty sure I have sources that claim it was playing in the vaccine laboratories. I want it played at my funeral and the lyrics buried with me. The song means everything to me and it would make my life to see it finally win one of these damn things! Make it happen! <3

I'm kinda here for the very mathematically pleasing Top 6. 2+1 songs for Canada, 2+1 songs for the US mmmh yes @pop3blow2 come stan numbers with me.

A perfect Top 3 would be:

Avril Lavigne - I'm With You
Alanis Morissette - Hands Clean
Kelly Clarkson - Behind These Hazel Eyes

So I'm hoping the next three cuts will be:

Avril Lavigne - Complicated (I know it won the Avril rate but I find it much inferior to I'm With You so...)
Kelly Clarkson - Since U Been Gone (Same but with Hazel Eyes)
Stacie Orrico - (There's Gotta Be) More To Life (She's a cute girl but the top 5 should be a place for legends teebs)
Also @Robsolete and @ohnostalgia let's form a prayer circle for Hands Clean to reach the Top 5 pls.

Rock N Roll won the Avril rate. I’m with You was robbed. Possibly because there were no 11’s allowed in that rate. I think Complicated just barely scraped the top 5.

I’m with You should have won the Avril rate. I’m with You should win this rate. I’m with You should win every rate. I’m with You is the greatest pop ballad song of all time.

Okay but Rock n Roll still stands as one of the biggest pleasant surprise winners in Popjustice Rate herstory and all voters pretty much agreed on that sentiment at the time. Don't take that away from it.

Also I knew my 11 would crash out before the Top 5 and all these slightly to moderately overrated songs would fill it up what is left. Go Avril I guess though.

I...

Also none of the people scoring it below a 9 saying why. I guess we know why. Cause you can't articulate an argument to give it below a 9. So you bunch of trolls, expose them @slaybellz.

Okay! Below a 9 you say? The rest would be these four:

@Hurricane Drunk (8)
@ohnostalgia (8)
@Epic Chocolat (7.5)
@londonrain (8)

Also I believe this was the last song left not to receive any 11s.

I prefer my Avril more mellow, less acrimonious. I have no recollection of My Happy Ending being a single, I only associate it with a Gilmore Girls episode where Dean's sister plays it.
The lyrics heard, All this time you were pretending So much for my happy ending You were everything, everything that I wanted We were meant to be, supposed to be being a reflection of the state of Dean and Rory's relationship.

I wanted to answer to Sprockrooster with a long rant but today I chose peace and stayed matter-of-fact. I'll write this action in my gratitude journal.

Avril Lavigne - Complicated

2/24

Score: 9.314

My Score: 10
Highest: 11 x 2 (@Hurricane Drunk, @Ana Raquel) 10 x 16 (@theincredibleflipper, @soratami, @livefrommelbs, @yeRleDanaL, @BubblegumBoy, @unnameable, @Blond, @Pineapple, @ohnostalgia, @Slice of Life, @Robsolete, @phily693, @Memoria, @Guy, @Music Is Death)

Complicated was Avril's debut single and the lead from her debut album Let Go. It was released in 2002 and went straight to #1 in Canada. It also went Top 3 in several other countries. Based on its chart performance, the song is her second most successful single, after Girlfriend.

Complicated is another song in the rate co-written and produced by The Matrix. It was nominated for two Grammy Awards for Song of the Year and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.

@berserkboi (8.5) - These lyrics have never been fully relatable for an old fart like me but I’ve always loved this melody!

@DJHazey (8.5) - There’s no denying this will always be a classic, a generational anthem, a cultural reset, you name it. I got into her music late and used to blast this daily, but unlike 90% of her discography, it started to wear on me little by little and reached ‘overplayed’ status. Now it’s more like a cherished relic than something I actively get my life to.

@saviodxl (8.8) - Perhaps a defining generation's song and video of what it was like to be a teenager in the early 2000s.

@Sprockrooster (9) - Nostalgia in it’s purest form.

@unnameable (10) - Gives me fond memories of searching through HMV for CD singles, trying to find the best one of Complicated.

@livefrommelbs (10) - Where it all began. We've reached that point where enough time has passed that this feels like a proper classic now, the way songs like 'Baby One More Time' and 'Genie in A Bottle' do. It's a throwback that hasn't lost any of its magic.

@Memoria (10) - Quite literally a cultural reset. I think it happens exactly at the moment of the "TELL ME-EEE!!!" right before the final chorus.

@Pineapple (10) - All hit and no miss from Avril here. The perfect pop-rock song.

@Ana Raquel (11) - I don't think there is another choice here. This might not even be my favorite song on the rate, but it's the one that made the biggest impact on me, being an AMV fan and having most of my taste molded from it. Also, once I recorded the clip of Complicated at the wrong VHS so my Tom & Jerry vhs had a complicated moment in the middle of an episode ddd iconic.
