Ellie Goulding - Higher Than Heaven

Can’t help but admit that pushing the album back knowing they’ve got a hit on their hands wasn’t a bad move at all

Said hit not being on the album they pushed back though

This song is insane - I’ve been playing it at least 20 times in a row and I still want more.

I’m quite surprised they’ve come up with something that clever but they’ve nailed it - song of 2023.

I don't think anyone is saying it is groundbreaking but bringing a lot of memories drinking frosty jacks on the swings at the local park in the rain. Just me?
Maybe I'm misinterpreting the reactions here. To me it's just another bland variation of something that's been done a billion times. Sure, it's catchy, and well done, but it's on the same level as the countless same-sounding piano house tunes that flooded radio waves for the past 4 years.

Ι think you and me being Bulgarian / Greek means we're not emotionally attached to the genre as much UK people do - as it was THE defining 'we're not kids anymore!!' sound for a generation or two back in the late 90s / early 00s. So the nostalgia isn't nostalging for us but it is for our UK lads and ladettes here.

He/Him
And Irish too. I’ve been sending this to friends and they’re instantly obsessed with it.

I know it’s been done a thousand times and I could just listen to old stuff but I’d actually forgotten how much I love this sound so hadn’t played it for years. I think there’s definitely an air of nostalgia kicking in when people hear it.

I just need an extended mix now.

The ease with which he's nailed trance reminds me quite a bit of I'm Not Alone (still one of his ultimate bangers) sounding so fresh while bringing back that euphoric rave sound from a decade earlier.

Trance never left, it just isn't a mainstream genre the same way as it was in the early 00's.
It's somewhat the same as when DJ Fresh brought Drum and Bass to the mainstream with Rita.
