Ellie Goulding - Higher Than Heaven

By The End Of The Night is stunning. It might wear its Blinding Lights influence on its sleeve a shade more than the other tracks released thus far, but it’s a lush soundscape and the chorus is utterly undeniable.

I say again, it’s a shame that she’s completely over this “era” already because her music hasn’t this superlative since the heady of Figure 8 and Goodness Gracious.

I wish I was hearing that lush soundscape. I do think the chorus is kinda punchy, but the production is a touch generic too. Could be more textured. I'm a slut for synthpop though and I do enjoy the song, even if it's a bit "track 8".

Just heard the studio and End of the Night and, like everything else so far, I adore. This could potentially end up being my second favourite album from her (as Bright Lights will always be number one for nostalgia reasons).

Not the other pop girls always going "this is my most personal album yet" every time they release something and Elena Jane publicly says "this is my least personal album yet"

Go girl give us nothing

Something about the way she has to downplay/criticise herself at nearly every single turn, like she can't release a few bops without hammering everyone over the head with how impersonal it is, is just so... Elena.

That’s a typical anxiety response. I know I do it. When I secured my dream job, I was constantly downplaying it and saying I probably wouldn’t be any good at it despite the fact this was literally why I went to university for.

Oh don't get me wrong, I absolutely do it too! It's just we're not actively trying to sell music and then 2 seconds later immediately going "it's quite shit though isn't it" nn

I do get where you are coming and I guess it can be annoying- but I do want to try and give her the benefit of the doubt.

I enjoy that she needs to talk down a previous album in some way or another which can be boiled down to the following:

Lights to Halcyon “I was too naive with my attitude to love and relationships and the songs were immature.”

Halcyon to Delirium “Those songs were too personal and made me depressed to sing them and I’m now doing a big pop album and write happy music that I’ll be happy to sing.”

Delirium to Brightest Blue “Those songs weren’t me, they’re cringe and I didn’t want to do them. Time for something personal and vulnerable.”

Brightest Blue to Higher Than Heaven “Absolutely don’t want anything personal here! So that’s going to make this my best album.”

I can’t wait for the next album to be a personal album.

I haven’t enjoyed any of the songs released from the album so far. When you play “Miracle” after the 4 songs released it’s such a big difference in quality.
