Ellie Goulding - Higher Than Heaven

He/Him
Surely she won’t re-sign with Polydor after the last few messy releases? Although at this stage maybe she just will and add to the mess.

Some of it is too static for me but there are some pretty great shots and incredible editing. The beige hoodie/suit lewk is a knockout, they should've done more with that setup.

I can't believe this album doesn't come out for another 2 weeks! These long drawn out campaigns are not it... and in the era of instant gratification, being drip fed four singles (five if you count Miracle - which isn't even on the physical copy) over the course of a almost a year surely has the opposite effect in terms of generating / maintaining interest? It's crazy to think the first single - Easy Lover - came out in July! I understand that in the era of streaming, post-album release singles are a thing of the past, but surely there can be another way to release albums and maintain interest? Guest featured vocals for the radio single, an oomphed up single mix - honestly, anything really? And moving release dates to minimize competition is kind of useless - especially if the singles themselves aren't doing anything chart wise? I don't know - just venting I guess.

The video is great. I love the fact that her and the dancers are all wearing couture and Calvin is standing there straight from H&M.

What’s even more bizarre is that they will release four more songs from the album next Friday, which does not make any sense especially with the drip feeding of previous four singles on Wednesdays…

Can we just bask in the glory for a second?

Three complete masterpieces. Soundtracking my entire adolescence.

I can't even really decide which one is the best.

They're all incredible and I echo what others have been saying. They should really do an entire project together.
How would you guys rank the three?

I love them all, but if I had to:
1. Outside
2. I Need Your Love
3. Miracle (just because it's still fresh)

I think Miracle is easily the best of them. The hook is so strong, production on point. Ellie is a popstar who really thrives on great production and Calvin has stepped his Hussy up a lot (within dance/house anyway) in the last decade. Outside has its appeal but I Need Your Love is pretty basic.

I want that church version of Miracle already, is just live or kind of orchestral or something?

I still give zero fucks about Miracle, and was surprised to see it’s not even included in the digital version of the album.

All the other songs released so far are great though. I’ll be checking this album out for sure. What a shame the rollout has been an absolute mess. Very much up to Polydor’s standard.

(Posted this in the Rita thread as well). Been so happy to see Ellie have success with this, but at the same time, it's been upsetting to see how obvious it is that it took being on a Calvin release to see her get on Radio 1. I've wondered whether it would've gotten the same treatment had it not been his release, or had he not been credited as an artist.

Fury at Radio One as female singers 'too old for listeners' fight for airplay

Popular singers including Rita Ora, Ellie Goulding, Katy Perry, Shakira and Pink have been snubbed by Radio One and left off the A, B and C playlists with sources claiming they are 'too old for listeners'

Radio 1 bosses have sparked a war with some of the biggest female names in pop after refusing to include their music on playlists.

Some of the stars who have had tracks left off the A, B and C rosters are Rita Ora, Ellie Goulding, Katy Perry, Shakira and Pink – who all fall outside the station’s target listener age of 15 to 29.

Industry insiders say the “discriminatory” snubs are “unacceptable”. [...]

Love Me Like You Do singer Ellie, 36, has also seen her first four singles from her new album Higher Than Heaven miss out on radio play.

It comes as Miracle, her latest collab with Calvin Harris, 39, sailed its way onto the A playlist. [...]

An industry source last night told us: “The Radio 1 senior executive team try to justify their discrimination against any female artist over 30 by attributing their behaviour to their audiences’ taste.

“In fact, the audience is far less discriminatory – that’s supported by Spotify and Apple data. For an institution like Radio 1, which holds such power in determining chart success, it’s not acceptable to have such bias.

“They’ll cite female artists they play, but many feature on male artists’ records, like Bebe Rexha and David Guetta, or Ellie Goulding and Calvin Harris.

“It’s forcing women in their 30s to feature on records they wouldn’t ordinarily do to ensure Radio 1 coverage.“

A second source says: “There’s a real storm brewing… there’s a lot of ill-feeling about this.

“It’s not impossible to have a hit without Radio 1, but there’s no denying it’s a hell of a lot harder.”
