Well Lights was what, the 5th single in the UK? Clearly someone thinks there are stronger songs on the album. Where that is true or not is down to personal opinion. I'm just saying that in my opinion at least there songs that are equal to Lights in terms of quality and could easily become singles and moderate hits.

Lights was initially held back to launch the re-release so I don't think they took so long to release it because they thought there were stronger singles. Besides maybe Starry Eyed. And it's not about which songs are the best anyway. It's about which songs have the strongest hooks and are the most radio friendly. Lights is head and shoulders above her other material except again Starry Eyed maybe but I always thought the last chorus of that being a bit of a mess hurts that song's single potential.

Only now? What on Earth, I saw her perform on David Letterman like last year. Fair play to her though.

Imagine if the next single was Starry Eyed (feat. Flo Rida).

I would love to see Animal get a release though.

This doesn't really make sense. Why would they ever make Lights an iTunes bonus track from the very beginning if they thought it was strong single material? I think it was more a case of the record company noticing the fans' positive response to Lights.

I honestly think Lights remains one of her weakest songs. The hook is really good on it, but lyrically it's some of her least outstanding. Personally I'd love if This Love came out of nowhere and smashed the US to smithereens, but that's not going to happen. Animal, Human, Starry Eyed and Under the Sheets have the best hooks and would have the best chance of being successful in the US. Wish I Stayed is her best song, but it's not got the single potential of the others. Same with I'll Hold My Breath. Also, neither or those two were even on the US release, which I guess says what they think about them for the US audience.

The perfect next single would be Starry Eyed I think. Maybe Under the Sheets.

The Wish I Stayed demo is indeed one of her best.

The album version, not so much. I think Starry Eyed, Human or Under The Sheets are her best bets. Animal possibly.

This is all getting very boring, I'm happy for her american success, but can she just get on with the next album? She's always blabbing about her new material, but nothing seems to surface

I'm all for her getting a few hits in America as long as it doesn't delay the European release of the second album. It probably will though, sad times.

Possibly true. I don't think keeping stuff off the album because it's strong single potential is that unlikely (see Little Boots putting 'Not Now' on the Illuminations EP but not the album - I'm certain that was going to launch the planned re-release) but putting it as an iTunes bonus track possibly punches a whole in my theory that the label were always planning on using Lights to launch Bright Lights.

She needs to release the flawless demo version of 'Believe Me', forgetting that vile album version ever came into existence.

I wonder how long until we get Rye Rye/Far East Movement/Natalia Kills/Colette Carr collabos? Hmm.

I find it odd how she was doing absolutely nothing on radio and then all of a sudden..took off. Wonder what changed.

#6 on iTunes and it's exploding on radio airplay too. Amazing. Between Ellie, Cher and Calvin Harris, I'm liking this UK invasion.

What the actual fuck. This actually has an amazing shot at getting to #1? Never would have I thought. She's beyond deserving though! Maybe they'll end up pushing a couple more singles in the US to keep her in the limelight til the new record comes out.

I can't wait for her second album. Her first remains one of my favourites ever. Yes, ever.

Happy for her to have some success in the US first though.

I'm so amazed she's exploded in the US. Lights was always my favourite song on the album, so I was gutted when it underperformed in the UK...I could've ever dreamed it would be her crossover hit there!

She didn't all of a sudden take off. She was gradually gaining steam for ages. It's not like she randomly went from tiny updates to 1 million+ updates in a day.

It's true. Lights represents the third slowest climb to the Top 40 by a female artist ever in the US! So it's been building up for a long time now.

I'm just really curious where they'll try to take her next in the US. I guess it depends on how long this song stays on top, which judging by the buildup, it'll be there a while. We don't have any singles from the big girls coming until Fall at least, except P!nk, but that's just one artist.

Jonathan and I talked about this before, but it'd be great if the follow-up singles did well and we finally got Bright Lights over here! I hate not having Wish I Stayed, Home, etc. They messed up the US tracklist big time.

The Queen is SMA$HING THE US of A! OH MY.

Proud is an understatement, its been a long time coming but it could be a NUMBER ONE!

Animal (2012 version) should be the next single or the debut 2nd album single, then the 2nd album can follow with 'Lights' as US Bonus Track!
