En Vogue

It pains me to put them in here, but after the love in the girlbands thread I thought they deserved their own thread.

They were (and still are) amazing. Masterpiece Theatre and Funky Divas are two of the greatest albums of all time, and nobody has come close to matching their harmonies, even as a threepiece.

Their most well known songs are My Lovin' (Never Gonna Get It) and Don't Let Go (Love). They also did Whatta Man with Salt-N-Pepa. I would definitly look up Free Your Mind on YouTube though, it's very different from anything they did, and quite a big risk for an R&B group to do a rock infused pop song in 1992! Whatever is all kinds of mid-tempo aceness, and has an amazing video. If you want to look up album tracks I'd go with Sad But True and Love U Crazay off Masterpiece Theatre.

But they are generally amazing though, and most things they've touched turn to gold, though their first album after Dawn left (EV3) was patchy at best. Except for their dreadful cover of Yesterday and the ill-advised I Want A Monster To Be My Friend. But that was for Seaseme Street, so can be forgiven.

Phew!

Finally some news from the original Funky Divas of soul:

Original members Cindy Braggs, Maxine Jones, Terry Ellis & Dawn Robinson are to perform together again on April 27th 2008 in Tobago, West Indies for the 4th Annual Plymouth Jazz Festival along with other superstars that include Shakira, Whitney Houston, Diana Ross, Rod Stewart & Smokey Robinson

At this time it is not known if Dawn is back full time or just for this one off show, or if Rhona Bennett has left the group.

There have been rumours going around the net that Dawn & the girls have been in a series of talks to try again to reunite and do an album together after attempts fell through in both 2002 & 2005 I myself although very happy am not holding my breath that Dawn is coming back for more than this one off show.

Once I find out anymore information I will post it here.

Ah no I love Max, she & Dawn have always been my favs!

Max hair thank god does no longer look like that, she has some nice braids kinda like in the Too Gone, Too Long video.

I think some of the fans from the En Vogue Craze will be going to this show so hopefully some videos will pop up on youtube.

Cindy and Terry look terrific.
I do hope something does result from this. They were amazing in their hey-day.

Can you believe that Cindy (well all of them) is in her 40's now and has had four children and she still has a body like that?

WOW the woman is perfect!

Too Gone, Too Long both the song and video is my of theirs... amazing!

I wonder if Rhona really has left the group, it would be a shame if she was ousted just because Dawn decided to come back, if I was her I would be rather peeved if that's the case!

Cindy and Terry look amazing, the other two not so much but it will be interesting to see what happens next...

I duno with Rhona, I know when she first joined the group because of the troubles with Amanda, there was an agreement that if and when Dawn was to return she would step out.

Now since Dawn did come back in 2005 and then it all went wrong again and she left, Rhona came back BUT I think that its kinda bad to treat her that way if Dawn is back on a permanent basis then she walks again, will Rhona want to come back yet again if she keeps being ousted?

Personally I think this should be the final attempt and if it fails again leave it be, cos I can't see Rhona keep being asked to step aside then come back every few years its not really fair on her or the fans.

I'm not sure Dawn IS back for good, she might be like Siobhan in Bananarama coming back for special occasions then buggering off again.

Poor Rhona hasn't had much luck has she? First her debut solo album never got released (I still haven't heard it!) and now she's treated like the third wheel in En Vogue! If you replaced someone in a job then they wanted it back you wouldn't get ousted like that! They could always be a five piece...

I have Rhona's CD... And great it is too. OK a bit too much Darkchild-na-na but even the I Want To Know What Love Is cover is fantastic.

I really do hope they stage a proper comeback.. if there was ever a group that needs to come back it's En Vogue! I'm really happy to see that they have managed to put their differences aside.
I like the EV3 thing they had going on for a bit. I LOVE "Riddle" and the video was just fucking a-mazing. One word for that video ...fierce.

I have the EV3 album on all day today... amazing. So many lost singles!

I know!!! there were so many potential hits on that CD...
"What A Difference A Day Makes" is my ultimate cheer me up song...
but "Too gone" is too good for it's own good.. I think that that song and Video has been the most underrated En Vogue single ever!

Damn I Wanna Be Your Lover was to be the 4th and final single from the album released in late December 1997, it was pushed back around 4 times with a final release date for late March 1998 before being cancelled.

It was re-recorded with all of Dawns back up vocals behind Terry's leads removed and replaced with Cindy's vocals, but it was believed that it was cancelled because Cindy fell pregnant with her 2nd Child and was too ill to do any promotional work.

It is the ONLY EV promo single I do not own and I can never find anywhere, I have several other promo singles that were remixed and what not and never released and also the original EV3 with all of Dawn's original leads still on before they were re-recorded but not that re-record which is really annoying for me, but oh well life goes on.

So Dawn really left at the last minute then?
The Mousse T / Lemon /Tommy D something remix of Whatever is magical.
