Yeah, I saw the screenshot and 110% agree with everything she said, as somebody who's been feeling similarly for the last several years (and in general, not just related to Ethel Cain).

Sincerity being seen as "cringe" has been a disaster for human interaction, and specifically when it comes to how people engage with her art, the constant jokes about Panera and ethical cain vinnel and all that bullshit were barely even funny to begin with - much less funny enough to keep running into the ground 2+ years later. Sometimes I struggle with feeling this way, because nobody likes being a gatekeeper, but things actually were so much more chill back in even 2021 with her fanbase, and I miss that. Like, the thing that most likely triggered her rant was because people were calling her newest tattoo of a fishhook a fucking tampon...come the fuck on.

She followed it up. It’s a long one, and such a great read that I relate a lot to as someone who might do “too much” about the things I enjoy. The random “Born This Way” reference at the end took me out, though dd

Eloquently put. I think this culture of attempting to be inherently irreverent and then belittling genuine, uncensored passion is honestly so toxic. It’s one of the reasons why I don’t even entertain Letterboxd reviews anymore. It’s tiring and uninspiring to read two sentences ‘witty’ review about anything. At a risk of sounding like an old man yelling at clouds, it’s crazy how this also seems to correlate with increasing lack of attention or willingness to actually… read anything, and this lack of comprehension leers its head on this forum from time to time too and it’s so jarring.

A lot of what she’s saying, in a way, reminds me of what Halsey was talking about a few months ago regarding how even her own fans treat her as a punching bag. The more that pop culture becomes “content”, the less anyone will want to earnestly engage with it. It’s bleak to witness as a consumer, I can’t imagine what it’s like to deal with as an artist.

She's just trying to trigger me at this point and it's working. "Project", "EP"...

Thank you for this brand new 90 minute album! xo
