Ethel Cain - Willoughby Tucker, I Will Always Love You (Aug 2025)

Thank god my friend got tickets in the Gigs in Scotland presale because I was away to have the biggest tantrum if I didn't manage to see her again.

She's so fucking good at making music like this my god.
Let me just join the homecoming stannage. It's an honest to God perfect song. I randomly tear up sometimes when I listen to it or, strangely, right now while writing about it. And whoever did that music video understood the assignment TERRIFYINGLY well and makes me want to believe it is the to work of a quasi Fame-era Haus of Cain art collaborative.

It reminds me of Madonna's Crazy for You in the sense of young love 80s dancefloor magic they both evoke (it's my favorite Madonna song on a purely chemical level: there are no other songs that tickle the part of my brain tickled by Crazy For You.) Homecoming is the yin to Crazy for You's yang.

This is me flashing whatever body part you want to see to erotically encourage you to click play, basically.

This post made me a tinsy bit emotional??? Also now I kind of want to make a playlist based off of Crazy for You and Homecoming with some kind of 80s prom sadcore vibe.

Kinda wish the album cover was the image that's on the tour poster of Ethel and Willoughby sat by the lake.

Are there any rumoured tracks that are set to feature on this that are on Soundcloud/Youtube? I see people mentioning Dust Bowl but wanted to tease myself a bit and see what's out there @mindtrappa @Andy French

I’ve actually avoided a lot of her unreleased/b-sides because I was waiting for this project and wanted to be surprised, so outside of “Homecoming” (which isn’t 100% confirmed to appear) I haven’t heard anything!

I think Dust Bowl and Waco, Texas are the only songs she's explicitly said will be on this so far. A couple of years back I remember her saying the same about Nettles, but she hasn't mentioned it since so who even knows.

She posted the demos for Dust Bowl and Waco in April 2022. The album version of the latter is apparently ~20 minutes long; I'm curious if the Duster sample is still on Dust Bowl - when she performed it last year it also had different lyrics.

Thank you both!!

I’m listening to my vinyl now and it’s glorious.

It genuinely feels like the definitive way to listen to the album (not to rub it in for those who couldn’t get one ddd). This is how I thought I’d feel about my Lana vinyls but most of the pressings are rancid. This is absolutely perfect. Even down to little touches like the natural pitch-bending that happens with vinyls at the start of Family Tree (Intro) being particularly haunting.

It’ll be interesting to see if Preacher’s Daughter will chart at all this week. The fact they had to push back the release date because of too much demand could be promising
