Euphoria (HBO)

I don’t disagree with any of you, and I love her, but it was still stupid as hell of her to post a photo of her dad’s Blue Lives Matter shirt. Hop on meitu and give that thing a cute little blur if that photo was so important to be included in your photo dump. These photos don’t prove she’s a Trumper or Republican or anything like that, and she doesn’t need to completely disown her family for differing political views, but … it was still stupid. She has 14 million IG followers and whether she likes it or not that is going to get a negative response. What’s surprising is that she didn’t even think about that, which in and of itself shows a privilege she clearly has.

I mean... She should disavow members of her family because they wear Blue Lives Matter shirts and parody MAGA hats. She shouldn't do it for clout or for strangers on the internet, she should do it because those people are flaunting awful "values". If she's not going to stand up for the people who are directly effected by what those symbols mean... It really just speaks a lot to her character. The fact that this didn't even phase her says a lot. If I showed up to family event and I saw those things being worn-- I would have done something far more than she did (which, was nothing.)

I don't think she deserves hate, "cancelling", getting fired, etc. etc. I think she just needs to take this as a learning experience of maybe how she should be reacting to symbols like those trash pieces of clothing.
But her blatant disregard in this situation is really gross. This isn't "wild", this isn't "absurd". God, her saying that just reeks of privilege and ignorance. Hold your own family accountable and stand up for something in a real way.

There's a lot being extrapolated from these pictures. It was someone's birthday, most people would have the 'time and place' reaction on someone else's big day. We also don't know what conversations these people have behind closed doors and if it was her friends then yes maybe I'd have a different reaction but...family is complicated. It just is and it's hard to police it Vs say how we choose our friends

I think it's a pretty interesting conversation because I'm unsure from personal experience why Sydney Sweeney gets a pass on this when others wouldn't. It's rather bizarre, especially when she isn't even a particularly politically active or outspoken person.

I'd have liked the grace she's receiving when I've made mistakes.

It was her moms birthday that she threw and chose the theme for though. If I knew my family was like that I could probably anticipate what some of them might choose to don at my cowboy rodeo themed party.

The Blue Lives Matter shirt is not up for debate but I don't really see how "Make Sixty Great Again" is any different from mocking the slogan for "Make America Gay Again" like we've seen so many times.

Not excusing any bad behavior, but she is from Spokane, Washington - like a six hour drive east of Seattle en route to Idaho where you can drive for hours and see nothing. It's not exactly a big surprise that a white, blonde all-American girl would have family with these beliefs.

Not really contributing anything new to the discussion here, just thought some insight of where she's from would be helpful. I think people are quick to forget there are tens of millions of Americans who live like this and we can't be shocked our beloved actress of the moment might have a problematic boomer grandpa.

(Doesn't mean I think she shouldn't hold him accountable or she should've posted this - just surprised to see some people on TikTok, Twitter etc shocked by this.)

You don’t have to be “politically active or outspoken” to speak out against fascist-coded movements.

What’s bizarre is when someone works in the entertainment industry, has a huge gay and young female following and they’re silent on basic rights issues affecting their fans.

That wasn't my point. I think if someone was more politically/socially active, then giving them a pass on a slip up here and there is more understandable because there would be evidence of their activism in other circumstances.

My point is that with Sydney, and I've followed her on Twitter/Instagram since White Lotus, she's not greatly outspoken and therefore this should be seen as more significant because it's the first major conversation she's broached about politics and its in defense of this.

I agree with you. So please don't speak in a condescending manner.

She/Her/Queen
After two years of avoiding spoilers and dragging to watch this show, (but knew about the Barbie drama being written off/cut + Alexia's & Cassie's bathroom scenes - the meme was every damn where) I just finished watching this in the span of 8 hours because my sleeping time is fucked, I-

This was stronger than Season 1. Skimming thru this thread I mostly agree with some takes EXCEPT for Maddy's reaction when she found out. I thought it was nuanced, especially when she asked Rue how long it was going on.

The show kept me laughing, crying, on the edge, closing my eyes, squirming - EUPHORIC indeed.

I have so much more to say and unpack but for now, let's just say that I'm OBSESSED with Faye's lips.

Can't wait to have Jacob eLORDick back on my screen in Season 3.
