I would really like to know if opening the voting from the start had any inluence on the results? See Ukraine.

‎Zaachariaha of Electric Fields was outside Euroclub at 2am after NQing smoking and chatting with fans, it was sad but super cute. They gave us a hug and posed for pictures and said "boys... take care of YOURSELVES, take care of EACH OTHER, stay SAFE, and have FUN" and spun in a circle. They were feeling no pain and I was happy to see it.

Aw how lovely. I did think at the time that if they sang the whole track Australia might have sneaked a couple of the extra points the needed to take 10th - Michael seemed absolutely terrified on the night and very shaky. But never mind.

Michael was sadly nowhere to be found at Euroclub, just Zaachariaha.

So… I never thought this was a post I’d make on here but… Is anyone else at the point of thinking that Eurovision is maybe more trouble than it’s worth anymore?

I wish I had concrete talking points to support my thesis. Some random thoughts:
• Technology has evolved so much, do we really still need this type of “global spectacle” when we can all broadcast to the entire world with the touch of a button?
• I only ever hear complaints about how much money countries put into it, I‘m not sure I’ve ever heard it was money well spent. I suppose the tourism boost is nice (albeit temporary and limited).
• Are we really United By Music? (Were we ever?)
• Overall shenanigans and chicanery *gestures vaguely at EBU*

I think this is a little reductive; for most smaller countries this is the only opportunity for artists to get the opportunity to present their artists globally. Even though social media and the internet exist, the content on Google, Facebook and Instagram is overwhelmingly generated in Anglophone countries. Just because the platforms exist doesn't mean they are just or equitable, whereas Eurovision is a captivate audience, even if it's for a week per year.

It's no wonder that the Spotify records for many of the competing countries are Eurovision songs or Eurovision-related (see: Shum, Carpe Diem). There's also a case to be made that the contest incentivises cross-boarder collaboration via songwriting camps as well as facilitating the development of legitimate new music pipelines via Festival Da Canção, Eesti Laul, etc.

To be honest, I was following along in the lead-up and it all felt like a disaster, but then when I've spoken to colleagues and friends who watched the show, none of them seemed to have noticed any drama or negativity.

I'll probably check out of the fan bubble next year because (and I'm not referring to the elephant in the room of Israel and Azerbaijan participating here where frustrations are justified), it does seem increasingly to be an echo chamber of whining and manufactured drama.

I agree with this - social media tends to amplify everything negatively. While it's undeniable there were issues, some people I know who just watched without any foreknowledge (beyond the should they/shouldn't they inclusion of Israel) and seemed to enjoy it just fine.
