Eurovision Song Contest 2011

Østrig 2011

the shining star of the austrian pre-selection process is charlee, who released ke$ha's "boy like you" last year and got her album shelved after it fared worse than was expected. now she's trying out for eurovision with the electro-rock stomper "good to be bad":

if she's in, she's deffo gonna be one of the favourites to win the whole thing.

Welcome popabottle!

I remember reading about Charlee when she released her last single. The song sounds brilliant! Hope she can do it justice live! She's up against some big local names though...

Do people know Lena is returning to represent Germany this year? It just seems... weird? She's hardly likely to win again, are Germany just not trying?

The head of the German Eurovision team said that if they do another Unser Star für... show, whoever won would likely end up being compared to Lena anyway, which might not be a good thing. And also, they say that the possibility of Germany defending its title can serve as a motivation for the other countries to send their best entries ("keep Germany from winning again!!!"). Finally, Lena says athletes like to have the chance to defend their titles, so why can't Eurovision winners?

For the trivia buffs, Johnny Logan is the only person to win twice, but not in successive years, and the first two Eurovision winners came second to last in the year following (although with much less competition of course).

Has it already been mentioned that apparently Jedward are confirmed as one of five acts in the Irish national final?

Wasn't sure it was confirmed, but if/when it is, they're more or less guaranteed a televote win in Ireland aren't they? To be honest, I'd be happy to tune in and see what they do. Bring it on.

I think this song might represent Estonia. It starts off really good, but then the hardcore eurodisco kicks in. Well, where else but Eurovision.

Nordic MGP Heat 1: seven songs and none of them worth writing home about. I know their first heat last year was their worst one, but the quality this time was far worse than that.

Icelandic Heat 1: not great either. Five songs, two of which were better than anything in the Norwegian heat. Huldumey didn't make it into the top two, so didn't qualify, but the perfectly pleasant Ástin Mín Eina did.

I don't think either heat contained anything that would make it through a Eurovision Semi-Final though, which is a pretty rough start.

I completely agree with MadeInHeaven, I watched both semis and they were pretty dreadful to say the least. Lets hope further semis from each country have a much better standard of songs to choose from. Can't bloody wait for Melodifestivalen to start!

Mimi Blix better be able to bring it live in Nordic MGP!

I would also like to thank NRK for the picture of Didrik in glasses. I'd kind of forgotten how hot in a douche-y kind of way he is.

It's horribly cheesy but for some reason I like it. I don't know why, I always support Estonia even though I've never been anywhere near it. Their entry last year was amazing, as was the woman with the violin the year before.

It has been confirmed - as has the fact that they are working with JLS songwriters on the track...

Dan Priddy (ManneQuin) was on twitter talking about Jedward's song that he worked on. I have a feeling this is going to be better than people expect.

...and then Jedward will start singing it and ruin everything.

Portugal have put up 24 songs on their website.
http://videos.sapo.pt/festivalcancao2011

12 will go through after an initial round of internet voting.

The ones worthy of mention me thinks are:

Sobrevivo by Carla Moreno ----- http://videos.sapo.pt/KYpAGLJJQtz46jzyqzZU
Tensão by Filipa Ruas ----- http://videos.sapo.pt/VBSkN1UGNsTc1oAylSEj
Esta Noite Vamos Curtir by Pop Pin's ----- http://videos.sapo.pt/birKzz8CTh1uWr3gPkZz

However i feel all might be lost as most of them are a bit ropey and as far as i can tell this is in the lead.... http://videos.sapo.pt/oE6SZHN8NklMq1ELavj0
