Eurovision Song Contest 2021

Mata Hari is a copy of Cleopatra but now when I compare the two it has a better first verse melody, those amazing Azeri lyrics, a bombastic instrumental chorus instead of the la la la chant, a similarly bonkers ending (which is only slightly less good). I think Cleopatra's advantage is being the original. Mata Hari is actually the improved song.
edit: I forgot the "straight or gay" lyric. Point for Cleopatra.

Malta seems like a winner to me but Malta has had a rough history with televoting. Their jury score is always way higher than their televoting score. Even when Destiny won JESC she still did not win the televote. For some reason Europe just won't vote for Malta.

I just checked the televote results for Malta and they are brutal.

For example Walk on water:

16 points from the televoting and 137 points from the juries.

Cameleon had double the jury votes than televotes.

They also do well in the semis but then do worse in the final.

I really don‘t know if they can win it.

I'm surprised everyone is sleeping on Romania and Lithuania recently. In terms of whole packages they seem front runners to me.

Buzzing for San Marino first top 10!

Lithuania has been chosen a while ago but I am sure it will speed up when we get closer to the contest.

I agree that Romania is beeing slept on. I hope she delivers.

Nah, Roxen is pretty mediocre and her song is bland. It benefits from being possibly one of the most commercial songs of the year, so I expect some jury hype. Her final position seems hard to predict though, I can see her reaching the top 10, but also flopping in the semis. (definitely hoping for the latter, as she is my last as of now)

Lithuania is probably because it was one of the first songs chosen. It might get some momentum again with the rehearsals. It will probably depend on the staging.

I wasn’t expecting such a backlash for putting Azerbaijan in my top 3 to win!
I don’t know, I listened to all 39 songs back-to-back for the first time (without looking at the odds because that’s not how I rate songs) and that was one of the very few instant hits for me, and altough it follows a basic formula, it is a pleasant guilty pleasure and... a bop! I’ve been listening to it a lot since then.

Malta on the other hand, I don’t get the hype. It has no chorus, except the title behind repeated over a sax instrumental... and sax chorus sounds very 2010 to me. But I guess the odds hype will push it into the top 5 in the finale.

I don't think Walk On Water or Chameleon deserved to do much better than that personally.

And considering we've had countries like Portugal and Austria winning in recent years, there's no reason why a country that doesn't usually do that well can't zoom all the way to the top with the right song.

Some general comments:

I'm just not getting what everyone else is getting with France. It never gets out of first gear for me. I'm hoping it'll click at some point because I normally like France's entries.

Loco Loco has hit me out of nowhere today. Bop. Might even be in my top 5 now.

Omaga seems to have completely flown under the radar. I could totally see this charting here if it was a British song.

I hated 'Release Me' but love 'The Wrong Place'

Some nice observations there. I couldn’t agree more about France, I just find the singer’s voice very irritating.
Czech Republic is very charming and radio friendly.
And Serbia is just a balls to the wall fun bop!

This masterpiece is currently my #3 (#2 being Moldova and #1 Italy).

AND it's hit #1 on the Danish Singles Chart. First time since Only Teardrops.
